I've been watching the rollout in Maryland and it looks like gigabit is spreading between 495 and 695 (so Silver Spring to Catonsville).
It then seems to jump from Catonsville directly to Towson.
Meanwhile, Verizon actually spread its footprint north of Hunt Valley into the Sparks area - but is only offering 1 internet tier - 50mbps.

[Networking] Need advice on improving download speeds on 1Gb/1Gb connection.
I have many questions on the speeds I am getting using The FIOS speed test both at the router (GS1100) and at my device as measured by the corresponding FIOS tests.
1. How accurate are the FIOS tests in the first place?
2. As you can see from my first screenshot my speeds to my router fall into the published maximum range. However, the speeds to my device, as shown by the second screenshot, are a full 100Mb less for download but significant higher for the upload speed. Seeing as the upload speed to my device is going through an extra layer (my computer) I would expect it to be less than to the router. My download speed seems to indicate this fact.
3. Which leads to the question as to why my download speeds are 100Mb less than advertised (unless the advertised speeds are to the router and not the device). When I first got FIOS in the summer I was getting around 920 on the download side to my device. I was very happy with that. Over the months I've seen it drop to what it is today.
4. Is there any parameter(s) I can change either in the Router or my NIC to improve my download speed. I have two NICS on my computer, an Intel 1Gb and a Realtek 1Gb. I've used both and get basically the same speeds. Currently I am using the Realtek NIC. There are quite a few parameters I can change and I'd like to know if there are some that really will improve download speeds.
I switched over to FIOS from Optimum Online. My download and uploads speeds always exceeded the published speeds. OOL over provisions their speeds in order to achieve better than advertised speeds. Doesn't seem the case for FIOS downloads.
Any comments or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

"PUBLIC NOTICE OF COPPER RETIREMENT" Question
I was looking at Verizon's copper retirement page and saw my town is on the list. I also saw a new box on a pole but was wondering when I should expect FIOS. When it says "Implementation Date: On or after August 23, 2018" on the notice, does that mean I should expect FIOS after that date or they will stop serving the copper network after that date? Just thinking about getting FIOS is great because of my cable company charging an arm and a leg for service and the picture quality isn't that great.
Also I will post the link of the notice below.

[ONT] POTS backup with PowerReserve
A new ONT has been installed and Cybershield DBH36D12V (with 12 D cell batteries) provided for backup. However it requires being switched manually when needed during power failure. If left ON in normal condition FiOS internet and TV do not work. Manual NO/NC switch provides 0.15 VDC when OFF and 19.1 VDC when ON. Battery pack output plugs into 120 VAC (Nokia) power module and is unsupervised.
I would like to set this up to switch ON automatically when 120 volt power fails. How can this be done?

[Networking] Do I need to reset the Quantum gateway for a new install?
Disconnected old service last Sunday. Ordered a new self-install using my wife's name after numerous calls ending up nowhere close to what I was paying (retention attempts).
First of all, do I need to reset my quantum gateway (my own router) for the new install, or simply go to activatemyfios.verzion.net. All the necessary connection/cabling is intact, and I suppose the "self-install" is just the activation.
The other question is, when I placed the order, it only let me choose install date a week from the ordering date. Now when I logged in, in "my verizon" account order status, it said " complete install BY 10/24" , does it mean that I can just go and activate it now or it will remain dead until 10/24?
Thanks a lot.

Verizon Email Transition to AOL's Servers
On Feb 15, Verizon email will start to transition to AOL's servers, like what happened in FL, CA, and TX.
Here are all the deets: https://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/email/migrations.htm
It may take a while for you to get the transition email. Once you do, you have a month to switch.

Removing FIOS router and replace with Moca adapter
I currently have FIOS TV, internet and phone. For the last few years, I have been running my own router as primary with FIOS router as secondary supporting only the Moca coax for the tv service. All internet activity is done through my router. It has been working flawless but because of the limited space where I have the router, I want to remove the bulky FIOS router and replace it with a moca adapter so that the TV portion of the service continue to work.
The ONT is configured to deliver internet via the ethernet port and not COAX. The coax cable runs from the ONT to splitter where it splits one line upstairs to the main STB box and the other downstairs. The line downstairs where the router is splits again. One coax cable goes to the STB client box and the other connects to the fios router coax connection.
My current setup is as follows:
- Asus RT-AC66R router (primary) - ethernet connected to WAN port from ONT. Router is configured to support dhcp for STB and network devices. Everything works except DVR outside of network.
- FIOS router (MI424WR-GEN 3I - rev I / firmware 40.21.10.3) - connected via lan port of fios router and lan port of asus router. All other functions such as wifi, dhcp networking is disabled since it is not needed.
What I plan to do is replace the FIOS router with the Actiontec bonded Moca 2.0 ethernet to coax adapter (ECB6200S02). This adapter has 2 coax connectors (coax out [STB/TV] and Coax in [has networking symbol]) and one ethernet port. I know the ethernet port connects to the port of the asus router but I'm not sure about the coax connection. Do both coax need to be connected to the line? One is Coax in and the other is Coax out. I'm assuming based on how the fios router only has one coax connector, I would only connect the coax in of the adapter to the splitter. All of the cable boxes are connected to the same coax line including the fios router. I searched online and here but could not find the answer.

