-------------
AS OF 7/13 THIS APPEARS TO BE DEAD! We have some reports of it working using an additional small trick, but this can't be confirmed by people have actually already done the trick. I have included the small differences needed to get this new method to work, but note that I can't actually test it myself and it is a huge YMMV. Otherwise, I have kept the post as essentially the same as it was when the OG move trick worked, before 7/13.
-------------
A lot of people are asking about how to do the move trick in order to access new customer pricing for GigE provisioning. I'm seeing a lot of the same questions asked over and over, probably because they don't want to scour the main Gigabit thread, which is now over 90 pages long. In order to avoid repeating myself and so that there is a convenient resource for people trying to do this, here's a bit of an explanation of what this trick consists of, plus some instructions that more or less follow how I went through with it.
Basically, in order to accommodate customers who are moving locations, Verizon has a web interface that allows them to put in move orders. Ideally, when a move order is done, a customer is let out of their contract without having to pay an ETF, and gets access to new customer pricing. (This is true most of the time; see caveats in the 'some things to watch out for' section below.) You will otherwise retain the same login information and account number, and the account will be under your name, not that of a spouse or other member of your household. You can even keep your phone number, if you manipulate the web form properly (YMMV).
So. The 'exploit' here is that the web form allows you to move services to any address that the system recognizes as a valid install location for FiOS, including your own. So, when you put in your current service address as the place you're moving to, while it detects that *someone* already has service at that address, it doesn't know that that person is you. Maybe this is because of privacy laws. Maybe this is because of lazy validation procedures. Regardless, as of now - notwithstanding one report to the contrary, from one Redditor several weeks ago, which appears to be the only one so far - the move trick still works. Here's how it goes:
First, make sure you're logged in at the Verizon site. (If you're not logged in, the page will have a dropdown asking if you want to move or if you just want to change the services at your current address - make sure you leave the dropdown on 'Move service to new address.')
Then go here:
https://www.verizon.com/ForyourHome/GoFlow/OrderMove/MovesOrderWelcomeSignin.aspx
Legacy way:
Enter your current address, and submit. It will detect that someone (again, not you) has service there already, and will give you two radio-button options. Choose the one that says 'I want to set up new services. The current resident is moving out.'
New YMMV way:
Enter your address, and make sure to uncheck the 'remember my address' box before submitting. The UI will detect that you are attempting to do a same address move, and redirect you to the regular order page. Once there, press back (you may need to press more than once, to avoid simply being sent back to the regular order page). Enter your current address again. It will detect that someone (again, not you) has service there already, and will give you two radio-button options. Choose the one that says 'I want to set up new services. The current resident is moving out', and submit. If it works, you'll be redirected to a page with new customer pricing that retains all your current account data, as described below. If it doesn't work, you'll be redirected to the regular new customer order page - which has a different design than the legacy MyVerizon order page - and, if you continue with your order, will find that you'll actually be signing up with them under a brand new account, and are not doing the 'move trick' at all.
If you're successful, you'll now have a config page. If you have regular FiOS TV boxes then you'll need Verizon's G1100 Quantum router - if you already have it then hopefully it'll detect this though. When I went through the config page, it initially provided the option to use a 'Customer-provided router'. If you refresh the page before submitting, however, some validation occurs and the system realizes that a customer-provided router is incompatible with ordering their TV equipment. Generally, they do not allow you to choose CableCARDs on this sign up form - though we have one report of a customer who managed to retain CableCARDs on his account without having to call in - so as a result, choosing their router should be for the most part unavoidable on this form. You can call them up and ask them to take the router off or sign-up for CableCARDs later. Note that if you already have a G1100, whether you bought it or are renting, the move page may not detect that, and you may have to call in and remove it from the order in that case as well.
Legacy way:
If you have a phone number that you'd like to keep, then when you're dealing with the phone section, make sure you *skip* the first line of configuration there, and go straight to the sections about directory listings and battery backup:
[att=1]
If you do this, the web interface will allow you to keep your current number (removed my number from the screenshot):
[att=2]
Otherwise it *will* assign you a new number. Moreover, even this is YMMV - we have at least one report below of the web form not being compliant. But it's worth a try, and I encourage anybody trying this out to post their experience here.
New YMMV Way:
The above doesn't work with the YMMV back-button method. You have to call or chat and explain that you're doing a move within the same zip-code, at which point, keeping your old number should be approved.
Other than this there isn't anything very important to say about this configuration - how many set-top boxes you need, whether you want DVR, how many channels you'd like etc etc etc is your choice.
After going through this, on the next page they'll want some address info, and to set a date for installation and disconnection. You can set this to be the same date, for minimal downtime (I was down for only 12 hours, and other people were down for less). That's the entire process.
Some things to watch out for/other thoughts:
Note that while the website, emails etc say they want proof of ownership or a rental agreement or whatever, this doesn't actually matter. While I did call them up in order to confirm that I kept my number, to add CableCARDs, and to remove the Quantum DVR and Quantum router from the order, at no point was I asked to provide proof of ownership or lease at the new address. You may also receive a warning email about your account upcoming disconnection. This is normal and of no consequence. You can safely disregard it as well.
If you go this route, you typically have to return your current TV equipment to Verizon. Your tech will bring and install new boxes. However, we have had one report of someone whose tech merely reactivated the boxes that were already at that location, and just took the new boxes he brought with him back; see here. Still, it's probably best going into the plan on the assumption that you will not be keeping your old hardware.
We have a report from one customer, who already had a GPON ONT, and was doing a same-day disconnect-and-move, that needed to call in to re-provision their internet over Ethernet, rather than Coax (as stupid as that sounds). This could be a possibility, but sounds like a minor nuisance, all told. Similar reports of some delay re-provisioning internet on installation day for those with GPON ONTs have also been described elsewhere in the thread though - best be prepared to call them in case this happens.
Similar to the last bullet point, we also have a couple of reports (#1, #2) of video not being provisioned properly after a move order - IOW video doesn't work at all/is not being output by the ONT, regardless of what video equipment you're using - for people who already have GPON ONTs. Nothing to do about this except call in and get them to do so. While they should be able to enable it remotely, sometimes they'll feel the need to do a truck roll anyway.
We have had a couple of reports (#1, #2) of Verizon attempting to charge an ETF on the first bill with Gigabit on it. While this is hardly a universal occurrence, it remains a possibility. If this does happen to you, stand firm - the second customer at least managed to get credited.
At least one customer got access to new customer pricing without having to sign up for a new contract; unclear how though. Another one also reportedly managed to negotiate pricing within $5 of the customer price. YMMV.
Even though I managed to get the CSR to remove the Quantum Router from my order (as I was using CableCARDs, for which their router/MoCA support isn't necessary), the tech who came out insisted on giving me one. Despite this, Verizon never charged me for it (I'm not using it ATM). So, I guess that's a YMMV way to get a free router...
If you are dealing with CableCARDs - keep in mind that the best way to activate them is via the automated CableCARD hotline at 1-888-897-7499. You may need to hit the cards again and reboot your CableCARD host (iow your TiVo, HDHomeRun, InfiniTV or whatever you have) so that they complete both activation and validation - this gets DRM'd channels to work. Note that if you are upgrading from a BPON ONT (and thus a tech has come out to install it along with your new cards), and have called to modify your order in advance to add CableCARDs, he might be clueless about their activation and insist on nonsense. Though this may ultimately work out in your favor (see previous bullet point).

