Hey Guys,
I have been reading tons of posts on how to replace or bypass the FiOS G1100 with your own router, but there have been a number of suggested ways, most of which have replies that are confusing or contradictory so I am at a loss how to either Bridge or reconfigure the router to ensure that the STB's will continue to work with the Guide, VOD etc to still work. If someone can help me get this to work I will pay via PayPal (provided it doesn't bankrupt me)
I would really appreciate if someone could help me with exactly how I can set up and or reconfigure the G1100 into Bridge mode. We have 10 STB's which all have VOD, Guide etc all connected to the Verizon system via COAX. Right now, the G1100 has the WAN connection coming in and I have the STBs connected via COAX and the WAN from the ONT (I believe) to the WAN connection on the G1100 then from the LAN of the G1100 to the WAN port on the ASUS GT-AX11000. The problem with this is that I can't use the ASUS Router as the primary router which is causing terrible speeds as I have the 1Gig Service but only get 300Mbps instead of 1000Mbps. I am also being forced this way to set the ASUS Router and the LAN devices on the 192.168.50.x net where I really want them on the 192.168.1.x net as all my devices are already configured with static routers to this subnet and I cant seem to access some of them because of this without resetting all the devices network connections which is not an easy task.
With all of the posts I have read on this, each one proposes multiple ways of doing this, with many replies saying they either arent working or having multiple issue. I can't seem to find the definitive guide on how to do this.
I know that the G1100 must have Internet access as the STB's need to connect to Verizon network so the idea of having the ONT being connected to the GT-AX11000 WAN port while the G1100 is connected to LAN port apparently doesn't work from what I have read and keeping the G1100 as the primary having the ONT connected to the G1100 WAN and then the GT-AX11000 connected to the LAN of the G1100 seems to cause me issues because I can't find how to set the G1100 into bridge mode and Verizon tells me this can't be done.
So right now, I have the G1100 connected to the WAN then the LAN to the GT-AX11000 (192.168.50.x) in Air Mesh Router mode with another ASUS Router as the Air Mesh Node which is why I bought the 2 routers as my plan was to switch to using Air Mesh.
If someone could really help simplify the steps needed to allow for the GT-AX11000 as the primary Router while allowing the G1100 to just be used for the VOD and STB's would be a great help. Again, yes I know there are posts on here about this, but there are plenty of replies contradicting the methods I read and I am getting very frustrated because Verizon told me I could set the G1100 to bridge mode but when I called them to ask how to do this, they then tell me just reboot it no config needed, well that just doesn't work and they tell me it can't be done. So now here I am with over $500 in routers to configure for Air Mesh, but without being able to set the G1100 into bridge mode, I am 1. forced off of the 192.168.1.x subnet which also means I can't configure the DDNS on the ASUS Router to enable a few of my devices to be able to be seen from outside my network which I need to do.
Can some one please help clarify what I need to do? Preferably by someone who has this same setup and knows far more about networking then I, Perhaps this can be done using NAT or Static Routes? I really don't know, but I am highly frustrated as I feel like I wasted my money because Verizon swore to me this could be done and we really need the AirMesh technology, and now that I purchased everything, Verizon now tells me this can't be done. and I havent found anyway to make everything work, I either get the network working perfectly but no VOD. no Guide etc. (which everyone bitched at me that they were not working, so now I have that working, but the LAN network isnt on the 1 subnet and my connections are messy but the VOD and Guide now work. My devices that need to be seen publicly now don't work and for some reason my speeds are suffering and I don't know why..
I would literally pay someone to get this working properly and I mean that in all honesty. If someone could help me get this working the way I need it to, I will PayPal someone to help me.
What I need to accomplish.
Public WAN to ASUS GT-AX11000
ASUS GT-AX11000 LAN 192.168.1.x
STB's still having access for the VOD and Guide from the G1100 (must have IP's ranging from 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.110 as currently configured on the G1100)
ASUS GT-AX1100 LAN (192.168.1.x) allowing some devices to connect to the public network so I can use DDNS on my NAS devices outside of my local network
I don't care how we do this, so long as they all work. If someone could provide detailed instructions on how to set the G1100 into bridge mode, and get everything working together, I will definitely sent someone some cash via PayPal..... PM me, and we can talk how much... Please!
PS - I know that the FiOS G1100 also has many of the advanced features locked out but I do have access to the box via SSH, but I don;t know if any of the settings can be changed via the back end or not.
I think I just need to some how bridge the router, but I can't figure out how...
Again, I know this has been discussed, and I have read pretty much every post I can find, but since I must keep the STB's connected via COAX, this means I MUST keep the G1100 in the network some way and configuring the rest should prove not so difficult once I figure out how to get around the G1100.
Thanks
John

