MI424WR-Rev I Bridged VOD Issue

I have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 (Tomato) as my 2nd router and having a strange VOD issue. I followed the directions found here: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27666920-How-to-Make-Actiontec-MI424WR-Revision-I-Rev-I-a-Network The tv guide works fine, VOD works but randomly while watching something will stop streaming and produces the error shown in the attached image. Happens on both of my boxes (living room, bedroom), I couldn't find anything on Google to help me out, can anyone suggest anything to look at to troubleshoot this problem? I'm curious though how does VOD work? I assumed that it doesn't stream over my internet connection and comes through the fiber through the ONT and directly to the box requesting the video. I assume the internet connection is more for the guide and searching VOD (I know if you don't have internet the guide and VOD don't work).

Hello, I live is Spotsylvania VA and over the last year or so, I have noticed the speed test from Verizon, my speeds have went from 84 mbps to 78 mbps for download and my upload is 94-96 mbps. The server is in Reston VA. Have they had issues there lately?

[Billing] No One Willing to Discuss Final FioS Billing

Called Vz Billing and got stuck in its endless phone tree, then transferred to an international number that doesn't exist, only to be disconnected. Repetitive process and could not get a representative when requested while in IVR. Tried to lookup email address to send a message, but same result, page refresh without any contact information. Frustrating! I guess as punishment for disconnecting service, Vz continues to send bills for service. Anyone have a contact email for Vz Fios billing?

Question about DMZ Zone setting on Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I

My setup: Actiontec on 192.168.0.1 (plugged into the WAN port from Verizon FIOS box) - running as Main Host Router (WIFI is turned OFF) D-Link 890L/R on 192.168.1.1 (plugged into Actiontec LAN port 1) - running in Router mode Now, I know what you are going to say: You should be running the D-Link in AP mode. I agree, but for some reason, when I turn it on, I get a lot of lost WIFI connections, SSID network disappearing, etc... So the D-Link in Router mode works better and so far, I can't see any conflicts. My questions: 1) I realize that with my setup, none of the D-Link firewall settings are actually working, as it's not the Main Host Router. But what will happen if I will go inside the Actiontec, go to Firewall settings and then select DMZ Zone, and there, I would enter 192.168.1.1 (D-Links IP address)? Would this do any good? Or will then totally expose the D-Link and anything that's connected via it (Ethernet or WIFI connection) to having no Firewall? 2) If this DMZ is okay to use, does it still mean that any D-Link firewall settings will be ignored since its the secondary router? 3) I do realize that there are some ways around in bypassing the Actiontec all together (or Bridge mode), but I don't want to deal with the VOD / PPV issues that some have and some don't. All I am trying to do with the above is to make sure (since I am running both routers in Router modes), is that they don't trip up each other. All advice and insight is always appreciated from the experts in this wonderful forum.

[Pricing] Fios 50/50 Regular Rates

I am considering switching to Fios 50/50 Internet (no other services), but cannot determine from their site what the regular rates are. Right now, it states that it's $44.99/month for the first year, $54.99/month for the second year, and then regular rates apply. What are the regular rates? Assuming I purchase my router, what other fees do they charge (other than government mandated taxes/fees). I just received my latest Comcast price increase notice, so I'm trying to compare prices as best I can. Thanks in advance for all replies!

WPA-2 & Group Key Update Interval

Can someone explain to me the purpose of the "Group Key Update Interval" setting when using WPA-2? I understand that the value is in seconds but I don't understand what happens when the specified number of seconds has elapsed. Thank you!

[Networking] Whole-home ethernet using pre-existing coax cabling and FiOS GW

I recently bought a newly-renovated house with coax cabling throughout, all of which is home run back to the ONT in the basement. The previous owners were TV people; we are not (we are an OTT household). It is a 4-story home with tall ceilings, and 2-ft thick stone walls (exterior mostly, but some inside walls as well). You can perhaps already tell where I'm going with this. The gateway (a Quantum G1100) is currently on the second floor. For the sake of discussion, let's presume my goal is to have hard-wired IP devices (e.g., Rokus) feeding HD content from a NAS unit or the web to TVs on all 4 floors of the house. That will require at least one Ethernet port per floor. I *think* the answer is: 3rd floor: MoCA adapter (hard connection point) 2nd floor: Gateway (wireless coverage for top two floors) 1st floor: MoCA adapter (hard connection point) Basement: Network Extender (wireless coverage for bottom two floors) I'm considering the ECB3500T01 MoCA adapter, but am wondering if that's necessary (it's ~$220). Given the description above, do these adapters need to be on both ends of a coax cable run? Or is it only necessary to place in any coax outlet given the gateway will be propagating the MoCA signal throughout the house? Can someone confirm I'm thinking about this the right way, and whether I'm overlooking a simpler/better alternative to achieve my goal?