Recommendations for an EXCELLENT wireless router for FIOS?
This is somewhat of an offshoot of this post of mine:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31542667-FIOS-install-is-scheduled-for-Aug-8th-in-Boston-finally-advice
With a bit of research, I have found out that my Netgear Nighthawk r8500 (https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R8500.aspx) may NOT be fully compatible with FIOS, and when I say fully compatible, I mean advertised speeds achieved through direct plug and play of an ethernet cable via the ONT.
Does anyone here have a recommendation for a badass router that does everything the r8500 does and gives me the wireless coverage that it does, but works trouble free (within reason, of course) in case I can't use my r8500?
There is this post on the netgear site about using FIOS:
https://kb.netgear.com/23977/Will-my-NETGEAR-router-work-with-Verizon-FiOS
Question is, if I do use this method, will I be able to achieve the same speeds that the quantum gateway gives me (I THINK thats the box that FIOS is providing, but I am not 100% sure as I have not received any equipment yet)?
At the risk of sounding like a schmuck, money for the most part is no object. I mean I'm not going to buy a $2000 router but I do not mind paying $300-500 if need be to take full advantage of the FIOS speed...I just need everything to work correctly, and be as fast as it can possibly be.
thank youuu!

FIOS Ethernet from ONT - No Coax in house
Hello.
I currently have FiOS Internet only service with Ethernet coming from the ONT to my personal router. I'm thinking about adding TV service however, I don't have any COAX run in the house at all.
Would I be able to run an ethernet cable from my router to a STB to get TV? If so, are there any ethernet ready STB's I can purchase without having to rent from Verizon?
Thanks!

