[Pricing] NEED your advice on RATES for 1 Gbps double play two phone lines

$

I'm about to commit to migrate from copper POTS to FIOS and need your negotiating advice to get best possible rates from Vz for the longest period. I'm in NYC, upper west side, Manhattan, zip 10023. My current CO (for POTS - DSL) is West 73rd Street What we have now: Three Vz copper POTS phone lines with three different accounts, all in the snobby 212 area code. Two are mine in my name, of which one has our current DSL (7Mbps down, 786kbps up). The third is my wife's in her name and is very important for her business. What we want: FIOS @ 1Gbps with lowest possible ping and buffer bloat, with "Double-play" for internet and phone. - We're not so interested in TV and we'll get TV later from "cut the cord" internet, like Netflicks?? (We don't know anything about TV - haven't had a TV or video recorder in almost 16 years.) - Important detail: We will keep only two of our three 212 POTS telephone numbers in the FIOS - one of mine (the one that has the DSL now), and my wife's. We'll drop our third line (or I'll migrate it first to GoogleVoice or something.) --- Vz says the second phone line in the FIOS as FDV costs an extra $9.99/month on the double-play bill plus fees and taxes. --- Vz says that we can keep our two old 212 tel numbers in the FIOS as FDV but cannot keep the two separate names on the numbers. When we call out, the recipient's caller ID must see the same name on both numbers. (UNLESS we pay a LOT more money for a truly separate account.) That's a minor problem. Worst case, they'll both show my wife's name on outgoing calls for business purposes. ---- VZ says keeping my wife's tel number unpublished costs $5 more per month + fees and taxes. That's annoying. - So far, VZ says it will NOT hit us with ANY equipment charges or installation/initiation/upfront anything fees. Vz says it will supply the WiFi router ("Galaxy"?) without extra charge. Possibly because I'm coming from DSL - not sure. ---- What ONT and router should I ask for? ►SO THIS IS VZ's CURRENT QUOTE TO ME - HOW CAN I MAKE IT LOWER? G3100 and Moca 2.5

Hi Everyone. I have a MOCA 2.5 question and hopefully you can help clarify. I had the previous Gen Verizon router setup with two Moca adapters on 2nd floor of my home to extend Ethernet connection. The Actiontec Bonded 2.0 adapters. Yesterday I upgraded to the new 3100 router and installed it. I hear this has Moca 2.5. Should I update my bonded Moca adapters to 2.5? What improvements will I see if I do so? Thanks for your input

[Pricing] $5/mo "connections" discount ends for isp only customers?

i'm reading anecdotes on slickdeals where they discuss new sign up's to fios that govn/corp employees who qualified for the $5/mo referral email discount when signing up for new service, will no longer be able to apply it for internet only, it will only work for 2-3 plays - anyone here have the inside skinny on this issue? i assume existing customers may still get the $5 off, but who cares if they jack up your "loyal customer" rate by $20/mo after the first year or two... :uhh:

FIOS in Condo Complex Need Some Insight

BACKGROUND: Looking to purchase my first Condo in the next 2 months after living in single family homes since 1985. Got involved with home networking in the 90s thru present day. My current home is wired by Frontier FIOS and I run all Ubiquiti Equipment throughout. When my wife and I took our walk through of the property I want to purchase, all rooms had Coax jacks but when I went looking for the main box within the residence none could be found. I spent last night via Verizon Chat talking with a Verizon Tech. I asked for specifics about the building complex where I have a bid for my new home and he provided me this: My 4-floor complex which was built in 2003, has a central maintenance room on the first floor where there is a "Telephone Closet" that has the Security, Phone and Internet infrastructure. Only accessible by approved personnel. The Verizon Tech told me that the main feed from the outside is fed to a managed switch then coax is run to each residence where I assume a splitter branches to all of the coax jacks within the residence. He further went on to confirm each residence has their own port on the switch with their own IP assigned via VLAN. While I could not get any other technical information at the granularity I would have liked, I was a little less concerned. However, one point sticks out which has caused me to ask this question of the Forum 'smart guys and gals' here... IF coax is coming from the switch to all residences 1. Can FIOS offer Gig Speed? I thought only Ethernet could. 2. I know of MOCA Adapters (which I'll need for the residence so I can run Ethernet in the house) but how will that affect bandwidth and latency? On top of that, what MOCA Adapters would you recommend? 3. Because I do not have control of the main switch, what do I need to be concerned/worried about regarding QoS? Lastly, I will be running Ubiquiti gear within the residence. Appreciate any wisdom and insight.

