Has anyone here renewed with the 15 per month off for 24 months discount ? If so, can you tell me how it shows up on your bill ? Does it say 5 off of each triple play service or does the discount all come off the internet ? The reason I ask is because I get reimbursed for my internet portion. IF someone could post a scanned image of that part of the bill i would be very greatful !! Tnx.

Switching: Satellite/Cable to FiOS - Use Existing Wiring?

$

Hi, guys. FiOS finally became available in my part of Brooklyn, but I'm concerned about the whole switching over process because I just had the siding on my house done and I don't want to drill any more holes into it. This is how my setup is so far: I have Dish Network, and there are two active COAX cables that come down from the satellite: one that goes to my second floor and one that goes down to the first floor. The first floor one is split inside the house and goes to two TVs: living room and bedroom. The second one is an individual line that only goes to one TV. Optimum is my internet provider and has one line that goes to my bedroom, which is where the modem is connected. Now, here are my questions about this setup: 1. Would Verizon be able to use the existing wiring for TV, including the split line in the house? 2. Is it fine to have them "bring down" the cords from the roof where it is hooked up to satellite (e.g. splice from the lowest point and extend with their own wiring to the ONT)? 3. The Actiontec only needs the COAX to connect to the ONT, so could they reuse the line that Optimum has going into my bedroom? I would ask about where to instal the ONT because it needs an outlet, but I'm not even sure how to do that since I live in an attached row house. Hope you guys can help me out!

[Northeast] Just upgraded to 50/25 ....wireless speeds are terri

Just upgraded to FIOS Quantum 50/25 from 15/5. Connected via wireless and the speeds are like half of what it should be. Via speedtests, I get 20 up/ 18 down and I barely notice the differences. Connected by ethernet, I get 57/33. Is there anyway I can get that same speed over wifi? The firmware on my router (Actiontec MI424 WR Rev 4) is up to date. Is there any settings I can tweak?

[Northeast] FIOS 50/35 plan upload speed slow

Hello, I upgraded to 50/35 plan last weekend, hope to get faster upload speed. but both the speedtest.net and verizon speedtest shows I have 2Mbps upload speed. I have confirmed the ONT is provisioned to the 50/35 speed, also rebooted router several times. None of them helped. I haven't done a factory restore yet cause I use the MI424WR router as bridge and ASUS N16 as main WAN router. Is there any hint on what went wrong? Thanks a ton. Billy

Just an FYI, if you try to talk about it on their forums, they will delete it. I noticed that overnight, they deleted at least three threads in addition to a private support case I had. Don't expect much from them.

Anybody running concurrent connections?

I am currently in tampa where Brighthouse and Verizon are pretty much competitors with each other, I moved here about 1 week ago. Here is the deal: I currently have Brighthouse 90/10 connection and I only pay $50.00 a month ( its cheap since HOA picks up the rest , and honestly its minimal in the big scheme of things) I get real nice speeds around 100/11 , so nothing to fret about, but since i am a virtual employee with my current employer , I do have a lot of work I download Do I max out the current connection? actually I do sometimes, I usually download images around 5-10gb each every other day for work. Work has offered to pay around $150 for both my internet AND work telephone. Especially since I do a lot of file transfers. So the question is has anyone mix and matches 2 providers? And how did you do it? I've been thinking of getting Of the following: 1) Build a machine and make a Zenload balancer or I could sneak into work and get myself a Zyxel Zywall USG50 then load balance the connections with failover for work. I know this is overkill but I can take advantage of work paying for FIOS ( Verizon is their preferred provider and they have confirmed that they will pay for it, for them to pay my $50.00 is like going through 1000 hoops) Any help is appreciated on this :)

[Southwest] Anyone know about FIOS avail in this part of L.A. (b

Recently moved to a place just off the 405 by Church/Ovada. The Verizon web site shows no FIOS avail here. But I don't exactly trust the web site. For example, it also says that DSL is 0.5-1mbps. Meanwhile, I know that previous tenant had 7mbps service. In addition, the Verizon facility is literally half a block away. There is a huge ad for FIOS plastered on it, albeit intended to be seen from the freeway. Not really sure who to ask for such local info though. Anyone know about this area?

