To my surprise, I woke up to no internet this morning...TV was out too. Then someone knocked on my door and said they hit our FiOS line. :(
These people didn't work for Verizon and were going around the neighborhood and lowering the main boxes in our yards (that stuck up to high) and hit my line with a shovel where it entered the box.
I told them I wanted Verizon to fix it but they insisted that Verizon would splice it with a "gator box" and that they had the same exact FiOS line as the one they cut. They unplugged the old one (from the main box in the ground) and unplugged the one going into the ONT box on the side of my house.
They ran the new FiOS line (above ground) to the main box in the ground to the ONT box on the side of my house. It worked at first, but was only 60/90 speeds when my internet is 100/100. I tried SpeedTest a few times but it didn't get better.
I compared the FiOS line they installed to the one they hit and it was the EXACT same one (same writing on the side) so I don't know why it wasn't working...
I told them to keep it as is (wire above ground as a temporary fix) until someone could come out and officially fix it. Then about 5 minutes later (as they buried the main box) I had consistent speeds of 104/119.
I showed them that it was all good after a few speed test and they proceeded to trench the FiOS cable underground (4-5 inches) and all was well. I just had a few questions/pictures I wanted to ask and post.
1) It was lightly raining when this occurred and the FiOS Cables in the main ground box, the new FiOS cable to my house, and a few in my ONT box got wet. Could this damage/mess up anything?
2) The Internet is running properly now - 104/119 - is there anything else I need to check for?
3) Does it matter which end of the FiOS Cable is plugged into my ONT side box or the main box in my front yard? The hookups looked the same but I didn't know if there was a specific end that needed to go to the main box or my ONT box.
Any help/feedback/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