[Router] G3100, E3200 and WCB6200?

So, to extend my Gig service to my current extender (WCB6200Q) via Moca, I'm considering picking up the new G3200 router. I'm also considering getting the E3200 to put where my WCB6200Q is located. If I do that, and put the WCB6200 in another room to extend the network there, will I get Gig speeds to the WCB6200 (or what ever the bonded 2.0 will give me)? Anyone try this yet? Moca adapters with the Fios One TV service did not work in my set up to extend the Gig Service to the extender, but I'm still looking to make that happen. THanks! Jim

HORRAY! 2/19 Install. Router Question.

Okay, so after years of waiting and watching the orange cable go in and waiting lots more, I'm the first one in my neighborhood to sign up for FiOS (had it for year in my old neighborhood). Got a great price for More TV and Gig internet ($156 a month all in with discounts which is $1 a month more than our Comcast bill which was about to go up $26 in a month or so). Anyway, I'm now wondering about the router. I have a Netgear P7000 that I like that runs DDWRT, but this setup comes free with their non-ActionTec router (which I think is a good thing). Is this router decent or is it junk like the ActionTec was? Am I better off with my Netgear and is that even an option or is it still like it was the last time I was a customer and the router also provides On Demand and Guide data, etc?

[Router] Help troubleshooting G1100 primary with MI242WR as access point

I have a G1100 as my primary router in an upstairs bedroom. I'd like to connect my old Actiontec MI424WR (rev. I) router to get a stronger wifi signal on my first floor, but I'm struggling to get the set-up right. Right now, when I turn the Actiontec on, I maintain my wifi connection but lose internet. I primarily followed advice found here: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28447797-Re-purpose-an-Actiontec-MI424WR-into-wireless-access-point One thing that doesn't look right to me is my G1100 is showing a network connection type of "Bridge" (screenshot below). I'm not sure why or if that's the culprit. I'd appreciate any advice! Current configuration is: CAT5 connection to G1100 on 2nd floor * 192.168.1.1 * DNS pool begins 192.168.1.4 * Wireless channel: 1 CAT5 connection to Actiontec on 1st floor * 192.168.1.3 * DHCP disabled * SSID & WEP2 password same as G1100 * Wireless channel: 3

E3200 with G3100 or AmplifiHD setup?

$

I had been living with 75/75 FIOS internet-only, using the G1100 and the compatible FIOS Network Extender. But life was not good: slow & spotty coverage in our 4 floor, ~2800 sq ft house. It was built in 1932 with plaster on chicken wire walls plus some brick thrown in for good measure. Practically a faraday cage. So my plan was to upgrade FIOS for better speed and, for better coverage, use three Amplifi HDs, with wired backhaul over MOCA 2.5 using the four goCoax adapters I already have. Basically an implementation of the old saw that the ISP's router is the weak option and best replaced after install. So Gig was installed yesterday - not the smoothest install, and they managed to take away the G1100 that was mine (I purchased it). But Gig is up and running, so I now have the speed. Plus, I am impressed by throughput speed & coverage of the G3100, at least when I am on the same floor as the router. So, should I change my plan? FIOS has the new E3200 FIOS Home Wi-Fi Extender to match the G3100 (https://www.verizon.com/home/accessories/media/images-accessories/productPDF/083019%2010989_VER_E3200_WFE_DATASHEET_v1r7.pdf). I'm not technical enough to truly make the comparison, but I do see that the G3100 & E3200 are both WiFi 6 devices and the Amplifi HD is not. Basically, I need help. The upgrade is so much better than what we had before. But that doesn't mean the Amplifi HD setup won't be an even better option for distributing wifi around the house. I'm really not sure what I gain or lose in contemplating these two options.

[Router] G 3100 Router Or Gateway Quantum

Hello All. Well, my contract ended. I'm now paying $12.00 a month for the gateway quantum router. It was free for the last 2 years. My question is should I upgrade to the 3100 for $3.00 more a month? Is it better than the Quantum router? I have 100/100 service. My quantum is getting me 55/50 wireless service on my second floor.

