So... As reported here: https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Verizon-Begins-Charging-a-Fee-Just-to-Use-an-Older-Router-137445
Verizon is set to charge a "maintenance" fee to keep your older Actiontec router connected.
I'm one of those customers using the older black and silver Actiontec router, but I bought mine off eBay to avoid rental fee. And I was holding out on getting a newer one until seeing this new fee appear on the bill.
Yesterday, I get an unsolicited package from Verizon. It's a newer black and red Actiontec router. There was a letter included with this package saying the router is complimentary and free of charge. I'm also getting a free speed bump from 50/50 to 75/75 for "being a loyal customer" or whatever that really means.
Sounds like Verizon could be doing a 180 with this maintenance fee for select "loyal" customers.
Anyone else?
