FIOS down 5 days now

I'm at a loss and need some advice please. Our fios went down last Tuesday. I'm a network engineer by trade and knew the problem was outside my home network. Tried a chat session and that didn't work. I tired calling in, and since I work during the day I tried calling from work. They wouldn't escalate to a network person without me being home and advised me to factory reset the actiontec and power off the ONT. So Friday morning I decide to power down the ONT. It never came back on. Confirmed power from the BBU and so I call Verizion again. Dead ONT and the first they can send anyone out is today. They miss their first window and we've tried calling them twice today for any sort of status and they can't tell us anything other than there's been a work stoppage. Both myself and my wife on separate occasions. They can't tell us when someone will be out!! This is just unbelievable. So I'm thinking my only choice is to go back to Comcast to get us back working next week. I'm not even sure if the now dead ONT is related to the original problem. Is there a way for me to pick up a new ONT and is install it myself? Should I jump or try to work this through?