Well the original section is locked so I decide to open another one. I know NetworkGuy created the original so thank you my friend. Well I finally seeing the installation of the conduits for the fiber installation inside my building and the tech are working late hours . Sometimes they stop by 9:30 pm. If things progress this way they might finish by next Monday. I'm so ready to take all my cablevision gear to them

WNY Copper Retirement Notice and question

$

I see Verizon has posted a notice of Copper Retirement dated September 9, 2019 for most of the remaining wire centers in Western NY. Implementation Date: On or after September 16, 2020 Planned Network Change(s) will occur at all remaining locations in the following wire centers in New York Description of the planned network change(s): Verizon intends to retire the copper facilities at all remaining locations in the one hundred eleven (111) wire centers listed above. Verizon has deployed or plans to deploy its fiber-to-the-premises network in these areas and intends to provide services over a fiber network infrastructure. Updating our network from copper to fiber benefits our customers because of fiber’s resiliency and reliability, especially in inclement weather. Fiber also provides our customers with expanded capabilities to grow with current bandwidth demands for their home or business. Description of reasonably foreseeable impact(s) of the planned change(s): After the retirement of the copper facilities, Verizon will: (1) no longer offer services over copper facilities; and (2) cease maintaining the copper facilities. To help ensure an orderly transition, Verizon may require customers and interconnecting entities to migrate services off of copper facilities well before the copper retirement implementation date. I am trying to understand what that means. In some of the previous Copper Retirement notices it listed specific addresses that would be converted over to fiber-to-the-premises. This one lists "all remaining locations in the wire center." Does that mean the rest of the customers being served out of that wire center will be converted over to F-T-T-P? I am asking because my father has DSL and copper phone out of one of the wire centers with copper being retired. In asking Verizon through Verizon Direct, they have been vague by saying if he received a communication from Verizon then he will be converted over to FIOS or if fiber is going to be offered at his location then eventually it will be converted. I am sure that the entire footprint of the wire center will not necessarily receive F-T-T-P, but I would assume the current Verizon customers that have copper services coming out of those offices will be converted over to fiber. That is how I am understanding it. Does anyone know if that is correct? In other words, if someone has copper services coming out of one of the wire centers that is retiring copper, does Verizon have to convert you over to fiber? They can't just cancel the service and shut it off without offering something else, can they?

Gigabit connection with non-Verizon Router (Ubiquiti 3P)

I recently upgraded to a gigabit connection and ordered the Verizon router (not sure which it was supposed to be.) The technician was supposed to deliver the router when he performed the upgrade. When the tech arrived, he updated the ONT and ran an ethernet line to where I keep my data equipment. He noticed told my wife that we didn't need the verizon router that we could just plug directly into my switch since it was already gigabit. HE said if I wanted I could get any GIgabit router. He left my original FIOS router so I could get guide data for my single STB. So I ordered a Ubiquitu USG since I already use UniFi. I received it today and cannot get more than 100MB. Tech support determined that it was the lack of Verizon router and won't troubleshoot without one. They tried rebooting the ONT and nothing. The tech told us not to get the verizon Router and left without installing one. Now i'm paying for a router, shipping, and I have to wait until whenever it arrives to test it. Is this BS? I see many threads here where people use third party routers regularly.

[Networking] IPv6 working!

I noticed that my Quantum router got an upgrade recently, and now allows IPv6. I was (finally!!) able to get it to work. I logged into the router administration and turned on IPv6. At this time, I have to set the DNS on my Mac to Google's or CloudFlare's DNS servers to make everything work, since I think Verizon's default DNS servers for FiOS aren't completely ready yet. But when I log onto my router (at 192.168.1.1), it shows public IP addresses of BOTH IPv4 and IPv6 now. I pass all the tests at ipv6-test.com and test.ipv6.com except having a reverse DNS name. I can reach ipv6 only sites. Finally, no Hurricane Electric tunnel needed. When I have a chance, I'll check to ensure this doesn't mess up Netflix or HBO NOW.

G3100 Limits on Static Leases?

Hello all, I've been using the G1100 for quite some time now. I have used dozens of Static Leases in my home network with no issues. Upgraded to the G3100 today, and noticed I cannot create more than 10 Static Leases in DHCP. Before I call support, I'm curious if anyone else has seen this issue, or if there is a know workaround, or I should return the G3100. G3100 - Firmware G.1.3.6.27. HW Version 1102. Thanks.

