I'm a long-time user of Verizon DSL and now my coop apt. building has FIOS. I want to know the basic tips before I plan a FIOS installation into my apt. I'm in Manhattan in NYC, on the lower upper West Side. (The CO is on West 73rd Street.)
First, there is Corning fiber optic cable in the ceiling soffit of the hallway outside my apt. That means -- and Vz has confirmed -- that the fiber optic cable will come into my apt., where it will connect to an ONT and be converted into an electronic signal.
Second, the only place where that fiber optic cable can come in is over the front door to my apt. Well, then the cable will be visible as it snakes toward the ONT and router, and I'll have to hire a contractor to bury the cable in the wall so it's not visible. Any ideas or guidelines?
Third, I have copied and pasted below what Vz has proposed so far. Am I getting the right deal? What else might be available?
Fourth, in the Vz estimate below, they wany me to pay $10/month to rent their FIOS Quantum Gateway Router. But when I called back today, they said there would be no charge because they do not charge this to prior DSL customers who are moving over.
Fifth, what am I forgetting to ask here? What are my "unknown unknowns"?