[Pricing] How Long Do Introductory Discounts Usually Last?
Sorry for asking this again, but I previously posted this at the bottom of a longer, unrelated thread that I had posted a few months ago, so I think perhaps it's not as visible there. One person did helpfully respond, but I was hoping to get some more testimonials from others.
When I browse the offers for FIOS, this is what it shows me as far as the discounts I'd be getting:
New Fios Internet 50/50 $84.99
New $10 Exclusive Online Order Discount Included -$10.00
New $15 Special 12 Mo. Discount thru Oct 23, 2018 -$15.00
New $20 Special Bonus Discount Included -$20.00
Estimated Monthly Subtotal $39.99
There's only one discount that explicitly states how long it lasts. Has anyone else had experience with how long similar discounts usually lasted before you shot back up to full price?

VZE Congestion with Telia
Yes, I am a VZ DSL customer, but this specific problem lies in the VZE backbone network that both FiOS and DSL customers share past the local aggregation router. I'm posting in the FiOS sub with this problem because it's more likely a poster here will run into the issue versus in the DSL subforum which is far less active. There is no technical fault with my DSL line, the issue is far upstream from the ATM soup.
As of this evening the Verizon Enteprise->Telia peering router in Ashburn (157.130.91.86) has been suffering from high congestion. I am ending up with 300+ms latency to a data center in Atlanta for a TF2 server I play on, within an Internap datacenter. The congestion is originating from that router.
In the past my traffic was carried by other carriers past the VZE network, not Telia. It's my understanding that VZ has a history documented here of congestion with Telia.
Anyone else on VZ wireline in the VA /MD/DC area encountering congestion between the VZ/Telia network? Specifically people in LATA's 246, 236 and 240.

Oddly slow download speeds with FIOS
So sometime yesterday, I was changing routers, and some other stuff, but at some point, my download speeds went to crap, like 2-5 Mbps. But my uploads are still 940+ Mbps. I switched everything back to how I had it originally, did not fix it. I was wondering if maybe my area is having issues?
I have a new ONTAP to ethernet, right into my server running pfsense. These were my most recent results. It's also a little passed midnight here, so past peak hours for sure. It used to be great..so weird! Any ideas?

Fresh Start Offer
I'm nearing the end of my current 2-year agreement on my Triple Play service (75Mbps, Prime HD, one phone.) When I checked MyVerizon today, it presented a "Fresh Start Offer" that looked interesting at first, but isn't as good as it looks. For me, the big change is the loss of "DVR Free for Life" discount. Those without the discount might find this interesting.
Highlights:
o) Two offers for me, one continuing my current 75MBps and one with Gigabit. Base cost is $114.99 and $134.99 with agreement incentives (no taxes, fees, equipment). Totals below.
o) TV switched from the old "Prime" to "Preferred." Some channels I don't care about lost.
o) $150 gift card offered. Good for VZ Wireless products and accessories only.
o) Upgrade to Gigabit costs $150 ($50/mo for three months)
o) Two years of Spanish Channel or Sports Pass for free.
o) My current "DVR Free for Life" discount is removed.
o) Regional Sports Network Fee and FiOS TV Broadcast Fees go up a lot (now $6.39 and $3.49). I suspect this will happen with any new agreement.
Total including all discounts with taxes and fees:
75MBps: $164.64
Gigabit: $193.64
Both with one M-DVR and one STB.
In short, it looked like a good deal until I dug into it. Others may find it more interesting depending on their current discounts.
I'll be calling retentions soon. Maybe they can do better.
Good Luck.

Can I connect a phone line to the ONT directly? [pic included]
I noticed this yesterday when the tech was upgrading the ONT. I have verizon phone too.
I need just one phone line to connect to a phone inside the house right on the other side of the ONT pictured.
Sorry for the dumb question but I'd prefer if I could do this myself. :)

[Networking] Network Help/ Recommendations - No Ethernet
I got the FIOS gigabit installed at my place. Prior to the Gigabit, I had COAX running from my ONT to the STB/ router. I have custom tv so I need to use VZ supplied router.
During Install, the tech said I needed Ethernet. He did go to the attic but was unable to find a way to pull the Ethernet from the ONT to the Living room. For that moment, he installed the vz supplied router near the ONT which is around 20 feet away from my living room. The current setup is not very helpful as I have dropped signals.
I am looking for a way to move the router to my living area so that I can get better connectivity. Currently, running Ethernet is not an option.
My current setup looks like this... What are my options...
Pink Star:
Ethernet goes from ONT to the VZ Router
Orange Circle:
Coax goes from ONT to MOCA Splitter.
Moca Splitter:
One goes to the vz Router (Black)
Second goes to my living room STB (White)
Green Triangle:
The yellow cat5e cable from VZ Modem goes to the Kitchen area where there was a data jack. I would like to keep this
Thank you in advance.