Right now I have the Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I with the wireless radio turn off. An Asus RT-N10+ in AP mode is connected to the Actiontec to provide WiFi coverage for the whole house. The wifi signal in my basement is weak. I am planning to do the following to improve it. May you tell me whether I have got it right or not? There is FiOS coax wiring in the basement already. I’ll get an Actiontec ECB2200V and hook it up down there. I have another Asus RT-N10+ to spare. I’ll put the 2nd Asus in AP mode (change its IP to one other than the Actiontec’s and turn off its DHCP) and then hook it to the ECB2200. Will this work?

Anyone know anything about this new option Bridge Hardware Acceleration? I am pretty sure it's "new" but i could have missed it. I found it at this page Network (Home/Office) Properties under the subnet mask. I did some searches and found nothing that mentions it.

[Southeast] Extending network - 2nd router

I followed the instructions in faq 12506 to add a 2nd router (Linksys WRT54GS). My Verizon supplied router (Westell 9100EM) is way at one of the house and one digital STB is at the far other end and won't pull the guide as it can't connect due to poor signal quality. TV works fine over coax to STB. Anyway, I set the Linksys to use a different IP of 192.168.1.2 and left the 9100EM as the default 192.168.1.1. I disabled DHCP on the Linksys and changed the 9100 to distribute 11 - 254. I've got coax to the 9100, then cat5 (about a 3 foot run for easy testing) from LAN 2 on the 9100 to LAN2 on Linksys. Nothing is connected to the Linksys WAN port. Logging into the 9100 from the PC connected to LAN 1 on the 9100 works and shows the Linksys as online with the expected IP. I can also log in to the Linksys from that same PC. So, finally, here's the issue: I tried to connect wirelessly to the Linksys via my smart phone. I supplied the WEP key and it tries to connect, but gets stuck trying to obtain an IP address. For some reason, the 2nd router isn't letting it obtain an address from the primary. The DHCP is disabled on the Linksys, but the configuration shows as automatic (DHCP). The status on the 9100 shows the Linksys as IP Address Source: Static. I tried to set the Linksys to static IP, but it required at least 1 DNS server entry, which I didn't know. The phone still connects to the 9100 just fine. I'm confused and probably am missing something obvious. I'm all ears. Networking isn't my area of expertise, so thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer. Attachments added to clarify my babbling.

Speed limited on a per connection basis.

I think FiOS limits upload on a per connection basis if the destination is another private IP (like not speedtest or a registered commercial IP). At around 2-3PM every day, single transfers from my machine at home on FiOS to my machine in my apartment on Time Warner slows down to a crawl at about 150KB/s per connection. By "per connection I mean if I start an FTP transfer from my machine on FiOS and my machine on Time Warner, each connection is hard capped at around 1.5Mbit, but if I start say, 10 transfers they all go at 1.5Mbit for a total of 15Mbit. I tested this with a friends in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Comcast, in Atlanta, Georgia on Comcast, and Chicago, Illinois on SBC. I've tried everything on my end from changing the machine, changing router, different FTP software, OS (you name it!) to try to fix this and I strongly believe that this is a FiOS thing. It affects any single upload connection I've tried like VPN, RDC, and FTP. All this is causing a bottleneck in my work and It's very irritating. Has anyone else experienced this?

[Northeast] Possible Coaix splitter problem

$

Currently have PDI 3WMS-5 splitter from Verizon, I think it is going bad, this is a 3 way splitter, balanced, with -6db at each leg and rated 5-1000mhz. I called Verizon and asked for a new splitter, no problem, they are sending me one, customer service could not tell me what the new splitter specs would be, only that it would have to be a 4 way instead of a 3 way, I have termination end caps for the empty leg. Anybody have any idea what they will be sending and if it specs out differently, what to hook up to what leg? I have 1 HD tv, 1 SD tv and the Actiontec router connected, the 2 tv's have about 15 ft. of coaix attached and the router has about 50 ft. of coaix attached. I can be more specific about the new splitter specs when I get it if that is going to help. Thanks Joe

