Maintaining verizon email address during home construction

We have to demolish and rebuild our home, and we would like to maintain our verizon.net email addresses and phone number throughout our moves from our current home to temporary housing back to our original property over the course of one year. We also want to transition from our current verizon dsl service to verizon FIOS. With the difficulties we sometimes hear about in porting a verizon.net email address from one account to another, am I best off simply paying for my current phone and dsl line throughout the construction even though the house itself will not exist during that period. Then at the end when the new home is constructed, upgrade the dsl service to FIOS and move back in. Seems wasteful to pay extra money over that period, but maintaining the email address is critically important. Is there any problem maintaining a service that is not actually hooked up to a functioning house for an extended period. Thanks for any insights.