Fios congestion at night

Anybody else in the SoCal area more specifically 90650 area code with slow download speeds at night? I have 150/150 Mbps and my upload is constant throughout the day. However, the download drops around 8:30 PM until around midnight every single night. As low as 10 Mbps! My equipment is fine, as it has been troubleshooted with multiple verizon technicians. I finally got verizon to leave my ticket open and some acknowledgement by network technicians. One technician admitted that the issue probably won't be addressed until there's enough service tickets open regarding this issue. She mentioned it could be old equipment that can't handle the payload from everyone being on their internet at the primetime hours.

Return to FiOS: How to avoid router rental and setup fee?

$

Hey guys, I left FiOS about half a year ago and went back to TWC. After checking VZ's website recently, I found that FiOS 100/100 w/ the pre-wired discounts pretty much matches TWC Maxx 100's price in NYC. (I got an Actiontec Rev I from VZ's $6 giveaway and I personally uses an Asus router from T-Mobile.) My questions are: Would a tech visit be required for Internet only, pre-wired? (My ONT is one feet from my router.) Does fast pass method preserve all discounts, including waiving setup fee? If I choose to rent and return the router immediately, are their retail partners reliable? (The only corporate FiOS store in NYC is in Brooklyn, which is pretty far from me.) Thanks everyone!

[Networking] G1100 + EA9200 + WCB3000N + pureVPN...

Hi All, Bought a new house where fios is offered (had u-verse previously) so jumped in for the 75/75 triple bundle. Home is pre-wired for enet in a few rooms. ONT (outside) wired for both enet and coax to a bedroom closet on the 2nd floor in an On-Q box w/coax splitter and rj-45 ports where a few rooms have enet homerun'd back to. There's a couple STBs and a Quantum TV DVR. Of course, the On-Q is in the baby's room closet (way to go builder - couldn't put that in the master closet, eh? THANKS for nothing, genius!) So I asked the installer to do a few things: 1. Route internet traffic via enet and the STBs via coax (which he did and have pics if needed of the ONT for verification. Read through multiple posts on verifying this and exhausted all screens in the G1100 itself but I know enough to know I don't know w/100% certainty) 2. Move the G1100 from the On-Q box in the baby's room closet to the upstairs loft, where a pre-wired enet port exists, so I don't have to ninja in to restart router at night when there's issues (which I know is inevitable) **Please note - by doing this the installer claimed he would not be able to light up any of the remaining enet ports throughout the house - ok fine... I'll deal with garbage later 3. Need wired connection in the study downstairs where I sometimes work from home and run my home server and other boxes. He installed a WCB3000N via coax as a solution. The system works fine but now I'm ready to, and am politely requesting guidance on how to do the following: 1. Hook up the home server to the WCB3000N (wired connection). Used for remote access for file sharing via ports 443 and 80 (previously fwd'd and mac filtered for security), OS-2012R2, Plex, blah blah... 2. Add the EA9200 router for additional wifi coverage downstairs (G1100 is upstairs now and there's some gaps even with the WCB3000N in the downstairs study) 3. Add and config pureVPN service to the entire network at one of the routers while maintaining all TV and Phone related services. I've read through myriad threads and the FAQ and think Option 6 may be the right direction but the WCB3000N, adding the EA9200 and pureVPN complicate matters. Again, I know enough to know I don't know how to tackle this without having a coronary while executing multiple solo attempts (been down that road before and I'm too old for the ticker to take it again) I thank you, in advance, for any guidance!

[ONT] Replace Battery

Our red battery light came on and also when accessing VOD Verizon told me to replace the battery. So instead we unplugged the battery from the ont, replugged and for a few days it's been green. However the message from Verizon still comes up when accessing VOD. My question, we have a warranty on the battery so we could get it replaced if it's really going out. If the red light is off BUT the message keeps coming up, does that mean the battery is weak and needs replacing, or not?

FIOS 150/150 and tri-band AC router

Hey guys, first time poster here but I have read a lot of the content as it relates to fios. I just recently have access to fios internet/TV but have a dilemma. I want to use the 150/150 package and have had my mind set on getting the TP-link tri band archer c3200 router to power my house. I know I can use this router directly if i only go with the internet/phone packagae and keep directtv for tv. What I dont know is if I can go with the much cheaper triple play package and somehow bridge from the quantum router to this tri band router or would that not translate well for all the features the tri band can offer. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Fiber cable fell onto the street. What # to call?

The house across the street from me is undergoing renovations. It looks like the FiOS fiber came off the house and is now dangling from the pole in my yard and running across a busy street. Who do I call for this? I'm not seeing options for this type of issue on the website, unless I'm completely missing something.

Where can I find and adjust QOS in the G-1100 for a wired (Ethernet) connection. I see it for wireless, but not for wired. I am trying to adjust to improve the buffer bloat grade (C) that I get on DSL fiber speed test. Please let me know. Thanks and a peaceful holiday season to all.

Am I supposed to be upgraded to 100/100 or do I have to pay more to get those speeds?

Trying to get the straight story on FIOS speeds available to me...