[Router] Confused - Replacing the G1100 with own router - Now Hiring!!!

External Splitter
Can anyone suggest if an external splitter next to the Verizon box was installed by Verizon or the previous homeowner's own homebrew concoction? The Verizon tech was checking it yesterday and one of the screw on adapters just broke off. He was supposed to have fixed it, but looking at it this morning, I see there is nothing plugged into the "In" on the splitter...which would seem to be an issue. There is a random coax line not plugged into anything, but also looks like it has a busted connector.
We were attempting to get the CableCard to work yesterday, and apparently the system could "see" it, but they never got it to pair...and it was blamed on my numerous account setup issues I am still suffering through. I'm supposed to keep trying it as they try and work out my account issues.
Today, I tried to setup a set of bonded MoCA connectors to at least get my wired network up and running, and can't get them to link up, hence why I am trying to figure out what is going on with my coax setup. Based on the number of connections, it seems the whole house may be connected to that external splitter, instead of the old (looking) splitter in my basement.
Just wondering if that splitter is a "me" problem, or something I should expect help from Verizon with. At this point, I'm wondering if I should just hire someone to get this stuff fixed/mapped.

OK to Run Over Temp Line with Tractor?
Just got the temporary fiber line installed. It was supposed to go up the driveway and across the yard. The tech decided to run it another direction without asking, after we already agreed where it would go. Because of where it is, it's already getting run over multiple times with a tractor (I have no control over this, part of the line isn't on my property). The permanent line doesn't get installed for two weeks.
Is it ok to run over the temp line multiple times with a tractor? There's some slack in the line, but I saw it being dragged a bit by the tractor. The line definitely moved while the tractor was going over it. Again, I have no control over what the driver of the tractor is doing (it's not on my property). I already said something to him, but he got mad.

Change from triple play to internet only when moving to a new home
I am moving to a new address where it also has FIOS service. I have triple play right now but I want to change to internet only at the new address. I am out of contract.
There doesn't seem to be any option to do this online. Even when I choose to change my service in the Move page, it still requires me to pick TV and phone services.
Do I have to call to get it done? I really hate staying on the phone for hours.

[Router] What''s the overall opinion on Caller ID with a Different Primary
Not trying to beat a dead horse here, looking for a more concrete answer to whether caller ID can be setup when using a Different Primary Router with the FIOS Router behind it, as per various different how-tos...
Some, like this posting - https://nguvu.org/pfsense/verizon/pfsense-verizon/ - say it can be done pretty easily
Others have said the TR_069 specification is needed and must come from the Verizon Router itself, so it wont work on a Different Primary.
I was wondering if the difference in opinions from those that have it working and those that cant get it working could possibly be that those that do have it working spoofed the FIOS Router's MAC Address on their new Primary Router and those that cant get it working did not do that?
In my case, using OpnSense, I did not spoof the MAC Address on my Primary OpnSense router, so everything but Caller ID works. Even entering the proper Port Forwarding Rules and Associated Firewall rules did not do the trick. My Verizon Router is behind the Primary, has a Static IP from DHCP on its WAN, and has a different Subnet configured internally for the STBs.

Outage this morning?
My FIOS has been down for the last few hours. Seems to be most likely related to a BGP route leak currently going on affecting cloudflare and other providers...
I switched my DNS servers over to google (8.8.8.8), which for now has restored connectivity. Am definitely keeping an eye on this one.

