Anyone here know why logging in to https://fios_quantum_gateway/#/login will usually (but not always) fail, when https://192.168.1.1/#/login works, using the exact same password?

Nest cameras go offline every Monday morning

Every Monday morning all my Nest cameras go offline at the same time. The only way to get them back is to do a hard reset of my router. How can I resolve this? I assume Verizon is doing an IP change around this time.

[Pricing] Renegotiating Contract - Need Help, Tips, Advice

Up until last year I was on dialup and finally got Fios in June. I was told by a Verizon employee that I should call in May 2020 to renegotiate my contract. I'm currently paying a total of about $86 a month for the 50/50 plan with voice phone service (not the digital phone plan), no router fees/charges, plus the inside wire maintenance plan. Is there a way to renew the contract for the same price? I am unable to get Comcast internet or even satellite at my exact address (the neighbors can get Comcast, not me - long story). The only option for high speed internet is Verizon. So it's not like I can threaten to switch to Comcast. I've never had to negotiate before. So any tips would be great. Thank you.

[FiOS Phone] Constant SPAM calls!!

Forgive me if this has been recently discussed but I am really sick and tired of the relentless daily spam calls that come in on my FiOS landline number. I'm on the useless "Do Not Call" list and I activated Nomorobo years ago. I remember reading that the major carriers were going to implement some new "highly effective" spam-blocking technology with a stupid name in 2020. Well??? Some of the spam calls that get through the joke barrier called Nomorobo are accurately identified as such by the Verizon Caller ID...but they still ring a bunch of times and usually make their way to voicemail, which means I then have to take the time to call in or use the app to delete them...and the corresponding email notifications I get. What a pain! Yes, I could get rid of my landline (although due to some kind of perverse algorithm it would probably raise my FiOS bill) but I don't really want to...nor should I have to. Is there a way to block unknown callers or send them directly into VM like you can do with an iPhone? Is there away to only allow certain callers? Is there a way to block or directly send to VM the calls recognized as SPAM? I've been dealing with this for years but being home so much lately due to COVID-19 restrictions it's REALLY grating on me now!

[ONT] Are 2 better than one, and what's this?

A friend called me. The FIOS at the property where she rents an barn apartment was DOA. She described things (Where does the fiber go?" etc.) but finally sent imagery. This is all over her head in a basement but she found a short ladder. There are 2 ONT's. The white one had one LED illuminated. She got the case opened and found the black GPON unit but the outer case is cleverly designed so she could not see those LED's At my suggestion she power-cycled it & everything came up. 1) Why 2 ONT's? 2) Never seen a case/PS like that. Is that a slot for a backup AGM battery at the top? 3) Check out that high-quality CAT5 splice job!

[Networking] Replacing Router w/ TV Service - Still Possible?

$

Hi all, I know there are directions for replacing the old MI424 with a third party router and keeping full FiOS TV functionality, but since they mention the 424 they gotta be pretty old. I've currently got a G1100 and all the old TV hardware....the old Moto boxes from 10 years ago. I recently acquired some hardware that I'd like to toss pfsense on and make it serve as my router to the entire network...not to mention it'll put my IPv6 tunnel "in front" of every client. Are those old instructions still valid? Did Verizon change things to where I'm stuck with the 1100 as my primary for whatever data needs to be pushed? Is it still possible to do a set-up with your own router while maintaining full tv service with everything on the same LAN? The idea of plugging my new router in to the G1100 just negates the reason for wanting to use the new router.

FiOS and ICMP traceroute

Many of us know FiOS's network eats ICMP traceroute packets, which are generated by the standard Windows tracert command(*). UDP works fine, it's just ICMP that's the problem. ICMP worked years ago, but something changed in Verizon's network. This causes no end of confusion for Windows tracert users. Anyone have any clues about why FiOS messes with ICMP tracert packets? Any reason why we shouldn't expect them to fix this? (*) Example for those that haven't seen this (note only one hop between router and the target): C:\>tracert google.com Tracing route to google.com [172.217.6.238] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 2 ms 3 ms 3 ms lga25s55-in-f238.1e100.net [172.217.6.238] Trace complete.

