Router help and gigabit connection

Hi all, I am new here an this is my first post. I have a 75/75 internet with trip play bundle and I bought the new G1100 fios router almost 2 years ago, At that time it felt like an upgrades since everything before the new router was on 2.4hz, but now with so many wifi devices, I am not getting the wifi connection in some parts of the house and looking for a solution. My contract is coming up in a few weeks and want to upgrade to gigabit, but also want to make sure I have a good router/ or wifi mesh so that I can take advantage of the speed and have coverage. Currently, the Fios router is in one of the bedrooms upstairs since that room has both a coax and ethernet port in the wall. Also when the technician has installed he said that wifi frequency falls down so its better to have it on the second level. I am not a techie so I started looking at google wifi, orbi and eero 2. but not sure which one will be better for me. I want something that is plug and play, I have read that eero has a good mobile app that lets you control a lot of things, but not sure who it would work with fios router. I also have a old fios router can I use that for now somehow to make it an access point. Any recommendations and can these be used with the fios router and if so how? In terms of gigabit connection, is the move for existing customers still working, i had tried it a couple weeks ago and was working but it was forcing me to get the router which I already have pair for, so not sure how that would work if they ask me to return equipment?

Wireless not working when using VOD, after bridge

Hi all, First and foremost I want to say that this forum has been a tremendous help! I recently bridged my actiontec MR424WR-I to my ASUS RT-AC68U following these directions... http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27666920-How-to-Make-Actiontec-MI424WR-Revision-I-Rev-I-a-Network Everything appeared to be working beautifully until I used the VOD. the guide works, VOD streams fine.. but for some reason all internet connectivity via wireless connection drops as soon as I use VOD. Once I'm done streaming VOD, wireless internet connection picks back up without a hitch... Any suggestions? Thank you for any help in advance!

Unstable MoCa connection, drops connection.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and looking for some help in setting up my Actiontec ECB2200 I just received in the mail. I have Verizon Fios 75/75 and was under the impression that this would be an easy plug-and-play option, but looks like my actiontec isn't holding a good connection. Long story short, I have my Verizon Router/Modem upstairs connected to the wall via Coax. My Xbox is downstairs and I wanted a wired connection, and it is right next to a coax wall connection. Originally the diagram I had was: wall coax-----splitter------one to set top box-----one to MOCA-----ethernet------Xbox. I waited a few minutes and didn't see a blinking light for Ethernet. So I wired it up like so: wall coax---MoCA---one to set top box----ethernet to second router------ethernet----Xbox It worked! I got the green ethernet light, connected up to Xbox Live, had my router downstairs up and running. Beautiful! Then the moment I start playing games online, I randomly get kicked out in the middle of a game or lose connection continuously in any game I play! Is there something I did wrong? Was I supposed to order 2 MoCa adapters (one for downstairs and one that directly connects to my Fios Modem)? Thanks so much for your helpful insight!

Got FiOS Prepaid installed today

I left Verizon 3 years ago after months of continually worsening issues with streaming video from anywhere--SD and HD alike, from Netflix, Amazon, and Crunchyroll (buffering... buffering... never-ending buffering). So, now I'm giving them a chance again since Prepaid is easy to setup (and give up) and cheaper than what I have now. It took the tech about a half hour to get the (10 years) old ONT going (replaced the old BBU/PS with their newer PS), plug in the new (to me anyway--looks new enough) G1100 router, and let the Vz site do its auto-config stuff. There were no other fees on the provisional statement--just Internet so there should be none. We'll see how it goes.

FiOS Network Extender - Gigabit Internet Throughput

I recently upgraded from 150/150 to the Gigabit tier (1024/1024). On an external speed test, I can get almost 900/900 with jumbo packets (4K) enabled on my wired NIC through a Gigabit unmanaged PoE switch, which is connected to my G1100 (Quantum) router. I also have the WCB6200Q (FiOS Network Extender) connected via internal coax wiring (using Verizon's "MOCA 2.0" splitters) upstairs. However, the same speed test maxes out at 450/450 using the same wired setup. Everything I've read says bonded MOCA 2.0 can reach Gigabit speeds. I also read a throughput test/review of the same device that shows upwards of 700/700 Mbps. Has anyone else done any real world tests? Curious if I have a coax noise issue or if I'm just missing something here. Not that I need anything above 450 Mbps... I can run cat6 upstairs, but it's a PITA. Thank you.

