Hello,
I have had FiOS since it first came out in 2005, thus I have the earlier BBU. I noticed a few sources including Verizon stating "If you have a backup battery, and do not have voice service through Verizon, or if you do not need your voice service during a power outage, you can disconnect the backup battery." via https://www.verizon.com/support/consumer/battery-backup
However, if I completely disconnect the battery the BBU still beeps. If I hit the silence button, it will start beeping every 24 hours. Even though we do have a home Verizon phone service they are all cordless phones so even if there was a power outtage they would not work. Plus we all use our cell phones religiously.
I am just tired of wasting money on batteries. I even bought a nice Goldtop HG battery recently since the cheap one I bought before that only lasted 1.5 years. This Goldtop one lasted only 2 years, and we hardly have power outages here since the power lines are underground in our area. Yes, I know about the trick about unplugging the BBU for 5 minutes and battery. Then re-connect but battery will start beeping again now within days so it's on it's way out.
I heard there is a method/program to have Verizon replace the ancient BBU one with a newer one that does not require a battery. Is this true? If so, does it cost extra?
Thanks!