How to convince Verizon packet loss isn't my problem?
I have severe, recurring packet loss and "dead zones" in my connection (where I get 100% packet loss for 3-10 seconds at a time) that started cropping up a few weeks ago. I have a continuous line quality monitor enabled via a program called PingPlotter, and the results are unimpressive: I get about 21% packet loss on average to Canada.
Pings and download speeds are great, which tells me it's a problem with intermittent line quality issues. It's not my modem or my computer, because swapping out my modem for a Netgear Nighthawk X10 doesn't fix the problem. Similarly, it's not my computer, because switching from WiFi to Ethernet doesn't help at all.
Having 3-10 second dead zones several times an hour (like, every 2-5 minutes or so) is absolutely devastating for VoIP, streaming, and gaming. The service is effectively worse than my ~8 Mbps AT&T LTE hotspot, which at least has a reliable connection, but only costs $20/month.
However, Verizon keeps going back to my modem and my computer. The problem is with neither. It COULD be my ONT, which is a separate Nokia box on the outside of my house, but it's definitely not the computer or Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100.
How can I convince them to come look at the cabling, ONT, etc. and resolve the problem?

FiOS Gigabit Connection
Hey everyone!
I've been waiting to post this for a while now... It's my pleasure to introduce Instant Internet by FiOS FiOS Gigabit Connection.
This is the name for the new 750/750 tier. ONTs will actually be provisioned for 1024/1024 aka Gigabit, but due to limitations with GPON and Ethernet, expect closer to 940/940.
UPDATE 4/23: ONTs are still provisioned for 1024/1024, and Verizon now brands it as gigabit internet. Nothing has changed about the tier except the name.
Rollout:
As always, dates subject to change. Listed below are general areas, there may be some parts in the listed areas that have/do not have gigabit that are listed otherwise.
Jan 14: New York, Northern New Jersey, Philadelphia, Richmond, & Hampton Roads
Jan 25: Boston and Norfolk
Apr 27: Instant Internet becomes Gigabit Connection for New Customers
Apr 30: Instant Internet becomes Gigabit Connections for Existing Customers and expands to Providence, Washington DC, Montgomery & Howard Counties
2017: Rollout Continues to Baltimore County, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Southern New Jersey, Boston & Philadelphia Suburbs, & More
Pricing:
In areas without Gigabit Connection:
50/50 Base
100/100 +$10 from 50/50
150/150 +$10 from 100/100
300/300 +$100 from 150/150
500/500 +$100 from 300/300
In areas with Gigabit Connection (eventually everyone):
50/50 Base
100/100 +$10 from 50/50
150/150 +$10 from 100/100
300/300 +$30 from 150/150
1024/1024 +$50 from 300/300
As you can see, this is a huge price reduction. 300/300 and 1024/1024 are now more affordable, instead of being ridiculously high.
Please note that if you're an existing customer, your existing bundle discounts may cause a different price to show up. That's normal, as some of your discounts may be specific to the speed you have currently.
This post will be updated with new information as I get it.

[Networking] ONT Ethernet to Google Wifi Setup Guide (new option 11 in FAQ?)
After reading the DSL reports FiOS router config and feeling nauseous about some of the options, (second router!) I tried something new. I have deployed a setup that eliminates the garbage FiOS router and does not require a MoCA bridge. I am using a Google Wifi third-party router and an unmanaged switch to handle the backhaul. The Arris STB connects to the network via Ethernet.
This setup differs from any in the FAQ because it does not attempt to make use of the Verizon router and does not bother with MoCA. I only assume that the Ethernet jack on the STB is enabled and that Verizon isn't completely incompetent at some basic networking.
This configuration worked out of the box. I did not call Verizon once and wasn't present during the install. This equipment is all very new, installed in the last few months. ZIP Code is 21212.
## Initial setup
The existing structure was typical FTTB (fiber to the building). There was an ethernet patch cable and a short bit of coax running from the ONT to the Quantum G1100.
## New Setup
Here's a guide to the setup. A photo of the configuration and a network diagram are attached.
Part 1: in the closet
1. Connected the outgoing coax directly to the ONT
2. Ran ethernet from the ONT to the WAN port on the first Google Wifi and execute the Google Wifi setup
3. Execute the setup for the other Google Wifi points (must be set up over mesh)
4. Turned the unmanaged switch on and connected all the Google Wifi nodes, Sonos, and a printer via Ethernet. There is a patch cable between the main Google Wifi LAN port and port one on the switch (although it wouldn't matter which port, it's unmanaged)
Part 2: in the TV room
5. Connected the second Google Wifi via Ethernet (through the walls) to the network.
6. Ran Ethernet from the second Google Wifi LAN to the Ethernet jack on the Fios STB (Arris VMS1100).
7. Hard reset the STB.
Part 3: testing
8. Wait for STB to boot. Run tests: Guide? Pass. On Demand? Pass. Regular TV? Pass. DVR'd shows? Pass.
9. Run a speed test on Google Wifi. Results: 150 Mbps down/149 Mbps up!
## Epilogue
The Quantum G1100 is currently sitting in the cabinet collecting dust. The Google Wifi is serving unfettered FiOS internet, and all of the features are working as expected.
Bio: I'm a frequent lurker but first-time poster. I have a strong networking and IT background (with an M.S. in IT to go with it).

