Hi guys, if this is the wrong forum, please feel free to move, but since it involves a Fios router I thought I would start here.
Here's the setup, latest version of Fios router, seagate free agent media player hard wired to router. Seagate goflex nas hard wired to router. Seagate external hard drive connected to goflex nas via usb.
This setup has been in place for over a year and worked fine until recently.
I am able to play movies, media files, etc. flawlessly from free agent until....
When I use one of my windows 7 pc laptops to access the goflex nas wirelessly while playing a movie. I found this out when I had my screen saver set to photos which are stored on the goflex nas. When the screen saver kicked in the movie would freeze, 10-30 seconds. This also happens when trying to access files and folders.
The only new items we have introuduced into the mix are an ipad and an iphone, both connected wirelessly. I thought perhaps there was some wireless bottlenecking so I changed the channel on the router, didn't help.
Ironically, I can play a movie on the free agent and stream a movie to my ipad, and both play without freezing. It is as soon as a windows pc wirelessly accesses the goflex nas it freezes.
What makes the situation even more complex is if I play a movie from the external hard drive connected the the nas and access the nas wirelessly it is fine. It seems to be playing a movie and accessing wirelessly to the nas that cause the hiccup.
It hasn't done this before and I've done the usual rebooting, replace network cables, switch ports, etc. but it still happens.
Just hoping for some other trouble shooting ideas, I'm out.

Email Issue
So... I have a question
I have had Verizon for internet, phone and TV for several years without a major issue.
Lately I have noticed that when "miss" so emails from a particular individual... (my son's baseball coach).
What is weird is that I will get some of the emails but not others... he uses a yahoo account and they are not going into my spam folder.
He tends to send emails to the team by sending the email to himself and then ccing the team members.
Could that be the issue?
It is very odd.
Additionally when I go to the web mail interface... which I rarely use... There is a dragdown box for default "from" email address under settings...
The email address in there is the correct email address... but I noticed that there is another "from" email address I could select from the dragdown... it is like vz3dr@verizon.net (that is not the email address but it is like that).
This appears on all of my subaccounts and the main account... tho each address is different.
What is that?

Cause for concern? ping time
I'm seeing a constant and significant increase in one of my monitors. It went from low 30's to high 140's and is constant. About a month back the issue would be every day for about 8 hours then it went away. Then it came back a little bit. Now it is gangbusters. Should I be concerned?

[Northeast] Verizon fix something in MA?
I'm in MA, and since Hurricane Sandy, all the MA tests on speedtest.net maxed at 20-30/35 or so (well slower when NYC was flooded after the storm, but you get the point.) Only the Verizon speed test would ever show me 83/35 on tests unless things were congested and I'd max around 20/35 there as well. (I know this isn't a perfect test of things...) Also I'd be hitting a bunch of random slow downs lately as well.
I noticed some odds and ends I download were going much faster than normal this evening. So did some speeds tests, and starting today, all my speedtests show full speed regardless of Boston or NYC or NJ (even during prime time hours.)

I haven't seen stuff like that in months (even in doing tests pretty early in the AM). I also noticed that Ubuntu's updater was *screaming* on updates, and Steam was pulling down 5MB/s for a change versus 500kb/s.
I did change out my NIC this weekend in my firewall, however speedtests right after the swap hadn't changed so I don't think this is related. (I also still have the same IP)
Anyone else? *REALLY* hoping this isn't a fluke.

I have not been able to access to web site at http://web.chjhs.tp.edu.tw/ for many days. Yet, http://www.isup.me/http://web.chjhs.tp.edu.tw/ shows "It's just you. http://web.chjhs.tp.edu.tw is up.". On the other hand, I can access to all other websites I want to.
How about you? Especially if you are in Long Beach, California.

[Northeast] Verizon made my 90 year old Neighbors Day
My neighbor is having Verizon install Fios today, 100 dollars cheaper than cablevision, and cablevision wouldn't lower their price. 198.00 going to about 98 with Verizon.
Anyway the Verizon installer noticed a problem with an electrical outlet. They sent a electrician to fix it free of charge, when the electrician was here, he noticed an issue with her ceiling fan and bedroom light (same room) he also fixed them free of charge.
Verizon officially rocks in my book!

Options for 3 router setup - need help with basic concepts
I am getting a new install today and so dont know yet what FIOS router I will get, but I wanted to ask about the options for a 3 router installation. I have an older linksys G band router running DDWRT, and a new Asus RT-N66U N band, and want to hook both up in various parts of my house where I have cat 6 which feeds off of the FIOS router. I am just learning about networking and not sure I understand "bridge" mode vs other modes.
If I just live lan cable into the 2d or 3d router nothing happens, right? Some software settings in the FIOS router need to be changed, correct?
If someone could help me get started in how to understand this, I would appreciate it. I know there are a hundred posts about various parts of this in the forum but I couldn't find anywhere to understand the steps to figure this out.