[Northeast] New MI424WR GigE Rev I doesn't recognize my DLink Sw

I went to hook up my new FiOS MI424WR Rev1 GigE Wireless N Router that I bought from Verizon. My current one MI424WR Rev E has a cat 5 cable that runs from the second floor down to the first floor to a Dlnk 8 port switch and hooks up 2 PC's. They have internet access. After hooking up the new MI424WR Rev1 GigE Wireless N Router, same way as the MI424WR Rev1 GigE, it didn't recognize the ethernet cable that's connected to the switch. After spending 2 hours with both Verizon and Actiontec, Actiontec blamed the swtich. After telling the Actiontec it's not the switch because it works fine with the MI424WR Rev E he hung up! Any one have any thoughts why the MI424WR Rev1 GigE doesn't recognize the swtich?

Actiontec router reboots every 2 hours, Westell no DHCP

Hello, I've had Verizon FIOS service (tv/internet/phone) for several years, and it has worked pretty well so far, well, until recently. I had the Westell Router all these years, and never had any issues - no reboots nothing. Out of the blue, about 3 months or so ago, it stopped handing out DHCP addresses. Most of my devices are on a static IP, so those were not impacted, but a couple of devices required DHCP (roku, Lumia phone on Win 7.8 etc) - and those were now getting a 169.254.xxx.xxx address. I called Verizon, and after some basic troubleshooting, they sent me a replacement Actiontec MI424WR (Rev I) router. Great. Plugged it in, DHCP works - yay! But every 2-3 hours, it reboots on its own. I work from home, so my VOIP calls (skype) gets disconnected, VPN drops - pain in the rear. Called Verizon again, and after basic troubleshooting (reset router, restart router, unplug coax etc), they sent me another MI424WR. Same problem. They then sent a tech over Tech had no idea what was causing that (he saw the router reboot while he was there). He finally managed to find an old Westell Router from a warehouse, and connected that. Things worked good for about 2 weeks. Yesterday, my STB stopped showing TV guide - wasn't getting an IP at all. Roku was also not getting an IP. So, the 2nd Westell Router was not giving out DHCP addresses (but devices on Static IP were working great - no issues). Called Verizon again - they sent a tech over, who replaced the entire ONT box, and moved it to a different location (thinking that it was too close to my smart electricity meter) Tried actiontec - rebooted after 2 hours. Tech came back, and replaced with Westell - no reboots, but no DHCP addresses either. I'm completely stumped, and apparently, so was the tech. He said he'll come back on Tuesday after talking to his specialists. Any suggestions on what might be causing the problem? And how to fix it? My network setup: * ONT to Router - Coax * Verizon Router set up as DHCP server (192.168.1.1) * Router LAN port connected to Dell Powerconnect 2716 (24 port managed switch) - powerconnect is assigned a static IP * Ethernet cables running from powerconnect to individual rooms (I checked each cable using integrated cable test on powerconnect, and also with cable tester) * One Powerconnect Port is connected to Linksys E4200 for wireless connectivity (DHCP disabled - and wireless router is assigned a static IP) * One device on DMZ IP of Verizon Router * Wireless disabled on Verizon Router I have gone to the extent of removing the powerconnect switch entirely from the picture, and running an ethernet cable directly from verizon router to one computer (only) - and even then, the actiontec rebooted within 3 hours (and Westell didn't hand out DHCP addresses)- UGH! I read the forums where earlier revisions of Actiontec had a small NAT table that caused reboots - but I have the Rev I (latest version as of now), and I don't usually have more than 2-3 devices accessing the net at the same time. I have a spare router, and am willing to use it, but I don't know how to set it up to solve these issues. Current problem: If I use Actiontec, DHCP works, but router reboots every 2-3 hours. If I use Westell, DHCP doesn't work (STB problem), but internet connectivity is stable (no reboots) Any help would be really really appreciated! Thanks!