No option to upgrade Internet faster than 50/50
My 2-year agreement for my Triple Play is ending soon and I was looking to renew but noticed that the maximum internet speed available was 50/50, which is the same as my current speed.
I checked the Verizon website as a new installation of houses in my area and saw that Gigabit speeds were available.
I've had Verizon FiOS for many years, from the research I have done already it looks like I need to get a new ONT?
If I call up Verizon would they send somebody out to upgrade my ONT?
I'm hoping to renew my plan with faster internet for a similar price.

[Networking] LAN to LAN router setup
Hello,
I just upgraded to Fios gigabit and was sent the gs1100 router. Iâve never had much success with Verizonâs routers for WiFi and opt to use a third party router (Asus RT-AC88U).
I have the Asus router connected directly to Ethernet from the ONT, then any LAN on the Asus to any LAN on the Verizon router. I assigned the Asus an ip of 192.168.0.1 and left the Verizon as 192.168.1.1. I havenât touched any settings on the Verizon router, aside from disabling both WiFi bands.
According to everything Iâve read on these forums, I should not be able to access remote DVR with this configuration, but for some reason I can. The guide and on demand is also fully functional.
The only issue I am having is with wireless devices. Even though I have the Asus set to 192.168.0.1, some of my devices get confused and connect to a 192.168.1.XXX address instead of 192.168.0.XXX address. My solution has been to assign all my devices static ips on the correct subnet.
Iâm not an expert on the issue and canât seem to figure out why my devices sometimes erroneously connect to a 192.168.1.XXX address if not assigned a static ip on the .0.XXX subnet.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue Iâd really appreciate it.
P.S. I had this same configuration with the old actiontek and it still suffered from the same intermittent ip issue for wireless devices.

Thinking about switching to FiOS Triple Play - Couple of Questions
Hey guys,
Just a couple of questions. I have FiOS at a different address, but that install was done in 2006 so unsure of current process. Would be switching from my local cable company.
1) In terms of Triple Play with Gigabit, does Verizon use coax, cat5, for both for the ONT > Router run?
2) Would Verizon run a cat5 from the ONT (if placed in basement) to where my router would be on the 2nd floor during the install process? or does that cost extra? If it costs extra, would tipping from the beginning help out?
3) How responsive is the cloud DVR pause, fast forward, rewind?
4) for the Custom TV package, is there any way to easily decode exactly what channels are included with what package? When clicking through each custom TV package, I see tons of channels and duplicates with other custom TV packages. Very annoying to sort through.
Thanks!

FIOS 1Gbps Real world speeds vs Verizon Speed Test
I just upgraded from 300/300 where I received 320/320 consistently over time. These speeds were realized in the real world (i.e., downloading files from various sites that had greater bandwidth then me) and on speed tests on Verizon's systems, DSLreports and Speedtest.net.
Since I upgraded to 1Gbps, I find my real world download speeds to be much more inconsistent and my upload speeds to be much higher than my download. (350 down and 900 up)
However, when I run a speed test on Verizon's server, i get between 800-920 down and 900 up.
DSLReports and speedtest.net give me much lower download speeds (300-600 down and 800-900 up) over period of approx 3 weeks since my upgrade.
Is it possible my provision is bad? Or something can be changed to fix this issue?
Or do i not have an issue at all and this is what you you get when you reach high speeds (that is you run into slower networks between you and the other guy).
Thanks,
TheMole

AOL mail intermittent login failure with mail client (TBird)
Is anybody else having frequent intermittent failures of the AOL server login with a mail client? In the past few weeks, at least half the time when starting Thunderbird to retrieve email from multiple @VZ.net accounts the login fails and I get an error dialogue from TBird. I have checked the security settings in accordance with all the warning emails we were getting a few weeks ago and everything is set correctly. If I close TBird and start it again in a few minutes, it works fine.