[Billing] Switching to Tivo

For those of you who switched from a Verizon Quantum DVR to your own Tivo, what charges should be expected to come off the bill once you return Verizon's STBs? My current bill includes: - FiOS Internet & TV bundle (At the advertised price) - Services: Fios Quantum TV - Enhanced Service $20.00 - Equipment: Rent HD Set-Top Box 2 $20.00 - Tax, Video Franchise Fee $4.33, Regional Sports Network Fee $5.89, Fios TV Broadcast Fee $2.99 and other junk fees Do they remove only the monthly equipment fee for the DVR/STB? Or can I also get rid of that $20 monthly charge for 'Fios Quantum TV - Enhanced Service'? Once I've got my Tivo up and running with the cablecard I picked up, what's the best way to initiate the return process for the Verizon STBs? -- Call? Chat? Use the Verizon Direct forum, or @VerizonSupport twitter?

G1100 restarting and losing all settings except wireless

I have a strange problem that started as of yesterday. I lost all access to devices at a second location and upon checking found that the router restarted and lost everything except the wireless settings. Strangely enough, wireless radio turned on when it was off before but it had my SSID and password. However, my port forwarding, network objects, DNS client and LAN IP address/DHCP settings were all wiped and put back to factory default. I set it back up and again today it did the same exact thing. Fios Gigabit extremely Slow connection.. Need Help

Hey guys I recently upgraded to Fios Gogabit, my speeds wireless never went over 250 DL 300 upload, if I test the router on Verizon page I get perfect speeds, I just ordered a usb/Ethernet to do my wife connection because my MacBook don't have Ethernet, after many tries with a technician he sent a new router which I knew wasn't gonna solve the issue, still if my Ethernet cable works, it will suck that my wifi is very weak, in my apartment looks like I have really bad interference cause from one room to the next wifi really struggle, I tried hard reset from factory settings my router and ont, nothing seems to work, I live in jersey city,NJ, few miles from Manhattan, I have a time capsule router with 5ghz and give me higher speeds that Fios router, Also I have the latest iPhone 7 and speed test on it are the same, I really don't know what to do or what is causing this, I have 150/150 speed before for a year with good speeds but this gigabit seems impossible to go to 300 mb/s The Ethernet cable I'm using is the one provided Cat5E What can I do? I tried for days every possible suggestion here with no luck

[Networking] Gigabit Internet Only w/ Separate Router Help

I am going to setup Fios, internet only, at a rental property so I cannot punch holes in the wall. The place already has an ONT outside that is inactive and it's wired with coax. I imagine when Verizon comes out to do setup, they'll just turn it on and hook it up to the coax outside of the house. My question is, what are my options in terms of using Fios Gigabit with my own router? Is there some MoCa device that I can wire directly to the ONT? Or do I need to use the Quantum Gateway and put it into bridge mode? I am not going to use Verizon TV so I only need internet and I want to use my own router for internet.

Early yesterday morning I purchased ferry tickets on line. The normal process is the company sends the e ticket that contains a barcode. Bottom line is my e ticket email came in around 1 am this morning . The way I got my tickets before going to the ferry is my wife called the ferry company and they send the email to her and she forwarded them to me. She also an "old" Verizon email account. I know this hard given the limited information I provided , but is a Verizon/Aol issue, someting on my email account , the ferry company issue, or something else. Next time I will use my gmail account I would appreciate any insights Thanks T

[Networking] Possible to avoid "3 router method" for remote DVR w/own router?

$

My folks in NJ just got the (near-)gigabit FiOS and it works pretty well. As described elsewhere the stock setup involves cat6 from the ONT to the G1100, which bridges to MoCA and allows access to the DVR and 3 IP-STBs. I'm not a networking professional, but I am a professional software engineer who knows something about networks. With Comcast I had a Linux PC with two NICs set up as a router, a separate AP (or two) and dumb gigE switches throughout the house - no combined devices. The current internet setup is: - cat6 from ONT to the Linux WAN NIC - Internal network works fine, including a 802.11ac AP. No real changes here. Of course, guide/VOD/etc doesn't work like this so I've got: - the G1100 in bridge mode - patch cable from internal LAN to G1100 WAN (port doesn't matter), G1100 does nothing but bridge the LAN to MoCA - static DHCP assignments from my Linux PC to the 4 STBs This is very simple and comes pretty close. Since the STBs are on the same network segment as everything else, I can ping them from my laptop, in-home streaming to a phone works, using the phone app as a remote control etc is all fine. My syslog has happy entries of handing out addresses to all the STBs. Of course you're probably observing that remote DVR won't work like this, and you're right. I've written some iptables rules to forward all the ports (the 63145 and 3500x ports) but because the G1100 isn't handing out DHCP addresses to the STBs and doesn't have the real WAN IP, it's not as simple as it could be. I'm slightly surprised to find out that I can see the list of programs on remote DVR - just that watching them doesn't work. (Is this surprising?I would have thought that the same WAN IP would be used for each. Or does the DVR periodically tattle to a central server and there's no actual incoming connection? There've been a fair few bytes through the iptables forwarding rule for 63145 so something is working.) I already know two ways to get remote DVR working. - Give up and use the G1100 maybe with my own AP. Let it own the WAN IP and do NAT, maybe do other stuff like DMZ or my own AP. - use the slightly insane 3-router method to fake the public IP to the G1100. Other than that everything on my end is good (unless the WAN IP changes, in which case I'm ~screwed) Are there any others? The 3-router method has the serious disadvantage that it takes the STBs off the same network segment, not to mention its general lack of sanity. 1-level NAT is enough, thanks. But I'd really rather retain my own APs and Linux router too. I saw a reference in this thread to intercepting the communication of the Verizon gateway: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21120487-FIOS-TV-Central-website-access-with-Non-AT-Router Based on my understanding, this might be possible: A daemon or set of scripts for impersonating the Verizon router on a standard Linux machine, which talks to Verizon as if it's the official Verizon router. Hands out IPs to the STBs as I currently have it and reports up to Verizon periodically the state of the network - and perhaps speaks whatever subset of TR-069 is necessary for Verizon to do their fiddling. Alternately a way to trick the G1100 into doing all its reporting with the real WAN IP, while keeping the STBs on the same segment. I'd be willing to let the G1100 manage the IPs for the STBs if this would work. Does anything like this exist, even experimentally for someone who likes to get his hands dirty? Or is the 3-router method still the best anyone's figured out?

