Hi all,
I started out with Fios Internet in New Jersey two years ago with no contract, but a 2-year price agreement for 25/25 for 39.99 per month (no TV or phone - I don't need either). About a year into the service, they upped the plan to 50/50 with no price increase without me asking (I believe this was something done Verizon-wide as an elimination of the 25/25 plan), and it's been like that until about a week ago when the price agreement expired.
Now Verizon has given me a bill for the current month of 75$, which is of course ridiculous. I searched around this forum for tips on getting a better deal, and the consensus seems to be to call in and ask for a better deal (hanging up and trying a different rep if necessary), but people seem to have had significant variation in success.
Should I ask to speak to retention directly, or go through the sales department first? And is it worth it to threaten to cancel? It seems like doing so should make it easier to get a better deal, but if they call my bluff I'd be in trouble. I use my internet heavily for work, VoIP, etc, so I really can't afford interruptions.
If I choose to try changing my plan online through MyVerizon, I appear to be able to get my current plan (the 50/50) for 60$/month, and 25/25 for 50$/month (both with a 2-year contract). I was surprised by the 25/25 option, because I thought Verizon doesn't offer that anymore (they definitely don't for new customers). Does anyone know whether this is a legit option? I don't think I really need the 50/50 - I should be fine with the 25/25.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
