I've been having issues setting up this new verizon fios G1100 quantum router recently rented from verizon and have a few questions about it. First of all I understand it's automatically protected with a WPS2 passcode from the factory. Although what's the point of such encryption if you can access the routers name and passcode on the verizon website or your TV. So basically, if you know someones email address password or simple passcode or a peice of verizon billing mail gets put in someone elses mailbox someone can obtain this information easily. Basically negating the long WPS2 passcode encryption. Also what's the deal with certain ports being opened by default that are known to be backdoors for malicious activity? For instance 1900, or "4567/tcp open tram Verizon Actiontec Routers have a web server listening to this port. Verizon FiOS uses it for "secure server connection to automatically monitor/upgrade the router firmware when connected to the FiOS network using a MOTIVE server connection on port 4567". The firmware shipped with Verizon's CPE does not allow port 4567 to be blocked easily." Trojans that use this port: File Nail, BackDoor-IW.
I was under the impression that my router wasn't even an Actiontec one anymore (i recently replaced an old actiontec for this one) but instead was manufactured by GreenWave. Also I'd like to add "53 filtered ports, 31 open|filtered ports" but I'm also told by www.speedguide.net that out of 85 ports scanned 84 are filtered and 1 is open showing me the warning i posted above. What this this all means I'm not entirely sure.
When i look in the security logs I see a lot of activity going on, most of which I have no idea what it all means exactly but some things just don't seem right. I've had all my computers, phones, email accounts, anything you can think of recently compromised and I cannot help but think all these security flaws might be the reason. I could go on with many other issues I seem to be having as well but this already long thread would turn into an essay paper.
If I can be directed to some guides and links to properly take control of my fios service and know exactly what's going on I'd greatly appreciate it. I.E. configuring the ports, knowing exacly what everything means and etc. The 200 page pdf doesn't seem to be perfectly clear nore does it cover everything for some reason.
P.S. What's the deal with being constantly assigned IP addresses that are blacklisted and flagged? Not to mention people calling me on spoofed phone numbers (chinese people) telling me I have computer problems...and yeah i just hang up.
