I have a G1100 router and 2 WCB3000N network extenders. I've had this setup with 1 extender for a few years. I added the second extender a year ago, and it's been working fine up until recently.
In the past couple of weeks, both network extenders are continuously boot looping. Meaning they will connect, then power cycle, then connect, then power cycle. Unplugging and replugging does not resolve.
Both network extenders bootloop even with the coax disconnected. Seems unlikely that both extenders would go bad at the same time.
I tried factory resetting the extenders using the reset button, but given that they don't stay on very long between reboots, I'm not sure the reset is taking hold.
Any ideas on why this is happening?

[Networking] G1100 (and MI424WR) NAT configuration
Greetings,
I want to segment one portion of my home network (ethernet + MoCA LAN) from the rest using a second G1100 -- I have a G1100 in place as my ONT-facing router. I have a tentative configuration in place but the second G1100 is also using NAT so the machines on the separate segment are getting double-NATted. The double-NAT is causing some performance issues. I've been searching this site, other sites, and related documentation for the past couple of days trying to find out if there's a way to turn off NAT so that the G1100 functions as a pure router but so far have come up empty. Does anyone know of a way to turn off NAT on the G1100? If not, is there a way to turn off NAT on a MI424WR rev I?
I am aware that I could use a non-VZ router to segment the other LAN and press the second G1100 into service as a MoCA bridge, but I'd like to minimize the number of devices if possible. I'm also aware that I could replace the primary G1100 with a non-VZ router. I don't have any spare non-VZ routers on the bench right now to execute either of those options and I'd like to get this working sooner rather than later.
Thanks!

No in home tech visits due to Covid
Heard from a tech. Company wide, techs are not permitted to enter the home for any reason now. They will be dispatched and remain in their vehicle and video chat if normal phone CSRs cannot help. They will also not be able to collect old equipment.
So now is not the time call 800Verizon for anything other than critical issues (service out).
Hope everyone stays safe.

Outlook can't send verizon.net emails, using AOL mail servers.
I have an old verizon.net email account that Vz dumped on AOL several years back.
Drat... posted this in the FIOS TV forum by accident.
Recently a Mac running Office 2011 stopped sending my verizon.net emails via the AOL servers.
Sending emails gave an Unknown Error 150. I am aware that AOL is getting tighter with security so I looked over the recommended settings and verified I was using the correct settings. I also tried toggling the "Use less secure applications" feature on AOL off and back on, and found out that once it was turned off, you can't turn it back on even though they stated the option was not going away until July.
Then I found out once that "Less secure applications" option was no longer available, my Outlook 2019 PC failed to check or send mail.
So, I started using the One Time Use passwords on AOL and assigning the Mac and PC their own passwords for AOL. Now, both can receive email, but both fail to send.
They are using the recommended smpt.aol.com port 465 with SSL. Just to be clear, Mac 2011 could send and receive emails up until about the 3rd of this month, and the PC could still do both until the less secure apps option was taken away from me.
Does anyone know what has changed recently to break Outlook and AOL email?
My work around is to relay outgoing emails through another server, but I would prefer not to do that.

[Router] Issues with the G3100, but not with the G1100
I am sharing an issue I encountered with the G3100.
Issue: A Hurricane Electric 6in4 tunnel on an Asus router functions with a G1100 router in the environment, but it fails with the G3100.
I do know that Verizon FiOS does not support IPv6 in most locations natively via the G1100 and the G3100 routers. The configuration exists on an ASUS router which is inside the home network. Via the configuration on the ASUS router I am tunneling IPv6 traffic within IPv4 packets. This configuration functions correctly with the G1100 in the environment, but it fails to function when I replace the G1100 with the G3100.
I can demonstrate that with the G1100 in place with the factory default configuration the data flows properly. If I swap in the G3100 the data flow stops. I do account for the possibility that the external IP address changes. I verify with Hurricane Electric that the configuration contains the proper IP address. My best guess is that the G3100 does not properly process Protocol 41 traffic. During the reset process on the G3100 one IPv6 ICMP packet did traverse the G3100. I did receive one reply. I had a steady ping to www.google.com 2607:f8b0:4006:812::2004. Also this event has been observed during a reboot of the G3100.
From Hurricane Electric: https://ipv6.he.net/certification/faq.php
If you are using a NAT (Network Address Translation) appliance, please make sure it allows and forwards IP protocol 41.
What is IP Protocol 41?
IP Protocol 41 is one of the Internet Protocol numbers. Within the IPv4 header, the IPv4 Protocol field is set to 41 to indicate an encapsulated IPv6 packet.
>>>> It appears the G3100 does not function properly with protocol 41.
My expectation is that the G3100 should function at least as well as the G1100.
I realize when new equipment is deployed there exists a period of time during which issues are discovered and remediated.
I also am cognizant Verizon is deploying equipment that caters primarily to Joe and Mary and X consumers, not IT professionals.
I posted the issue within the Verizon Direct forum. As noted above I am publicly sharing this information.

