[Networking] Wanting to add another router (Help)

I have an actiontec router which Verizon installed in my basement, so the signal is not strong on my first or second floors. I ran an Ethernet cable to my first floor and want to connect it to the Actiontec router and buy a Linksys EA 6900 Smart router and connect it via the Ethernet cable. I am not very tech savvy but wanted to know if this would work, Is there anything special I need to do (On the Actiontec router) Would this be considered a bridge, repeater or access point?