[ONT] Fios in multi unit building

So my mom lives in a multi unit building arrangement which are one story and the entry for Verizon is on the opposite of a different unit. Original telephone line and Comcast cable were pre run through neighbor's attic into her unit. She currently has Comcast internet/tv/phone and I am having Fios installed to replace Comcast. How will they run the new connection from the opposite side of the attached unit that does not belong to her? Will they try and swipe the Comcast cable line for a moca connection or run new through neighbor's attic? If you look at the pic, the Verizon location is on the side of unit 1. My mom is in unit 2 and there are 4 total units as denoted by the red lines.

Verizon wants to bring Fios to my building via the basement

I own a small mixed-use building — retail business on the first floor, an apartment on the second floor, another apartment on the third floor — in one of the outer boros of New York City. An employee of a sub-contractor for Verizon came by today to say that instead of running fiber to the back of the building from the same poles that the copper is currently strung from (I think), Verizon wants to run fiber from a nearby manhole into the basement from the front of the building. My commercial tenant uses part of the basement for storage (including in a walk-in refrigerator) and I have some various items in the part of the basement reserved for the landlord's use, along with the building's boiler. Verizon's going to make us remove a fair amount of stuff from the basement temporarily in order to run the fiber through it, aren't they? Can I tell them to take a hike?

Thinking of switching to from Cox to Fios, need some tips.

So with Cox's crappy intermittent upload connection quality for livestreaming, I'm seriously considering FIOS' triple play with gigabit internet, it's even cheaper than the 100/10 internet Cox has offered me, but I don't have much time to act since I just entered another contract with Cox (Been a 20+ year customer but they don't care), my main concern is will FIOS have to dig up anything to lay the fiber down into my yard? Their box appears to be right at the pole at the end of the yard. I would like the ability to use my own router if I want but still keep on screen caller ID. So what would I ask for when they setup ONT? And what's the best gigabit switch that will work with their service cause I will need that since I have a group of computers on the other side of the house connected to current cable modem and router on the other side. There's so much metal in the house, wifi is horribly flaky so I never use it unless it's for a phone or tablet, my main computer has been wired under the house since 2000, and I plan on keeping it that way.

[Networking] 3 router take 2 question - Verizon fios setup

Regarding the 3 router setup (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16858) I had a question regarding one of the steps. "On your secondary router, configure the DHCP server to add a static IP address assignment, giving the MAC address of the Actiontec the same IP address it used to have." Can someone help explain this in a little more detail please? I purchased a TP-Link router for my Secondary Router (manual - http://static.tp-link.com/TL-R470T+(UN)_V5_UG_1478834848735z.pdf) and I'm confused on how to configure the DHCP to add a static IP assignment. Do I make the start and end address equal to my public IP? Also, would my gateway in the DHCP settings be the primary router (192.168.1.1) or the IP of the secondary? Im assuming the primary but wanted to confirm. Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

[Networking] Need help setting up G1100 and WCB3000N as bridge only.

Hey all. Fed up with the wireless performance of FiOS hardware I decided to buy a set of 3 TP-link decos which is their mesh networking product. I don't have any set top boxes but I do use Tivo's and some of them use Moca. I can get one of the decos a feed right from the ONT. Another can be connected via Ethernet and a switch. The third one will have to rely on the WCB3000N for connection as it will be too far from the others to pick up a signal. So how can I get the G1100 and the WCB3000N to both act as a pair of Actiontec moca adapters. I don't need them for wifi or routing purposes I'd just like to re-purpose them solely as a way to get connection over cable. Thanks