Should Equipment Be Unplugged During Thunderstorm?
Just got my FiOS service a few days ago.
In the past, I've had my kitchen phone damaged from severe thunderstorms. I think it happened only twice in 30 years at the same house, but that was before I plugged it into a surge protector. The telephone line part was never plugged into the surge protector, just the phone's power adapter. Since then, I haven't had a problem in 20(?) years. However, sometimes during a nasty storm, I can tell something weird is going on in the kitchen with that phone, but I can't explain what it is though.
Additionally, two months ago, during a regular non-severe thunderstorm, I heard a rumble of thunder and the lightening associated with it fried my internal dialup modem that I was using at the time. The time stamp in the events log matches the time I heard the thunder. I've never had that happen, ever. Sad thing is that it was plugged into an APC surge protector.
I'm not particularly worried about the phone lines during a storm. I think everything would be the same and fiber doesn't conduct electricity, right? But what about the ethernet line? It runs from the outside box (was told it's a junction box as the ONT is inside the house), up into the computer room. There's an ethernet jack where the router is plugged into that. I have a direct connection via ethernet cable to my computer and that's where my concern is.
Should I unplug the ethernet cable from the router when it storms? I may get a surge protector or UPS soon, though I question what these things actually protect. The phone line part was clearly not protected on the APC surge protector, so I don't know about an ethernet line.

Finding potential FIOS availability in VA
To make a long story short, my SO and I are looking to move. We found a new housing development in a perfect location with everything we could ever want except one thing: FIOS.
This is a major sticking point with my SO as he is in IT and frequently works from home (he also will absolutely *not* consider Comcast). My SO and others I have asked have said that Verizon has no plans to expand FIOS, but I can't find the source of that information so I am skeptical.
I have been digging to find information on potential FIOS expansion to that area, which I think is a real possibility considering the massive amount of development that is going on in the area (500+ homes), it's proximity to existing FIOS, and it's position between a business park and a road that will more that likely be heavily developed with businesses.
Outside of the Verizon FIOS availability website (which is *not* useful and keeps trying to get me to buy a plan) are there any good sources for information on Verizon's FIOS plans for the future? I have already tried the county's Board of Supervisors/Economic Development meeting minutes/websites, local business-focused websites, the local newspaper, Googling things like "verizon fiber expansion virginia 2019", I even tried Verizon's quarterly reports (which, to be frank, I couldn't make heads or tails of as it was all investor/financial stuff).
I have found nothing saying they will *not* be expanding FIOS (as my SO says), but have also not found anything saying they *are*. Any suggestions?

[Router] Couple Oddities with Verizon Router setup behind OpnSense Router
In configuring my Verizon Router behind the OpnSense Router, everything is working outside a couple small things, but there are a couple things I noticed on the Verizon Router that I found strange and was hoping someone could assist me as to why...In moving the Verizon Router behind the OpnSense Router, the WAN IP of the Verizon Router has a static IP address in the range of the LAN subnet on the OpnSense and Internally, the Verizon Router has a seperate subnet that hands out DHCP Addresses to the STBs
1. In the Static NAT Table, the 4 old IPs of the STBs (ex 10.10.3.100, 10.10.3.101, 10.10.3.102, 10.10.3.103) are still listed with Public IP of 0.0.0.0/0. Only 1 of the STBs new IP Addresses (192.168.30.103) are listed in the table, with the other 3 (192.168.30.100, 101, 102) not there. Trying to add any of them manually gives an IP Conflict error.
2. If I go to the Main Menu screen of the Verizon Router and see the active connections, all 4 of my STBs are listed with their proper 192.168.30.x IP. Clicking on the info for 3 of them however shows Port Forwarding Services set to None. The third one, the same one listed in the Static NAT Table (192.168.30.103) shows Port Forwarding Services of tr069_003. I know all 4 should each have a tr069_00x in their Port Forwarding Services and I can figure out why the others arent getting it. All the boxes have been powered off and back on mulitple times along with the Verizon ROuter and the settings stay the same...
Any help is greatly appreciated!