Upgraded from 100 to 200Mbps, unable to get above 100Mpbs

Looking for ideas, no matter how crazy they may be. I'll try to keep this short. GPON ONT -> Motorola MR2600 AC Router -> Home Network (3 Win10 PCs and various wireless) I verified the RJ45 from ONT to the wall jack is Cat5e. Replaced Cat5 between plate and router with Cat5e. 3 different RJ45 connected computers (Win10) on the router report a 1Gbps connection in their status window. However, every speed test I run returns back 100Mbps or less for both upload and download. I tried replacing cables and swapped in a reset G1100 router but each test still comes back as 100Mbps. Plugging the computer directly into the wall jack gets me speeds over 200Mbps. (Placed router back in place) For grins, I disabled Ethernet and enabled Wifi (5ghz, Wifi5/ac) and my speed tests ramped up over 200Mbps. Exactly opposite of what I didn't expect. I had opened a Verizon direct ticket but with these kinds of speed test over wireless, it's apparent the ONT is properly provisioned. I get nearly similar speed tests on verizon's site, speakeasy.net and speedof.me. There is obviously something weird going on here. 2 different routers with the same behavior. If anyone has some ideas for additional troubleshooting, I'm all ears. I'm at wits end at the moment because this just doesn't make sense.

[ONT] Newest FIOS ONT models?

I'm a long time FIOS customer and recently had to have my ONT replaced. Is there a list somewhere to see what are the newest models? The one the tech installed today is half the size of my old one, and I cannot see where there is a backup battery. The tech was super fast and left before I could even ask him any questions. I have FIOS Gigabit if that makes any difference.

[Billing] Does FiOS pro-rate the service?

I just canceled FiOS service (out of billing frustration) and the lady I talked to mentioned that the bill is not pro-rated. I still have 14 days on the service so I was expecting to get some of the remainder back. I just wanted to confirm that it is correct and there is no way to get my ~$25 back. Thanks in advance.

Confused by device terminology on the order page.

My large apartment building in Brooklyn finally had fios activated and I've been getting their promo letters. I'm considering ordering only the internet service(not TV or phone) however I'm confused by the wording when it comes to the router/device selection section. It's either rental for $15/month, purchase for $300, or use my own. When I select use my own I get the attached popup message. It talks about routers and gateways almost interchangeably. In this context, are they the same thing? I have a decent Asus router I'm happy with and I would like to keep using and would prefer not to buy a new fios-specific device. As a background, on every floor stairwell in my building there's a VZ lockbox with a conduit pipe into the lobby. What kind of connection would VZ run into my apartment? Is it going to be actual fiber or coax or straight up ethernet? What kind of hardware would VZ provide and I need to have?

[Networking] FiOS ONT & G3100 Networking Assistance w/ a MoCA Adapter and TiVos

House is 18 years old, long cable runs to rooms on 3 floors, cannot confirm if they are Cat 6. Used to be a DirecTV customer. Here's how the ONT is connected to the G3100: ONT in the basement receiving FiOS from the street. G3100 on first floor far away from my STBs (TiVo Roamio Pro, Roamio Plus and 7 minis) Ethernet WAN line from ONT to G3100 on first floor Please critique this proposed set-up. Basement coax from ONT to a POE filter and 2 port Verizon splitter (1675 MHz rated) Split 1: TiVo MoCA 2.0 Adapter (black) with separate input output coax connections and one ethernet port. MoCA adapter coax "input" takes coax line from the splitter and connects to the G3100 via the adapter's coax output line to the G3100 Coax WAN/LAN port. MoCA adapter's ethernet line connected to one of the 4 LAN ethernet ports on the G3100 (yes it's a long separate ethernet cord). Split 2: The using 1675 MHz-rated splitters to connect the rest of the coax cables that connect the all of my TiVos in my house to the coax output from the ONT I used to use the Roamio Pro and Roamio Plus to be a MoCA "Bridge" to the TiVo minis with the TiVo minis being a Client. Set up the TiVo Roamio Pro and Plus as a "Client" (and no longer a "Bridge") to the new MoCA network hopefully created by the MoCA 2.0 Adapter's connections to the G3100. Any problems with the proposed set-up? Finally, in a 3rd floor room far away from the G3100, use a TiVo MoCA bridge (white) (only one Coax input port) from the coax cable line to that room to connect a gaming device directly to the ethernet port on the Bridge that hopefully recognizes the new MoCA network created by the Adapter in my basement and provides a fast connection. I plan to use a splitter to connect the coax to the TiVo mini there.
