I have had my ActionTec MI424WR for a long time now. In fact it's a Rev D which I've had probably since 2008 or 2009. I've never tried to use it with MoCA, because I have just had devices on ethernet or wifi, including a couple TiVos (no Verizon STBs that would use MoCA).
However, I'm now trying to set up a TiVo over MoCA because some of the new features aren't supported via Wifi.
I have the new MoCA-enabled TiVo Roamio Pro (Longer story: This one is right next to the router, but I was trying to confirm that the MoCA was working before I order a MoCA adapter for my older TiVo Premier which is upstairs).
So I go onto the Roamio and select "Connect via MoCA", I tell it to use DHCP and no client ID. After several seconds I see the "LAN COax" light on the MI424WR comes on. Seems good. But after trying for a little bit, the TiVo says it cannot connect. Beyond that: the router totally freezes up! I mean, internet doesn't work and I can't even access the 192.168... configuration page internally - it just times out. The router is totally MIA. Even pulling the plug on the router and rebooting it doesn't help.
The only way to 'unfreeze' the MI424 is to either i) pull the coax line (which of course kills the internet access/WAN Coax, but also turns off the LAN Coax light and allows me to get the 192.168 config page, or ii) tell the TiVo to disable MoCA, at which time the LAN Coax light turns off and normal functionality comes back.
Are there any settings missing or something I'm doing wrong?? Why would having my Roamio try to connect over MoCA totally freeze up the MI424? What do I need to do to get internal MoCA networking going?
