Replace Gateway G1100 with a new one

My FIOS Gateway would not allow wired devices to connect to the Internet - including the TVs. Wireless devices connected fine. Seemed very strange to me. Verizon sent me a new router today, but after removing and reconnecting each Ethernet cable from the router and a switch, the existing one is now working OK. My Router is connected to the ONT with coax. I would like to install the new one, and copy the old one's configuration file to it. The manual says it shouldn't be done. Is that true? I'm trying to avoid a lot of set up work. I have DDNS and more than 20 Internet connected devices - including 3 security cameras, chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, TP-link smart switches and a MagicJack VOIP. If there's no way to do this, I will return the new unused router. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
