Question regarding using SOPHOS UTM as Firewall on 150mbit

So yes I am running a SOPHOS UTM as my firewall/UTM. On the old comcast system it wad dead simple....mainly Coax goes to DOCISS Modem, Ethernet cable from DOCISS to UTM WAN and the UTM LAN goes to a switch, walla, done. However with my Verizon FIOS I am seeing that I can't just simply take the Ethernet coming into my house, since at 150mbit it appears that I have two lines going into my Actiontec FIOS router, one is a COAX and the other is an Ethernet cable. So right now I am forced on exposing the Actiontec to the outside while I connect my SOPHOS UTM WAN port to the Actiontec LAN port and then the SOPHOS LAN to my Switch. It's highly convoluted setup that requires two gateways. One gateway for the ACTIONTEC and the second gateway for my UTM. So if a PC has the UTM gateway then it gets UTM filtered traffic, if I set the PC to the ACTIONTEC gateway then it gets unfiltered straight FIOS trafic. However, that still leave the Actiontec exposed. THus, I was wondering is there a way to directly plug my UTM to the FIOS flow? Does my Actiontec require both the COAX and the Ethernet connection in order to work? Or is the COAX just for the TV and the Ethernet is for the Net? When the tech was installing it, he initially just installed the COAX but was not able to handshake so he called the main Verizon Support and they instructed him to also install the ethernet cable connection due to the fact that I ordered the 150mbit package. I do not have access to the main FIOS box downstairs since I live in an apartment complex, so each tenant installs their own FIOS but the direct access to the ONT is restricted.
