With my contract nearing expiration, but my discounts still good til next year, I've been told not to re-bundle now or I'd lose the discounts. But today, an excellent (wow) VZ rep offered to upgrade my speed from a grandfathered 25/25 to 50/50 and give me a one year discount to offset the Quantum fee (including new router), so my bill wouldn't go up (actually might go down a couple of dollars, since he also found I was being overcharged on "surcharges".) Of course, in one year, my bill would jump a LOT since all the discounts would expire, and the possibility of negotiating is apparently much slimmer once you're on Quantum. For now, it wouldn't be considered a re-bundle, and so would allow me to retain those discounts til they expire in a year and keep my Extreme HD TV package, which I want to do---the Custom TV thing doesn't sound like a good deal for me.
I've heard mixed reviews about Quantum and would like to know if any of your regret going to Quantum? Being on the net as much as I am, I'd probably like the extra speed, and if it saves me a few bucks a month (still iffy) all the better. But folks here have posted about issues with both wireless (which he says is mostly due to people not setting the right frequency to work with their equipment) and with TV (which right now is working great). And most of all, I'm afraid of what happens in a year---will they raise me a huge amount, refusing any discounts (my bill would be through the roof), force me to rent the router, and, even worse, take away my Extreme HD and force me onto Custom? It seems like a no-brainer at first glance--higher speed at the same or less price---but with next year VERY questionable, is it worth the hassle that switching to Quantum warrants? My alternative right now is just sit tight on my slower speed for a year, then try to re-negotiate or move to TWC (ugh, but...) Any advice?
