Just wanted to share an interesting troubleshooting experience I had this morning.
I use a DLink DIR-655 to connect to the ONT via Ethernet for my WAN connection. At (almost exactly) 1 AM eastern time this morning I lost my WAN connection. The link appeared to be good but I couldn't get a DHCP lease.
I removed my DIR-655 and hooked up the Actiontec router, same deal. I chatted with tech support and they confirmed the issue. Finally I hooked a laptop directly up to the ONT over ethernet and was able to get a DHCP lease. I released the lease, hooked the actiontec router up to the ONT and it was able to get a DHCP lease.
Strange thing though, after the Actiontec got an IP address back, I did a trace route to google.com to confirm internet access and the route went via IPv6 instead of IPv4 like it normally does.
Did Verizon enable IPv6 on their FIOS network last night (I'm in Northern Virginia)?