Remove inactive devices from G1100
Is there a way to remove inactive devices from the G1100 router's table? I see all of my devices, both active and inactive. But I can't see where I can delete them.
The table is getting full, I'd want to delete the inactive ones.
Also, what IP address does the G1100's DHCP server start at by default? Can you change it so you can add more devices to your network?

[ONT] Nokia G-821M-A: 11 months or less of usable life? Disposable?
The extremely condensed history of my FiOS life:
July 2017: Got FiOS for the first time. Had immediate issues that were mostly due to misconfiguration. The original install ONT was Nokia G-821M-A.
October(ish) 2017 - September(ish) 2018: Smooth sailing.
September(ish) 2018: Started experiencing packet loss from the ONT. Started calling Verizon support. Went round and round with trying various things -- rebooting ONT, technician reconfiguration of ONT, new router, new cabling, plugging a PC directly into the ONT, etc. Nothing really "stuck" for long -- the symptom might temporarily be fixed for a few hours, but it would always come back. The packet loss manifests as momentary hiccups or drops in the PHY of the Ethernet, on only one of the two ports. The TV over MoCA is fine.
December 2018-January 2019: Got them to take down my original ONT and install a new one. They unbolted the entire box from the house and put a new one up. Unfortunately it was the same model, a Nokia G-821M-A, but on the plus side, it was brand new. Replacing my ONT fixed my problem "for good" (or so I thought) -- I didn't have a single packet dropped for basically the entirety of 2019, all the way up to a few days before New Years.
January 2019 - late December 2019: Smooth sailing.
This week: The problem is starting again. The symptoms are identical to last time. The Ethernet PHY disconnects every couple seconds. Here's a characteristic PingPlotter trace (10 minute interval): https://i.imgur.com/iUaGu8g.png
Looks like I'll have to get Verizon to replace my ONT yearly until they come out with a new model that doesn't break once a year. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
It isn't the low temperatures in winter, because my new ONT survived the coldest part of the Maryland winter like a champ (with temps getting down to negative Fahrenheit) without a single packet lost. Right now it's 45 Fahrenheit and it's dropping every few seconds.
It isn't the high temperatures in summer, because it endured the entirety of the hot Maryland summer with temps as high as 102 F and was completely fine in the fall after it cooled off.
It isn't the rain, because our wettest season is spring, and it had no problems throughout spring and summer 2019 where we did get a fair bit of rain -- definitely more than we're getting right now.
Either it's calendar-based and designed to break once a year, or just very poorly designed. Any other theories?
Things I've tried (repeatedly, with both the original ONT and this new one now that it's also starting to act up):
1. Rebooting the ONT by unplugging it and plugging it back in (the power is inside the house).
2. Directly plugging a known-good computer with a known-good Ethernet adapter and cable directly into the ONT, bypassing all intermediary routing equipment I own.
3. Re-seating the Ethernet cable connecting between the ONT and my router. Anyway, this is done as part of testing step 2, and the problem is still observed both before and after.
4. Using a FiOS Quantum Gateway. Yes, they insisted I dig it out of a closet and plug it in to test. No, it didn't help. It's like me calling up to complain I have no water and they insist I install a special "certified" faucet in my bathroom to make sure it's not a clog in the faucet, when I've already verified that water is not flowing through the mains to my house.
My networking equipment when things are running smoothly is enterprise grade. My current primary router is a Cisco RV345. The problem is definitely not my downstream kit or computers (see step 2 of "things I've tried").
Sending this post with my router being powered by an AT&T 4G LTE hotspot (a Nighthawk MR100; the thing is a beast for what it is). Can't wait to get FiOS going again; the trick is going to be convincing Verizon that I need a third ONT, and maybe see if they're willing to try a newer model if one exists in their inventory.

[ONT] 10+ yr old ONT. Motorola ont1000gj2
Hi. I have a pretty old ont at home for my fios service. Its a Motorola model: ont1000gj2.
What is the newest ont out there for FIOS gig service? Will I be able to get one from Verizon and just swap it out my self. It is a fairly simple thing to swap.
Any info about getting a new ont would be appreciated.