New To Fios, Various System Questions & Clarification

Hi everyone, I am moving to a new location with Fios available, so you'll be seeing me around from time to time. I am more familiar with DOCSIS, but want to learn Fios. I was researching and reading the FAQ which is really helpful. I tried to make a few improvements, but guess I don't have editing permissions since it's not like a Wiki. So anyway, the way I understand the speed tiers is that everything 75/75 and under was old BPON technology that is still active, but they are trying to finish pushing everyone off of it. And in mid-2019, the GPON tiers 100 and 150 got bumped up to 200, 300 went to 400, and 500 went to gigabit. So now all customers are on 200, 400 or gigabit, unless they're still on the legacy BPON system, correct? I believe the 4 generations of official routers were the G3100, G1100, MI424WR, and 9100EM. Correct? Why are there like 20 different models of ONTs with the same types and features? I am also finding that some customers are on a MoCa WAN system different than regular MoCa, that was limited to 100mbps. Is there any reason Verizon can't or won't upgrade this MoCa to higher speeds? The latest MoCa 2.5 can do gigabit no problem. Although, I imagine ethernet is fine with the vast majority of users, except maybe older apartment buildings. Just curious. The way I understand this, the cable video and internet data is sent over the fiber backbone at different wave lengths. The ONT basically acts as a cable "headend", but on the premises. Outputting each channel on a seperate digital frequency of the coax, just like Comcast does. Then the Verizon STBs (or cablecard devices) tune into this. It seems like it would make more sense in this case for Verizon to just go IPTV. Since AFAIK, the ONT does not output analog cable signals anyway. Maybe they are just stuck with an older design? Even though FIOS video is being delivered the "old fashioned way", I think they still use MoCa LAN (different than that old MoCa WAN thing) to deliver guide data, VOD content, and on-screen caller ID, right? That's why these features don't work with a third-party router without taking additional special steps. Thanks for the insight into this unique system!

Hi - Moving to a new house in early June. Buying the house… so it'll be completely empty. Would that help allow an "inside the house" install ? Seeing in other threads that install dates are in December… any recommendations on what to do? Can't wait until December to get Internet! Thanks

WNY Copper Retirement Notice and question

$

I see Verizon has posted a notice of Copper Retirement dated September 9, 2019 for most of the remaining wire centers in Western NY. Implementation Date: On or after September 16, 2020 Planned Network Change(s) will occur at all remaining locations in the following wire centers in New York Description of the planned network change(s): Verizon intends to retire the copper facilities at all remaining locations in the one hundred eleven (111) wire centers listed above. Verizon has deployed or plans to deploy its fiber-to-the-premises network in these areas and intends to provide services over a fiber network infrastructure. Updating our network from copper to fiber benefits our customers because of fiber’s resiliency and reliability, especially in inclement weather. Fiber also provides our customers with expanded capabilities to grow with current bandwidth demands for their home or business. Description of reasonably foreseeable impact(s) of the planned change(s): After the retirement of the copper facilities, Verizon will: (1) no longer offer services over copper facilities; and (2) cease maintaining the copper facilities. To help ensure an orderly transition, Verizon may require customers and interconnecting entities to migrate services off of copper facilities well before the copper retirement implementation date. I am trying to understand what that means. In some of the previous Copper Retirement notices it listed specific addresses that would be converted over to fiber-to-the-premises. This one lists "all remaining locations in the wire center." Does that mean the rest of the customers being served out of that wire center will be converted over to F-T-T-P? I am asking because my father has DSL and copper phone out of one of the wire centers with copper being retired. In asking Verizon through Verizon Direct, they have been vague by saying if he received a communication from Verizon then he will be converted over to FIOS or if fiber is going to be offered at his location then eventually it will be converted. I am sure that the entire footprint of the wire center will not necessarily receive F-T-T-P, but I would assume the current Verizon customers that have copper services coming out of those offices will be converted over to fiber. That is how I am understanding it. Does anyone know if that is correct? In other words, if someone has copper services coming out of one of the wire centers that is retiring copper, does Verizon have to convert you over to fiber? They can't just cancel the service and shut it off without offering something else, can they?

anyone have success in avoiding the "speed upgrade fee"?