[Pricing] Goodbye Gigabit, then Hello
I am one of the unfortunate existing subscribers who paid $20/month more for Gigabit over the considerable amount I was already paying for my (still in-contract) double play Ultimate/150/Quantum Enhanced bundle. I have to admit it was fun watching the Gigabit speed tests, but I found no practical benefit to gigabit over 150 in actual use. True, I don't have 44 devices connected and streaming at once, and I don't upload or download 25GB files regularly. But we do have several computers and phones running off Wifi and three TV's streaming at various times, and there was absolutely no discernible difference. Maybe this is a testament to FiOS's general high quality Internet service, but I wanted to get back to 150/150 (and of course save $240/year) before it disappeared as an option. So I wish all you Gigabiters the best, and remember, it always pays to be a new customer. :-)
Edit: And did I mention that we have a small vacation place in Northeast Pennsylvania and when my family is there we run a similar number of devices over a 10/2 connection? :-)

[ONT] Gigabit getting installed tomorrow
Tomorrow my ONT is getting upgraded and hopefully gigabit get's upgraded from 75/75 where I am at right now. I have been reading the countless informative posts on this site for the information needed so thank you.
My question is since I know I will require an ethernet cable run from the ONT to the FQG, how should I handle asking the Verizon tech to run it further than just inside my house on the other side of the wall? The basement is completely finished and will be difficult to run, but not impossible to run cat5e to my NAS. Just trying to set my expectation for tomorrow...do they just run it on the other side of the wall or "try" to accommodate the customer? Does it depend on the tech? Like I said just trying to set expectations.
Once I get ethernet cable run from the ONT -> FQG I think I should be set with my 2 bonded Moca 2.0 adapters to get connectivity to the rest of the house.
Thanks for your help

Problem with my PC? FiOS Gigabit Connection slow download
Getting ethernet download speeds on my PC around 300-500, but uploads well over 900. Router shows 940/1200. Spent a half hour with a tech trying to determine the problem, and why I can't get over that speed. Using a mac plugged in, I get almost 800. The PC that I own is a ASUS G751JY 17-Inch Gaming Laptop [2014 model] Link: http://a.co/7NMB73O with Windows 10 installed. Using the standard Quantum Gateway router. Scanned for viruses. Nothing. Anyone have ideas how to improve my speed, or is this what I should expect?

I canât get Fios Gigabit but townhouse next to me does
Hello,
I am moving to new built community in VA. The house 9939 has the gigabit connection by my house 9941 in have 100 mbps option. Considering itâs a town house, how is that possible ? Is it a systems glitch on Verizonâs part, what can I do since I am moving there is couple of weeks.

How to test MOCA
How do you test MOCA to check for a possible bad splitter or maybe router? I have used MOCA in my home for several years and after switching back to Verizon after being gone for a year I have had nothing but problems with my MOCA set up. The G1100 is mounted in my attached shed via ethernet and coaxial. Originally I had used my own MOCA actiontec 2.0 unbonded adapter hooked up but kept having dropped connections. I can seem to keep only one MOCA connection to my Netgear set up as an access point. All my other adapters end up losing connection or I have picture stutter with my Apple TV's. The Apple TV's work fine on wireless. So here are the new items in the set up. A new Verizon branded 4-way splitter, coaxial cable from G1100 to splitter, and the G1100 as the main router with Netgear as access point. I have no picture quality problems and Coaxial stats in G1100 shows 630MPS connection rate.

[Pricing] FIOS and Phone Bundles?
I'm interested in getting FIOS 50/50, but I also still need a landline for certain reasons. However, there are no FIOS+voice only bundles that I can see anywhere on the Verizon site. Attempting to assemble a package of that type results in a 74.99/mo. fee (which would go up after a year), which just seems a bit absurd given the FIOS+TV prices. Is there something that I'm missing?
Additionally, it seems that when I entered my landline phone number to check that it could be transferable, it claimed that it was not. Being a Verizon customer already, how is this correct?

New ONT and Quantum router = Almost Gig down
Been running a few tests I've gotten the 960 down on speedtest.net with 890 on the up but this is the 1st one over a gig on either side. I guess the best way to see what it tops out at its to just try and see if I can max it out. That might take some planning, but I must say, from starting out with 768Kb/s in '01 I've come a long way. With alot of help along the way from peeps on here
