Since Fios was announced I like most people have been dreaming of the day it would be installed in my neighborhood so there could be some actual competition for time warner. Sadly this has not happened yet. The rollout stopped over two years ago about a mile from my home (same zip code) and if I'm to believe recent reports Verizon is no longer expanding.
But recently there have been some slight signs of hope. Verizon was running a new spool of something on many streets nearby my home this fall (not sure if it was fiber but I cant see them running anything else if they are bothering to come out in the first place).
I also have been checking the fios availability on the verizon website for years. Its always said the same message: blah blah blah fios isnt available we will contact you if it becomes available blah blah blah. But when I checked last week I got a new message:
Fios service is available in your neighborhood just not in your building, but we can try and fix that. To request Fios at your building, fill out the information below and we'll tell you when Fios is ready to order. We'll keep you updated along the way as it may take 6-12 months to complete.
I filled out the form and got this followup message:
We'll send you an email shortly. Please activate your request for Fios TV by selecting the link in the email
After you activate your request, we will begin the process to bring Fios TV to your building.
So I guess my question is, is this legitimate? On the one hand Verizon fios is not supposed to be expanding anymore. On the other hand the website seems to think it might be? I know that the website availability checkers are unreliable but something must have changed to get me the new message. I tried to call in and the reps were absolutely clueless. Are there any other signs to look for that might indicate fios availability might be coming? Any thoughts?
Thanks for reading.
