Tellabs MDU 621 ONT problems vs 612 ONT

Back in 2007 we had FIOS intalled in a very large home that is also our office. We thought there was the potential of 10+ STB's so Verizon got a little scared and installed a Tellabs MDU 621 ONT. This type of ONT is for "Multi Dwelling Units", apartment buildings basically. It's got 10 ethernet ports, 10 pots lines etc... As it turns out we only have 6-7 STB's and times have changed. The regular ONT's can handle more now than they used to. So my problem is this. Whenever I really load up our 25/25 ethernet service with traffic (usually bittorrent) the service will basically freeze up at some point. Can be hours, can be days, can be weeks between freeze ups. Basically internet stops working. Phone and TV continues to work. Resetting the router does not clear the problem. The only way I've been able to clear it is to either plug/unplug the fiber until the ONT decides to do a reboot (all the lights come on and it's clear it's doing a total reset), or interrupt the power to the ONT causing a complete reboot. This is more than annoying as it requires disconnecting a power wire coming from the large stand-by batteries that are installed along side the ONT. This can also be dangerous because we are talking quite a few amps. Not something I like to do, but it's the only way to revive the service. Now You'd think I'd just Verizon and say I'm having a problem but I long ago got rid of the actiontec router and use our own checkpoint. I do this for VPN service and I've had a persistent VPN with another location running on FIOS (612 ONT) for years. The other ONT has never locked up so I'm pretty sure it's not my router but I'm sure Verizon will give me a really hard time about non-approved equipment. I'm thinking of asking them to move the Ethernet port from #1 to #10 on the ONT and see if that changes anything, otherwise I'm thinking of asking them to get rid of this MDU ONT and just give me what I have working reliably at my other location (612 or a newer 612a) ONT. This will be a real cab fight. Verizon won't understand why we'd want to do this. They'll just keep telling me I have to use the actiontec. Any other ideas or insights anyone would like to add? My ultimate goal is to raise the FIOS internet speeds to 75/75 at both locations which on paper triples the transfer rate between the two sites. This is important for the type of data that I work with (large). I'm also concerned that this 621 ont might not be rated for these higher speeds because they were not available from FIOS when we first started. It does seem like both the 621 and the 612 are only BPON rated not GPON. I might call my FIOS installer who I've worked with on several projects and see if he can add any insight. Most times the FIOS installers no nothing about the technology but that guy is pretty good. In any even I'd appreciate your input on my situation. Roveer