Upgraded to gigabit with existing ONT I-211M-D
Here's a happy FIOS upgrade story.
Long time FIOS customer. My contract for 50Mbps service (don't judge) recently expired. VZ's online prices weren't very good, which made me do the unthinkable...I started contemplating (but dreading) a switch to Comcast because their online pricing was very competitive. I had to give VZ a chance though, so I chatted online with a VZ rep who gave me a 2-year deal with Gigabit FIOS (plus my phone and TV) for 15$/month less than my old 50Mbps contract. Couldn't say yes fast enough.
The details in the order said they were waiting for hardware until mid-April. I had declined the VZ router so I assume they were planning to install a new ONT. With the COVID situation shutting down VZ in-house installs I knew that would take a long time. I did some research and saw that while my I-211M-D ONT is not a current model, it is Gigabit-capable (and hasn't had problems in all my years of it chugging away in my basement). I used the Verizon Direct forum and asked whether they could do something remotely to switch to gigabit with my current ONT. Within two hours, I was getting gigabit speeds. Roughly 920Mbps download and a little bit faster upload. Wow!
I did have to direct-attach my computer to the ONT (bypassing my router) to get that throughput. I now realize my trustworthy TP-Link Archer C7 running OpenWRT can't handle more than about 500Mbps, and I'm doing some research on that. I also still have 100Mbps ethernet to one of my wireless access points, so I now have the good fortune of working through some self-induced bottlenecks inside my house.
Take aways for me:
1) I'm sure it's been said before; don't assume VZ's online pricing is the best they can do. I didn't have to haggle at all on the chat with VZ, I just politely asked what they could do for me.
2) A little bit of basic research on my part enabled me to ask an informed question on the VZ direct forum.
3) The Verizon Direct forum is an incredible resource. I can't imagine how this would have turned out had I needed to go through all the circles of hell by calling VZ on the phone. Kudos to everyone involved in that forum.
NNTR - Just wanted to pass along a story with a good ending.
PS - Just saw the manufacture date on my existing ONT - June 2008. So I've probably had FIOS, and that ONT, since late 2008.

[Networking] Do 3rd party Wi-Fi extenders work with Quantum Gateway's?
I've read some confusing things about Wi-Fi extenders and Fios. So if I had the G1100 Gateway router, will that ONLY work with Verizon extenders (namely the Actiontec WCB6200Q and WCB3000N)? I know that they will inherit the Gateway's config and you don't have to do anything.
However, 3rd party extenders should work as well no? Even if you have to config them yourself (big deal). i.e., your phone will only "see" one wifi network seemlessly, i.e. I don't have to switch access points on my phone depending on what floor of the house I'm on, as I currently have to do.

Leviton & Ooma
There's an old post by a guy who wanted to do exactly what I want to do. He has the same setup as me, Verizon with a Leviton distribution panel.
I have FIOS services including Verizon Digital Voice but with the new a la carte, Verizon offers, I want to port my landline over to Ooma. His question (which he didn't get a great reply) is mine. Would I pull the wires on the demarc on the Leviton panel for my Verizon line then plug in the Ooma to any jack on the panel for voice then rj-45 to my switch for internet connection? I think that's correct. This would easily allow a behind the scenes setup and more importantly enable Ooma voice on all phones. Many thanks!

Fios (NY 11356) offline 2 nights in a row @1 am for 30+ minutes
Just posting this as heads up & see if anyone else nearby noticed similar pattern. Doing our part, stay-at-home/shelter in place for past 5 weeks and noticed - without advance notice/warning - that our 200/200 Fios only service has gone offline around 1 am, two nights in a row, for at least 30+ minutes (2 nights ago for 45+ minutes, gave up & access broadband over cellular network - it was back up in the morning after going to sleep) Unable to do any work remotely as I need to have connectivity. I understood that network is heavily burdened and traffic is heavy, but what is going on.

[Networking] IPv6 working!
I noticed that my Quantum router got an upgrade recently, and now allows IPv6. I was (finally!!) able to get it to work. I logged into the router administration and turned on IPv6.
At this time, I have to set the DNS on my Mac to Google's or CloudFlare's DNS servers to make everything work, since I think Verizon's default DNS servers for FiOS aren't completely ready yet. But when I log onto my router (at 192.168.1.1), it shows public IP addresses of BOTH IPv4 and IPv6 now. I pass all the tests at ipv6-test.com and test.ipv6.com except having a reverse DNS name. I can reach ipv6 only sites.
Finally, no Hurricane Electric tunnel needed.
When I have a chance, I'll check to ensure this doesn't mess up Netflix or HBO NOW.

