[Networking] What's the latest on removing the Actiontec?

I have a Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I with a Asus RT-N66U setup as an AP. The Actiontec isn't bad as far as ISP routers go, but it would be awesome to just get rid of it. My ONT is connected to the Actiontec via Ethernet. I had Verizon switch it 6 months ago. They didn't give me any hassles about it. Now, I know it is possible to just remove the Actiontec but what about MOCA? I do NOT have Ethernet connected to my STBs and do not want to give up any of the DVR functionality or remote access. On the Actiontec I still needed Coax connected to it from the ONT for the MOCA to work. Makes sense, since the ONT is not going to be that bridge. What I would really like is the Ethernet from the ONT to connect to the Asus (set up as a router), and a 3rd party MOCA bridge connected from the ONT Coax and to the LAN switch port on the Asus. This, to my understanding, should get the STBs on the LAN and functions should work, right? This all goes back to Verizon beginning to charge rental fees for the routers. I know this is for new customers but it's only a matter of time before it's me too. It seems jive to me to do this since UNLESS you can bring your own hardware. Thoughts or info on this?