[Networking] Port forwarding, conflict with disabled rule ?
Simple setup: G1100 router,
forwarding rule (1):
Incoming: 80 --> 192.168.1.201:8080
Let's say server 192.168.1.201 is going down for maintenance,
so ideally:
rule (1) should be set as disabled
and rule (2) should be activated (to reserve server):
Incoming: 80 --> 192.168.1.202:8080
But, even if rule (1) is disabled - it is NOT possible to and
the second rule (2) for the same port.
(I have to DELETE rule (1), not just temporary disable it).
IMHO, it does not make any sense.
Am I missing something ?

Verizon FIOS + TV + Google Wifi
DSL Community...I could use some assistance. I recently purchased Google Wifi with the intention of replacing my G1100 Verizon FIOS router as the primary with the G1100 setup as only a bridge so that I can take advantage of the Google Wifi Mesh. Seems simple enough...I have reviewed and followed the combination of all the following instructions:
- https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27666920-How-to-Make-Actiontec-MI424WR-Revision-I-Rev-I-a-Network
- https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/Using-your-own-router-with-Verizon-FiOS/td-p/851632

- https://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.1_General_Networking
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work as intended. My first restriction is that I have to use COAX from the ONT. My ONT is on the outside of the house and there is no path to run CAT5/6 from it to the router. My setup is: ONT -> Coax -> G1100 Coax Port -> G1100 LAN Port 1 -> Google Wifi WAN Port --> Google LAN Port --> LinkSys Switch.
I have the G1100 bridged and the Google Wifi is picking up a Public IP from Verizon so that part is working. The challenge I'm having is getting my two STBs to pick up a proper IP through a G1100 LAN Port 4 LinkSys Port 1 connection.
When setting up the bridge on the G1100, should the COAX connection be bridged under the "Network (Home/Office)"? The "Broadband Connection Ethernet/Coax)" is clearly bridged but I can't seem to find a clear answer on the other. What I have observed when it is bridged, is that the STBs and Google Wifi seem to fight for the public IP address. The network will be stable for a little while but eventually one of the STBs will grab the public IP and the wireless network losses Internet connectivity.
If I don't bridge the COAX under "Network (Home/Office)" then the STBs do not get an IP and after 2 days they no longer have Guide data and On-Demand will not work. To fix that, all the instructions talk about adding a LAN-to-LAN connection between the G1100 and primary router. The moment I add that connection, Google Wifi losses its connection to the Internet. It seems like routing gets screwed up and something is trying to grab the Public IP but I can't tell for sure. Google Wifi is setup to use 192.168.1.1 and the G1100 is IP'ed with 192.168.1.10. When I look at the ARP Table on the G1100 it looks like there are two MAC Addresses both with 192.168.1.1 IP Addresses but I have no clue why this would be...
It would make more sense to me from the G1100 WAN to connect to the LinkSys LAN but none of the guides do it that way and in my testing, I get the same behavior as the LAN-to-LAN link.
Sorry for the long post but any assistance/thoughts/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

[Networking] IPv6 working!
I noticed that my Quantum router got an upgrade recently, and now allows IPv6. I was (finally!!) able to get it to work. I logged into the router administration and turned on IPv6.
At this time, I have to set the DNS on my Mac to Google's or CloudFlare's DNS servers to make everything work, since I think Verizon's default DNS servers for FiOS aren't completely ready yet. But when I log onto my router (at 192.168.1.1), it shows public IP addresses of BOTH IPv4 and IPv6 now. I pass all the tests at ipv6-test.com and test.ipv6.com except having a reverse DNS name. I can reach ipv6 only sites.
Finally, no Hurricane Electric tunnel needed.
When I have a chance, I'll check to ensure this doesn't mess up Netflix or HBO NOW.

Ever since I ported my number from Verizon Wireless to Verizon FIOS I do not get Caller ID or Caller Logs on the Set Top Boxes and Caller Logs on the website are also blank.
I figured I'd wait until I replaced the equipment with the FIOS TV One Equipment to see if it started work but it still isn't.
When I run the troubleshooting on the set top box it shows the test (111) 111-1111 caller id like it is supposed to, but still nothing when I get a call.
Seems like it's a problem with the phone and not the set top boxes. I've tried Verizon support, but can't seem to get passed the automatic stuff on the phone and the chat keeps asking me to log in even though I am logged.