[Pricing] NEED your advice on RATES for 1 Gbps double play two phone lines
I'm about to commit to migrate from copper POTS to FIOS and need your negotiating advice to get best possible rates from Vz for the longest period. I'm in NYC, upper west side, Manhattan, zip 10023. My current CO (for POTS - DSL) is West 73rd Street
What we have now: Three Vz copper POTS phone lines with three different accounts, all in the snobby 212 area code. Two are mine in my name, of which one has our current DSL (7Mbps down, 786kbps up). The third is my wife's in her name and is very important for her business.
What we want: FIOS @ 1Gbps with lowest possible ping and buffer bloat, with "Double-play" for internet and phone.
- We're not so interested in TV and we'll get TV later from "cut the cord" internet, like Netflicks?? (We don't know anything about TV - haven't had a TV or video recorder in almost 16 years.)
- Important detail: We will keep only two of our three 212 POTS telephone numbers in the FIOS - one of mine (the one that has the DSL now), and my wife's. We'll drop our third line (or I'll migrate it first to GoogleVoice or something.)
--- Vz says the second phone line in the FIOS as FDV costs an extra $9.99/month on the double-play bill plus fees and taxes.
--- Vz says that we can keep our two old 212 tel numbers in the FIOS as FDV but cannot keep the two separate names on the numbers. When we call out, the recipient's caller ID must see the same name on both numbers. (UNLESS we pay a LOT more money for a truly separate account.) That's a minor problem. Worst case, they'll both show my wife's name on outgoing calls for business purposes.
---- VZ says keeping my wife's tel number unpublished costs $5 more per month + fees and taxes. That's annoying.
- So far, VZ says it will NOT hit us with ANY equipment charges or installation/initiation/upfront anything fees. Vz says it will supply the WiFi router ("Galaxy"?) without extra charge. Possibly because I'm coming from DSL - not sure.
---- What ONT and router should I ask for?

[Router] G3100 does not currently support wired Remote Desktop Connection
With both parents and three kids homebound and zooming for work/school I wanted to upgrade my G1100 router to G3100 to get better wireless access to extended regions of our house although I work from home using the router's wired connection to my desktop.
For my work I need to connect to two wired laptops via Windows 10 Remote Desktop Connection so I can use one set of monitors, keyboard and mouse, not to mention greatly expand the windows desktop real estate via rdp. This approach to use one or more closed local laptops like servers across the gigabit connection has worked flawlessly for years using the G1100 however I ran into issues using the G3100.
Initially, after picking up the router at my local Verizon outlet, the install went fine and I was able to use both the wired and wireless connection with the latter stronger than ever in the farthest reaches of the house. But then a few days later the Remote Desktop Connection suddenly failed to connect. With a call to Fios Technical Support who looped in a specialist from the router group, we reset the router a couple of times and even tried port forwarding of 3389 but it was a no go and the tech suggested I wait for firmware update 1.5.x.x but no timeline was provided.
In hindsight, I found it odd that the firmware version at the back of the modem stated 1.3.6.4 that seemed to initially work, but after the router was reset it was rolled back to 1.3.6.27 (said to be the latest release by the support tech) and it no longer worked. They sent me a second G3100 router but it had firmware 1.3.6.12 loaded so I didn’t bother trying it and returned both routers since I was renting and reinstalled the G1100 that worked instantly.
Any additional insights, easy workarounds, or firmware update news are greatly appreciated.

1/3 of download speed correct upload speed
Anyone else with gig seeing today downloads roughly 300 and upload around 880? I have reset ont+router and unable to surpass 300 maybe only for a few min then drops back down to around 250.
↧
slow download speed, correct upload speed
My router is an eero Pro, it runs a speed test daily. Back in Feb I canceled my tv service, the email I received says tv and 1 gig canceled and then on a separate line it says 1 gig added. My router which shows summaries by week shows that my download speed dropped from 1 gig to 25mbps that week, so although my equipment might be to blame, I highly suspect that something went wrong in the ordering process.
So I talked to verizon multiple times. They reboot the ont, they have me powering down the ont and router, the speedtest on eero and me running speedtest.net still show 25 mbps download. They say I need a verizon router so I hook up my actiontec with the same download issue and then they say the actiontec is too old and doesn,t count.
They say I need to do a direct connection to the ont from my pc, so I hook up my raspberry pi but since their speedtest doesn't seem to work with chromium I had to use speedtest.net which again got 25mbps. I call them back and they say that it doesn't count, I have to use a pc. So I get an usb to ethernet adapter for my laptop and plug it directly in and the verizon speedtest still says 25mbps. Now they say I need a G1100 so that they can see, so I get the G1100 and run the verizon speedtest with the same issue but when I call them they don't seem to care about the G1100.
Anyhow, according to the last person I spoke with, she said she tested to the ont and the I was getting the provisioned speed, so they told me I have to wait a few months (june) until they can send out a tech.
Wondering if there is anything else I can do? I am pretty sure the guy will come in June and tell me everything is fine, he will probably call in and then someone will figure out the ordering system changed somethign when I changed my services.

Return to FiOS requires new ONT?
Had FiOS Ethernet 2 years ago and decided to return. Thought they could turn the ONT back on and would be good to go. However they are saying requires new ONT although only going for the 200mbs service. Rep said best they could do is 3 down 1 up without the new ONT which makes no sense. I'm sure I had 50/50 previously.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
