Port 80 forwarding for Let's Encrypt SSL?

I'm trying to configure a NAS with DDNS service and Let's Encrypt SSL certificate which I've obtained through the NAS system, which didn't require configuring key files, etc. I've been told Let's Encrypt auto renews over the internet every 90 days over port 80. Would forwarding port 80 be an issue with Verizon when renewing the certificate? I remember reading something about Verizon blocking port 80 for home users.

How long before Fios actually gets here?

I currently have Fios at home and Spectrum at work. I live in Yonkers and work in Manhattan. Verizon ran fiber to the building at work around the beginning of this year. A couple of months ago, the landlord had us move some stuff in the basement because Verizon needed the space. I have been checking for Fios availability since the beginning of this year, about once a month. I checked today and the website stated “Fios is coming!” About how long does it normally take for Fios to be available once you get this message? I would call customer service, but they probably have no clue. Thanks for any help and have a nice day.

50/50 speed tier

I know that you can use the 50/50 with 1-3 devices at a time, but is there a limit to the number of devices in the home using the 50/50 speed tier? as in other mobile devices from a friend or family member connected to the home network?

How to convince Verizon packet loss isn't my problem?

$

I have severe, recurring packet loss and "dead zones" in my connection (where I get 100% packet loss for 3-10 seconds at a time) that started cropping up a few weeks ago. I have a continuous line quality monitor enabled via a program called PingPlotter, and the results are unimpressive: I get about 21% packet loss on average to Canada. Pings and download speeds are great, which tells me it's a problem with intermittent line quality issues. It's not my modem or my computer, because swapping out my modem for a Netgear Nighthawk X10 doesn't fix the problem. Similarly, it's not my computer, because switching from WiFi to Ethernet doesn't help at all. Having 3-10 second dead zones several times an hour (like, every 2-5 minutes or so) is absolutely devastating for VoIP, streaming, and gaming. The service is effectively worse than my ~8 Mbps AT&T LTE hotspot, which at least has a reliable connection, but only costs $20/month. However, Verizon keeps going back to my modem and my computer. The problem is with neither. It COULD be my ONT, which is a separate Nokia box on the outside of my house, but it's definitely not the computer or Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100. How can I convince them to come look at the cabling, ONT, etc. and resolve the problem?

Verizon Fios Gigabit Speeds are way below normal? 350mbps-400mbps

I live in Maryland and was excited to finally be able to order the gigabit speeds from fios. Going from 150/150mbps to 940/880mbps is a huge leap. I ordered and finally got the service installed. I only am getting 350-400mbps and that is peak 350-400mbps (sustained is around 300mbps). I called up Verizon with the issue, and they had a tech come out to investigate, according to the tech, this is the best this area will get (Towson/Cockeysville)with the current system. (From the central office to my home might be the problem?). He said that technically the lines can support the proper gigabit speeds, but the central office isn't supplying enough bandwidth to be able to support these speeds. The in-person tech replaced the ONT for good measure, but results are the same from various speed tests. Later with different tech support person on the phone, I was told that in order to raise the support ticket higher, I have to speed test with the Verizon gateway. I responded that I tried it with the same lower speed results when the in person tech support employee came to my house (with a router he had in his truck). This tech thinks that the type of router shouldn't affect the speeds but according to his support team, the Verizon router has some kind of special sauce in it to achieve the gigabit speeds. (tech told me he thinks it doesn't work like that) So I am paying for gigabit but only getting at best 400mbps and the Verizon in person tech is just saying deal with it, that is the way it is here. The tech says I am provisioned for gigabit speed as well. I am missing 65% of the speeds promised by the service and paying full price. What can I do to fix this situation and is anyone having this same issue? Is this router really the problem, or is Verizon making stuff up. (Direct connection to the ONT reflects the same results) Note: I have tried speed tests via an Asus 3100ac router, Verizon gateway router, a computer connected directly to the ONT via ethernet (cat6 cable), and all were hardwired. The wire into the house is cat5e. All of these result in the speeds above. Speed tests include speedtest.net, dslreports, and google fiber speed test. Results are all the same. I also have access to a 10gbps server and it can max out gigabit connections, which I used at a local college to that effect. Verizon service can only download a max of 50MBps and tops out.

[ONT] my evidence only 1gig subs get provisioned well ?

i'm monitoring 3 ip's over the weekend (geolocation). my current 50:50 public ip (Rego Park) one i had a month ago (Forest Hills) one i had two months ago. (New Rochelle) notice the dramatic difference with the middle one :o my guess is that me and the bottom guy are 50:50 while the middle guy is a 1gig subscriber. i'm 7ms 2nd hop avg latency over my 2000' 2yo pon (my best to worst latency is 0-60 = indicating congestion) while a 1gig neighbor is 0ms latency on that ONT-OLT hop. the only explanation i can come up with is verizon herds all none 1gig subs on to congested pons and reserves the rest for the 1gig subs (and cell sites). maybe they have not actually upgraded their system at all, just created a first class and coach class pon segregation. and simply expanded the use of formally dark fiber strands. if you are thinking, well maybe the middle guy is an office that's closed over the weekend, consider that the top and bottom residential guys are sleeping at night, and their ping didn't calm down at all. this may also explain why it's so insanely expensive for existing 50:50's to upgrade to 1gig - it's because they have to dispatch a premise/area tech to physically move your strand cross connect to a different "first class" pon.

Gigabit from ONT directly to Moca router

Hey gang, So I’ve got an extremely old house that’s be a nightmare to run Ethernet through. However, it already has a ton of coax on existing moca 2.0 splitters. I understand that the Quantum Router only supports moca 1.1 So what’s the best router to use if I want the bonded 2.0 moca and pipe that sweet, sweet gigabit through the existing coax?