Fios MI424 Rev. I Refuses to connect...
I've been going back and forth with this actiontec router for the last couple hours.
Just got fios a couple weeks ago and used this (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r17679150-How-to-make-ActionTec-MI424-WR-a-network-bridge) guide to set it up in bridge mode. Everything has been working fine since then except tv of course. So tonight I realize there's other guides that would allow for tv since I plan on getting it in the future. I reset the router and the problems begin.
I cannot get it to connect to the internet anymore. It's like its in a loop. The broadband connection waits for a DHCP lease then shows it's connected then the WAN PPPoE is connecting which stops and reverts back to the broadband waiting for a lease.
Does anyone know the original network connections config? All I can think of is it's stuck in bridge mode and isn't connecting properly. I assumed a reset would fix that but there's just nothing. Google searching hasn't helped me either.
Edit: It has just connected. I'm not sure why though. Under Network (Home/Office) I unchecked/rechecked ethernet/coax under bridge setting. Not going to tempt fate with it tonight. I'll just try and get my other router going tomorrow.

[Billing] Vacation service
I placed my system on hold for a month and returned early.I put it from 1 - 31 May but reactivated on 29 May. Today I got my bill and they charged me for the entire month because I wasn't gone the full month Billing says I WAS informed orally but I don't think so. If I go to the BBB will it do any good.

Horrible youtube speeds
I'm getting horrible youtube speeds here in the washington dc area (Maryland), i've ran the speed optimizer from fios, but I think it even made things worse.
Some videos barely pass the 60KB/s, some manage to get as max around 300KB/s
I'm on the 50/25 quantum plan and it's really sad that I get those crap speeds.
I'm not even able to watch 480p videos!

Email Password Question
So I routinely change my various password for security reasons...
I logged onto my verizon account today to try to change my email password....
When I tried to do it... after entering the old password and the new one twice and entering 3 forgot password questions I hit "save".
When I did that I got a little box that popped up and said something like "can not change now... please try again later".
Is this a known issue? I am trying to change a sub account email password...

Solved [Southwest] Can't send email
All of a sudden I can't send email. Firefox is saying the smtp server seems to not support encrypted passwords. My setting have not changed. I can receive my mail fine.
It was staring right in the face, but I didn't see it. Somehow 1 character in my login name had changed. Working now.

Router settiongs - IP Change
Thought I'd start a new post with these questions since they are much more specific than my original post asking about the benefits of a secondary network.
I've decided to do it but am wondering where in the menus I can change the IP to 192.168.2.1 I found one spot and changed it but then I logged out of the router and when I went to log back in, it allowed me to do it with 192.168.1.1 Not sure if I am confusing the login URL with the actual network settings but if I change the setting correctly, will it in fact make me go to 192.168.2.1 in order to login to the router?

MI424WR-GEN3I "Performance mode" causes WAP to Discon
On my MI424WR-GEN3I (40.20.1) which I use as a bridge, if I set the wireless mode to performance mode the radio seems to glitch.
Specifically, all connected clients will drop and not be able to reconnect.
I can 'see' the SSID and can see it in inSSIDer, but in router's:
Network Connections -> Wireless Access Point
The 'Status' will change from Connected to Disconnected, and the only way to get it back is to revert to 'compatibility' mode.
In that case, I only get a 54mbps link.
Weird. ANyone else experience this?
p.s. it is used as a bridge, and I have WPA2 AES

Something in Verizon's network self-destruct tonight?
I can barely load a Google page and images are loading in dial-up style(row by row) tonight. A page takes many seconds to load and every 5th page load ends in a timeout. I've tried running trace routes on 2 more computers on the same connection and the results are similar.

Anyone else get the high bandwidth letter?
Just was curious if other than the 3 people (including me) that reported in the other thread if anyone else got the high bandwidth letter and the one that didn't say they talked to you on the phone?
VZ is finally sending these out. I got two. I was told that they weren't able to contact a lot of the people over the phone so they just sent out letters. Curious how many others got it.

Can I use a switch...
Hi all, I have an Actiontec router with a Netgear bridged off of it. I need another port and was wondering if I could just take one of the Netgear ports to a unmanaged switch and be able to tap into it for other computers?
This should just be plug 'n play, right?
