Can I connect two WCB3000Ns to each other?

I have two Actiontec WCB3000N units. Can they communicate directly with each other? For instance, can I hook one directly to my router and coax and effectively use it as the sending unit, to connect with the other unit somewhere else in my home? Or do I need something else like the WCB2500C (or a Quantum router) to do that?

[Router] Need specific port in 192.168.1.1 for DNS issue - GOOD STUFF HERE

I have a tough issue, but there are some goodies here for you, so bear with me. To start and as background - there's a great service that encrypts your DNS lookup requests so that nobody - not Verizon and not Google and not man-in-the-middle bad guys - can see where you are trying to go when you're connecting to the web. It's called dnscrypt-proxy, and it can be installed on your PC by using an app called Simple DNSCrypt. There's a superb article on ars techinca that explains everything about this in great detail: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/04/how-to-keep-your-isps-nose-out-of-your-browser-history-with-encrypted-dns/ Also, you can download and get technical info about Simple DNSCrypt - which helps you install and configure dnscrypt-proxy on a Win machine - from github at https://github.com/bitbeans/SimpleDnsCrypt (Scroll down a bit.) Now - here's my issue: I am using dnscrypt-proxy on my Win 10 Pro 64-bit machine, and I used Simple DNSCrypt to configure it to point only to cloudflare's new, secure DNS resolver at 1.1.1.1. All good so far. But on every reboot of my PC, I am getting an Event 1014 Warning (in event viewer) that "Name resolution for the name _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.fios-router.home. timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." NOTE FIRST that this is an IP address in "fios-router.home", which is my Quantum G1100 router. NOTE SECOND that I do NOT get this Event 1014 Warning when I turn off dnscrypt-proxy!! So, probably, dnscrypt-proxy is trying to find the DNS lookup at cloudflare 1.1.1.1 but is not finding it because my PC is actually trying to connect to my router, and cloudflare certainly does NOT have DNS lookup info for stuff INSIDE my own network. I have done some digging, and I probably need to set up a special FORWARDING parameter in my dnscrypt-proxy that forwards all queries to "fios-router.home" to my Quantum G1100 at 192.168.1.1. (See this page on the wiki for dnscrypt-proxy about forwarding: https://github.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-proxy/wiki/Forwarding ) AND HERE'S MY QUESTION: Don't I need a suffix or port number in 192.168.1.1 for queries to "_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.fios-router.home"? I THINK I SHOULD FORWARD THESE QUERIES TO 192.168.1.1:something , yes? BUT WHAT IS THE :something? Thanks. Hope you enjoyed this post. But I need the answer.

[Networking] Duplicate Port Forwarding in Verizon Router

I am looking to duplicate the port forwarding rules in my verizon router on my new third party router that is going to be my main router going forward. One issue, all the STBs seem to have a strange addition in their port forwarding that I dont know how to duplicate IT has the IP of the STB:Port then under Applications and Port Forwarded it has tr69_001 and tcp any to a port...what the heck is the tr69_001? its in there for tr69_002 / 3 / 4 / 5 to.,...how do I duplicate that on a third party router?

Access Points setup off of Verizon FIOS Quantum Router

If I have a seperate wireless system (that can act as a router or just access points), what are the steps I need to do on the Verizon Router to get them working? How close or off am I with these steps 1. Connect up the Wireless Router / Device and setup in Access Point Mode 2. Connect Access Point to Verizon Router LAN Port 3. Setup Access Point with same SSID and Wireless Security info as the Verizon Wireless Settings Even if I have to turn off the Verizon Wi-Fi, I still want the Verizon Router to provide IP Addresses to the Access Points as well as to the clients that connect....

For those who use their own router, which one do you use?

When(not if) I come back to Verizon Fios(for internet only), I think I would like to use my own router and thus, not have to pay router rental fees to Verizon. Which one do you use? Also, I have one of the older BPON ONT. Will they automatically change it to a GPON ONT with an ethernet connection if I order the 100/100 service?

Magic $10 price increase

Folks I have had FiOS for many years, and I flipped into an internet only ($39.99) for 1 year under spouse. First months bill was $42.49 (I live in NY). This is month 2 bill and they added $10 to it. So I get on with chat and after like 30 minutes they figure out that the autopay discount was "disabled" for 20 days in the month. Of course I did not touch it, and the previous bill and the new one are both paying via auto pay. Has anyone had this issue, and know WHY something like this happened? The offshore chat is pretty much useless, they will provide a "1-time" credit of $10, but I am not going to waste 30 minutes every month if this is a problem w/ their billing systems. Funnily enough they tried to upsell me HBO Now for $15. I said if you can't even get your billing correct why would I add a service that I can get directly from HBO for the same price and not have to worry about billing errors.

[Networking] Can I reuse my Quantum Router for ethernet over coax?

I had a Fios setup containing a Quantum router along with several Actiontec WCB300N's. I just got rid of Verizon and am replacing it with Optimum (basic cable modem + router setup). I have another router I was planning on using. I have two questions: 1. It would be great to keep using the WCB3000N's, but I realized that without the Quantum router I'd need to buy a moca network adapter such as the ECB6200. CAN I nstead use the quantum router I already have to do this (since it was doing this previously)? I assumed I'd hook up the lan from my router to the quantum wan, but then how would I configure it to achieve this? 2. Would it be easier to just keep using the Quantum as my router (attached to the new cable modem)? How do I configure it (physically and software config) now that the internet is coming in via lan instead of moca coax from the ONT?

[Networking] IPv6 working!