Looking to up my bandwidth to above 75mbps - but it will require an ONT replacement. Being a long time customer (since it was first available in NJ), with 17 months left on my current contract, already have the newest router (E3100 bought from Verizon), and more than willing to pay additional monthly fees... I was hoping that they could waive the upgrade fee. So far, no such dice. Has anyone been able to avoid the upgrade fee, or is it a "is what it is" situation. Thanks in advance.

How many change their DNS servers from Fios default?

And if you do change them why, exactly, and what are the best alternatives? A couple years ago I tried Google and then Open DNS, but didn't find any difference between those and the Fios defaults. Anyway, just wondering. Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend.

FIos Functionality with Netgear Nighthawk X6S Router.

I've tried to read up about this as extensively as possible, but I'm still not getting everything right here, i guess.. Basically, I don't seem to have a Fios Functionality with my third party router. Basically, my Channel Guide and On Demand functions don't work when I tried to make the switch to a better router. Here's what I'm working with.. My Quantum Gateway had a coax and an ethernet cable plugged into. From what I've read, I didn't think I would need a MoCA Adapter. I released the DHCP lease and turned off the default Fios Wifi Networks. I then plugged that Ethernet cable into the new router. I left the coax cable plugged into the Quantum Gateway, as the STB in the bedroom would not work without it plugged in. Finally, I ran an ethernet from the LAN port of the Netgear Router to the WAN port of the Quantum Gateway. Did I miss a step here? I've tried to read as many forum posts about this as I can about this, but maybe there's something that went a little over my head and I missed?

Replacing G1100 with a moca brige only

This weekend I am replacing the G100 with a ER-4... Thinking about this..Is it possible to replace a G1100 with just a Moca bridge (Actionetec ECB6200S02 (2.0) or goCoax WF-803M (2.5) - these are moca bonded)? but "just" using one of the coax connectors for this unit (IN) to serve the house connections? the G110 has a bi-directional coax connector but I see these moca adapter have 2 coax connectors... is it possible to use the 'IN' coax connector to serve (see picture)? Reason for this is to be able to hide the moca adapter and smaller foot print than the G1100.

Are you letting it expire or signing up prior? Wonder which would get a better deal? I am currently in the triple plan with Gig, ultimate TV and 2 phone lines. I have all the premium channels currently but looks, like I will lose the when I renew. Paying $262/month and don’t really want to pay more...suggestions?

[Pricing] my 100/100 just got $15 more

i read the bill and no where it says the increase is because of "contract" expires. I thought there is no contract but maybe promotion is over? So I don't know but I could only guess. I chatted with a rep and she didn't say the reason either. But in the end she says she can do something called "mix and match" I don't think I am mixing or matching anything but she says now with 200/200 i got to pay $50 plus change, essentially less than or about the same what I used to pay which was 55.55 a month all along. When I got the 70.55 bill I didn't like it especially they keep saying in this challenging time on their ad ... we are going to increase your bill by $15 quietly hoping that you don't mind.

Need help with HE Tunnel

$

I recently switched over to FIOS from Optimum where I had a working HE 4to6 Tunnel. Was hoping that FIOS natively supported IPv6 but it doesn't. Tried to setup a new tunnel with my new FIOS IP and I keep getting a failure: IP is not ICMP pingable. Please make sure ICMP is not blocked. If you are blocking ICMP, please allow 66.220.2.74 through your firewall. Connecting through a VPN and their IP returns: IP is a potential tunnel endpoint. My firewall rules allow ICMP pings, and it was working fine setting the tunnel up with the Optimum IP. Can anyone help me with this?