I recently installed the FiOS Network Extender and it works well. I just noticed that the remote control feature on the Android FiOS Mobile app not longer works. I cannot connect to any of my STBs from any wireless device. I can view all the "Watch Now" channels, but no remote control capabilities. Any ideas? TIA

I am currently on a FIOS Triple Play bundle. I have a legacy landline that I would like to port (keeping the telephone number) to FIOS and eventually making the primary number for the bundle (dropping my current FIOS line). Is this something that has to be one in steps? Will I be able to use the new line as the primary in the bundle? Has anyone done this?

Fios Gigabit over cat5 (not cat5e)

Hello, Need some advice regarding option to upgrade to Verizon gigabit service. I currently have Verizon Fios 75/75. My house is hardwired with cat5 (not cat5e). I understand it is expensive to run new ethernet cables so If I don't upgrade my cat5 will gigabit service just be a waste of money? I have tried to research the subject and I'm getting conflicting answers. Some say that Cat5 can work over shorter runs for near gigabit speeds even though it is not rated for such. Is wifi a possible alternative if cat5 is limiting. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!

[Pricing] Upgrading to Gig internet

I'm currently paying $211/month for Ultimate TV, phone, 75/75 internet. Today I was offered the 1G speed for $243 or so, after taxes etc. I'm getting about $52/month discounts now. I have 4 STB's with multiroom DVR, 6 recordings simultaneously option. I forget the name. My contract is up in a year and my current price will go up two more times before that. If I opt for this new offer, it will be for one or two years. My choice. Also, the $150 install fee will be reduced to $75. They have to install a new ont. I already have the fiber cable ran where they need to be. They are using coax right now.The CS rep will call me back in 2 days to check if I want to do the deal. This is my question. I have a little doubt that they will honor this deal for 24 months. Is there any way I can tell the representative to email me a contract of the price list of the offer? From previous experience with Verizon, I would like something concrete to view before I have billing mistakes that will be almost impossible to correct after the fact. Also, how does that deal look? Thanks for reading.

Caller ID Display on TV Lost in Upgrade to "Verizon Digital Voice"

A couple of months back, our Fios Internet service went down (TV and phone were working fine). Verizon repair tech came out and told me my ONT was "too old" and he would replace it. No charge. In the process, he also told me he had to "upgrade" us to "Verizon Digital Voice" phone service, too. Also, no charge. Well, OK, I guess... There were a number of billing and other issues with the switch, but they all got eventually resolved, with one exception. We've lost the Caller ID display we used to get on our TV screen when calls come in. I went through the debug process using my Verizon remote, and the result was an onscreen message that said our set top boxes are "not compatible" with Caller ID display. As stated, the tech replaced only the ONT, and not the set top boxes. So, the same set top boxes that were giving us Caller ID display before now don't. Anyone know of a fix for this, or do I need to get new set top boxes?

[ONT] Arris ONT14842-VZ - Extra Ethernet jacks act as a switch?

The company I work for has the Arris model ONT14842-VZ installed for our FiOS connection. We also have a block of 5 static IPs. We'd like to be able to connect other routers/firewalls for projects and tests. Can the other three Ethernet ports be bridged to the existing Ethernet 1 jack? I'd prefer not to have to put in a small 5-port switch.

[Pricing] Verizon FiOS Internet Only What are you paying ??

I have Verizon FiOS only (no phone no TV service). I have had them for about 17 years… Verizon is trying to raise my bill by $31.00/month! I am 66 and living on a fixed, limited income. How do I find out what others pay for this and how to negotiate this to a better price? I am in Bethesda MD 20814. The secrecy that surrounds Verizon Internet billing is a really bad thing. Thanks

"PUBLIC NOTICE OF COPPER RETIREMENT" Question

$

I was looking at Verizon's copper retirement page and saw my town is on the list. I also saw a new box on a pole but was wondering when I should expect FIOS. When it says "Implementation Date: On or after August 23, 2018" on the notice, does that mean I should expect FIOS after that date or they will stop serving the copper network after that date? Just thinking about getting FIOS is great because of my cable company charging an arm and a leg for service and the picture quality isn't that great. Also I will post the link of the notice below. http://www.verizon.com/about/sites/default/files/Copper-Retirement-ID%20-No-2017-03-A-NJ.pdf

[ONT] ONT models & Ethernet port questions

$

Additional questions that I haven't had answered elsewhere; 1. What are the current (within the past 6 months) model numbers of the ONT's that Verizon's is installing? (I realize different markets may have different models) 2. Do they all have battery backup and can they be installed without that? (areas that power outages are very rarely a problem) 3. Using only the Ethernet port for WAN, when you connect your (non MoCA) Router, how does it show in the Routers status menu? Does it have a IP address like a conventional Cable Modem has? 4. Disconnecting or re-booting your Router, is there any issue getting WAN connectivity back? 5. Lastly, has anyone took a Kill-A-Watt (or equivalent) meter and measured the current draw of these ONT's? Thanks in advance.

[FiOS Phone] Where does dial tone come from?

$

I have Fios phone and internet. If I have dial tone on the phone, does that mean the fiber connection to the central office is working, or am I just getting a dial tone from the ONT? I know I could try making a phone call, but I want to know if the presence of dial tone can serve as a quicker confirmation that the fiber connection is up. I'm thinking of a situation where I have an internet connection problem and I want to know if it's just the internet, or if my Fios service is down completely.