[ONT] Is this my ONT?
I have FIOS internet only and therefore don't use any FIOS equipment. My internet runs on an off the shelf router with an ethernet WAN fios line. There is no coax involved. I've been having some technical issues lately and when I call VZN they tell me to reset the ONT. The image attached is of the connection center in my basement. I have two questions.
1. Is the black box circled in red my ONT?
2. The wire for the white power adapter circled in red goes thru the connection box to the outside i'm assuming. Anyone know what this white power adapter is powering?

Contract over in a month, trying to get the the best deal on 1Gig
I currently have Triple Play, 100/100, ExtremeTV and phone. Cost is about $160 per month in NJ.
I also gave the new ONT and the Quantum Gateway router. My contract is up next month and the best deal
they offer so far is a "fresh start" for the same package with 1 Gig up and down for about $20 more.
I could probably do without TV and phone, but they don't offer me any good Internet only options for 1 Gig.
Should I cancel and re apply? Should I cancel and re apply with another SS#?
I would just like to know what my best options are? Thanks.

Verizon Will NOT Remove Charges That I Don't Owe
I got FiOS back in August and I selected the option to buy the Quantum router for $150. However, after I got the router, it was complete garbage, so I just returned it a few days after my FiOS got installed and used my own router. Keep in mind this is in August.
Every single month after, I keep getting charged for the router + the tax on it (around $164).
I have literally contacted FiOS over 15 times regarding this and they say the same bs every time that we will fix it by next week and to not worry about it.
It has now been FOUR billing cycles, and the $164 has still NOT been removed from my account.
I get emails every other day and mail sent to my house almost every week asking me to pay the $162 which I don't even owe. My whole FiOS service has even been shut down because I "didn't pay my bill." This is literally harassment.
The Verizon reps I call always say we will fix it and to not worry about but don't do anything. I am actually going to leave Verizon and go back to Optimum because this ridiculous. I have wasted so much time and this issue STILL hasn't been resolved. I gave the router back and don't owe the $164, I don't understand why I am still being charged for it EVERY month.
So first, I need this issue to be resolved which I don't even know what to do at this point and second I need some sort of compensation (some sort of credit or gift card) from Verizon for wasting my time.

[Networking] Fios self install activation without Verizon router
We're scheduled to self-install our new Fios Gigabit today, we went through the instructions and activated through activate.verizon.com, but we still have no Internet connection. Verizon FiOS privacy concerns?
Hi Guys,
My friend has FiOS in his house and we noticed that he has been getting Amazon recommendations for computer stuff, shit that I would be looking up and sometimes recommendations for what his dad looks up. He nor his wife ever look up those kinds of stuff yet it comes up on their amazon shopping recommendations. We figured out that its only me and his did that ever connect to their wifi. Could it be that Verizon is actually tracking the advertisement ID of whatever devices are connected to their home internet?
Also, is there a way to turn it off? I convinced him to get FiOS, I have a deep disgust for Sh!tCast and he has been pleased with the FiOS service. However I don't want him to switch and support Comcast and their inferior FTTN docsis shitty network but we were talking, this is sort of a breach of his privacy and he's demanding to find answers.

PowerReserve Question and GIG Speed Requirements
Hey all.....
power reserve
Sooo..... finally sick of spectrum I jumped to FIOS. Install date set. I bought the power reserve when offered, but now it occurs to me that this might just power the ONT. If I want telephone (my home has no real wiring) I will have to make sure the power supply for my PC has the modem and the Cordless plugged in? Yes? Alternatives? Does the ONT come with an RJ-11 built-in or am I looking at this wrong? Just wondering how I make sure I can have emergency phone.
GIG Speed
And from what I read in the forum, even though every FAQ I saw said they would use the COAX I already have, even if it is outside the house (where the splitter to cable starts) I have to have them drill holes for Ethernet throughout my home to where I usually need to have my modem?? Did I read that right (feeling a little bit put out by that right now to tell you the truth if they need to go through the crawlspace from one side of the house to the next)
Thanks for filling in the blanks where you can! :)
Edit: Right now I just connect a cordless base to the back of the spectrum modem for the phone. Hoping/Guessing that the Quantum does the same at least, though it doesn't show in the manual I looked at.... hmmm......
