I currently have Verizon DSL and voice. My apartment building's FIOS installation is almost complete.
I have a few questions:
1. In other posts it has been recommended to enter most of the installation order on line, save the order, and complete the order by speaking to a representative. Can someone provide more details on how this is done and what advantages this procedure has?
2. Verizon sells the Quantum G1100 router for $199. On Amazon I see it for $140 to $150.
Why is there a price difference and how does Amazon get the router?
3. If one does not use one of the Verizon recommended routers, do the Verizon Tech support people
plead ignorance when there is a problem?
4. I have read that the DSL service will be cut off within a week of FIOS installation. Is there a way
to extend this to provide parallel Internet access. I use the Internet connection in my work.
5. My preferred location for the ONT and the router would require routing the fiber optic cable through
two walls over doors. Will the Verizon technician object to this?
6. Since I am only going to get Internet and Voice, I want to use the Ethernet ports on the ONT and
the router. Do I have to specify this in the order to insure that the installation is done this way?
7. In the apartment we have copper wiring from the demarcation to several phone sockets.
What does Verizon have to do so I can connect this to the ONT?
8. In previous years I have been told that I could receive a discount by combining the Verizon bill with
the Verizon Wireless bill. We never combined them. Are there any advantages in combining the FIOS bill with the Verizon Wireless bill?