I noticed that my Quantum router got an upgrade recently, and now allows IPv6. I was (finally!!) able to get it to work. I logged into the router administration and turned on IPv6. At this time, I have to set the DNS on my Mac to Google's or CloudFlare's DNS servers to make everything work, since I think Verizon's default DNS servers for FiOS aren't completely ready yet. But when I log onto my router (at 192.168.1.1), it shows public IP addresses of BOTH IPv4 and IPv6 now. I pass all the tests at ipv6-test.com and test.ipv6.com except having a reverse DNS name. I can reach ipv6 only sites. Finally, no Hurricane Electric tunnel needed. When I have a chance, I'll check to ensure this doesn't mess up Netflix or HBO NOW.

Verizon updated complex's Fios wiring to support 1Gbps. But when?

In late February noticed were sent to everyone in my apartment complex saying that Verizon was coming in to each apartment to upgrade Fios capacity to support 1Gbps service. They completed the service within the first few days of March, but it still shows that the highest speed available here is 50Mbps. This is really frustrating, as Fios availability was one of the reasons I moved into this complex three-and-a-half years ago(at the time not having explicitly asked "Is Verizon's service in this building slower than in all other buildings in the area?"). I know they did the upgrade, because there's a new box in the closet by my front door, and there was a notification on my door. I'm just curious when the new speeds will be available? Is there a way to find out? I've gotten on Verizon's order support chat and they never give me any useful information, just trying to sell me the 50Mbps service as if it's better than Comcast's 250Mbps.

Self Organizing Network Setting

Does anyone see a performance improvement having SON (Self Organizing Network) settings on or off? My understanding is the 2.4 and 5 wifi signals are managed by the router between devices so that the better signal is constantly sent, maximizing the best signal for each device. However in use, when enabled, I see only the one signal and no device ever seems to get the 5 band, even a foot away from the router, based on using a internet speed test of the separate 2.4, 5 and combined SON managed systems. With a separate 5 signal, my iphone can get 300mb near the router and below 100 speeds on 2.4. But with SON enabled, it never seems to get 5 at all as it hovers near that lower 100 speed threshold. This has made me set up a new system install with the 2 networks separate and SON off. Is that the best approach with some PCs or TV device on the 5 and other items that roam around the house on the 2.4 - under the theory that its the only way to get better speeds on the 5 bad for the stationary close devices? Thanks.

Is this FIOS on nearby utility pole?

Hello, I have been in touch with Verizon customer service and also have checked availability for our address for FIOS service and they say it is not available. I am sort of skeptical and think this might be a database issue, because neighbors nearby on the same road have the service and right in front of our property, I see the following devices on the utility lines. Would anyone that have knowledge about such devices, be able to identify whether any of these are FIOS? These images are actually taken from an online maps service so they are a bit grainy, but I will take clearer pictures myself if needed. [att=1] [att=2] [att=3] Thank you.

Verizon cracks me up sometimes

So contract expiring May 6th. I want to drop tv and phone and just keep gigabit internet. So I call and say what I want to do. I'm expecting the price to be $79.99. They tell me that it'll be 114. I say thats not right, and say that my other option is to just disconnect everything and re-up under my name (current is under wife's name from the cancel resign up shell game 2 years ago). The rep says, yup, I was going to recommend you do that since I can't match that price. So I say ok thats what I'll do. So i open a new browser tab and start the sign up under my name process. As I'm doing it the rep proceeds to tell me exactly what to set the self-install date to and what we'll set the disconnect date to (same date) to avoid any interruptions. I find it hilarious that they will actually tell the rep to tell the customer to do this instead of just setting the price and moving on. Seems it would actually cost them more money to issue a disconnect, send out a mailer to send dvr back, and then the work to setup a new account. I'm happy with the result it just is so strange how they do business.

Well the original section is locked so I decide to open another one. I know NetworkGuy created the original so thank you my friend. Well I finally seeing the installation of the conduits for the fiber installation inside my building and the tech are working late hours . Sometimes they stop by 9:30 pm. If things progress this way they might finish by next Monday. I'm so ready to take all my cablevision gear to them

[ONT] Coax from ont to fqg and speed

Hi everyone. There are some really good deals on internet speeds for me when checking online. It is impossible to run Ethernet from my ont to the fqg. A Twitter rep told me I can get 400 Mbps over coax. Will a tech provision me for that speed? If not I also have 100/100, 150/150, 200/200 available so what is the highest speed they will give me using coax?

Gateway router firmware killed extenders, how to fix?

$

I have Fios gigabit with ONT using coax to Quantum Gateway router with ethernet back to a splitter and two hardwired extenders off a splitter. All are new hardware recently procured. They were all working well until last week when the extenders stopped receiving a signal. I've had Verizon techs out here three times and get the same story... Verizon pushed a firmware update to the router that is causing problems with the extenders and the issue is well known. They will roll back my firmware on the router when they batch process firmware modifications at 6pm to correct the problem. Every time no fix. What do I do? Should I call the local tech office and demand they bring new equipment to the house and just replace this stuff? I'm assuming Verizon isn't stupid enough to be continuing to push that firmware if the problem is well known... is that giving them too much credit? Should I switch to third party hardware instead? If so, how to even get started with that? I had some custom wiring done to remove a lot of visible wires and the network cable guy (who was great) suggested I consider Ubiquity equipment as an alternative. In all my many years as a Verizon customer I've never had this level of problem with the need to call them so many times without resolution. Clearly adding the extenders as I did creates a dependence on them not screwing up the software on the router that interacts with them. But, jeez. Thanks for any suggestions on fixing the current issue or going with a new configuration.

Getting FIOs ONT for apartment 3rd floor

I have a two questions. 1.Does anyone have a picture for an ONT for apartment use? I just need the size so i can make space for it on the wall. Does anyone know the make and Model of the ONT. If someone has a picture of an ONT and dimensions for an apartment in NYC that would be helpful. 2. Finally how many amps does it take from the wall socket? Thanks in advance.