So I live in Northern NJ. When we put fios in our house based on what we told them 7 years ago there was a possibility of 10+ TV Boxes and 8+ phones lines. Originally they were going to install 3 ONT's but then changed their mind and installed a huge 621 MDU ont. That's for apartment buildings. It's given us a lot of trouble. Locks up regularly on the internet side. Problem is we use a checkpoint router instead of the FIOS router for VPN so that gives them a convenient out saying "your not using our equipment". I have the same router running at other locations on 612 ONT's with no problems. They seem unconvinced. Easier to just say no. So we started exploring raising our 20/20 speeds because we move a lot of data over night and would benefit from the higher speeds. So the 621 is a Bpon ONT. When we call to inquire they tell us that we can move to 50/50 but not to 75/75 or 100/100. Now that sounds strange. I understand that 100/100 requires a Gpon ONT but have also understood that they will make an appointment to upgrade the ONT. Not us... They just say 50/50 is highest. Won't get mad, she's just reading a script but that's not what we want. Now there is a possibility that the 621 equipment might limit possible speed options to 50/50 but I should be given the option to upgrade to a 611 (8 phone line capable) and _should_ be capable of 75/75. I've got a 612 on 75/75 4 houses away. Anyway. With all of this going on all Verizon would do (specific to our lock up problem) is to send a tech. So we say fine, send a tech. He comes, he looks he says "what a big ont, never seen one of those" and then says he can't doing anything. He can't change it because there is "no order" He can only do work if there is an order. He also spoke with his "boss" and came back and said 100/100 was not available in my area because of lack of competition. Can someone shed some light on this. Maybe Office or pole equipment isn't upgraded unless they are facing competition from CATV? Although he says he's installed 100/100 nearby. Flim flam? How pervasive is 100/100+? So I'm going in circles. Going to continue to pursue this with Verizon until I get somewhere. So interested in any minutia that I might be missing in my FIOS knowledge. Bpons usually good to 75/75 Gpons good to their 100/100 or 300/300 speeds. What limits speed in a certain area? How pervasive is 100/100? See it advertised often. Possible approaches to take besides calling them a bunch of pinheads. Really don't like to be mean, but it's there way or the high way. Once had to fight for a FIOS site between two FIOS houses and they kept telling me that my town didn't have FIOS. Only after they sent it to their surveying department did they finally realize, yup it's right there one the pole, but not in the DB. Took 6 months. So verizon isn't perfect. Everything isn't always what's on the screen... Anyway. Sorry for the rant, but this sort of stuff gets my goat. Any info you can provide will be helpful. I like to have a good understanding of what I'm talking about and will be the first to admit I'm wrong, when someone tells me how it works.

is Verizon supplying IPV6 yet?

i know most phones already use it, i would expect their wireless plans use it, so are residential users able to get it if we enable it on our routers (3rd party)

[Pricing] Should I switch back to FIOS?

$

Just switched to Comcast 150/10 about a month ago when my contract ran out because I got a better deal (cut the cord)- paying $60/mo for the 1st year $73 for the 2nd. No contract. Just checked the FIOS website- they are offering me 150/150 for $50/mo first year, $60/mo 2nd year, 2yr contract. Waived sign-up fee. Very tempted now... Only thing keeping me from switching back is the contract, and that Comcast will offer 4k TV service somewhere down the line (but who knows when that will be). I'll probably do it, even with the contract.

[Networking] Need help with FIOS speed and MOCA bridge

Hi everyone! I hope someone here can help me sort out what's going on in my home. My FIOS is installed with coax from the ONT. I have a MI424WR router and just purchased one of the free ones to use as a MOCA bridge. Recently, my network speed is horrible. I ran the following test from my desktop computer, which is connected with a wireless N NIC: The desktop is fairly far in the house from the router and regularly has a low signal strength. I bought the extra MI424WR to use as a MOCA bridge. I followed the directions here, to include the note at the bottom regarding disabling the coax link: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15984 The new router is in the same room as the desktop. After I completed the setup, the desktop could see the new router and tried to connect to it but failed. Since it has the same SSID as the primary router, the desktop then moved on and connected to the much weaker signal with the same SSID. Anyone know what I did incorrectly? Likewise, other than running a wired connection (which I may be forced to do), any idea why my network speed is so slow? TIA, CheapDad

Fios Router vs 3rd party with VOD

I've always removed the FIOS router and used my own because of VPN needs. At my home I never use VOD and actually don't even have any STB's, just a CC for Tivo so I don't even need a FIOS router for guide data. At one of my other FIOS locations that has a 3rd party router I have a FIOS router behind the router to feed the guide data for the STB's. I've been told that whenever they try to use VOD it's all blocky and freezes and basically doesn't work. Can someone explain what role the FIOS router plays in receiving VOD. If I've got a 3rd party router with 20/20 service how is that different than a FIOS router? Are speed limitations removed for VOD to the FIOS router? I'm not sure I'm understanding why VOD basically isn't working without the FIOS router out front. Roveer
