Hello everyone,
The advice I get on here will be my last resort before returning my new ASUS router and buying a Verizon one.
Bottom line: Upon moving in to my new home, I simply unplugged my Verizon-provided Actiontec router from the Cat5e connection in one of the rooms and plugged-in a brand-new ASUS RT-AC3200. No other action taken. It works great, however every 8 - 10 minutes my internet connection drops for 2 - 4 minutes and then returns. WiFi strength is not related to the problem.
Details: I recently built a home in which I only subscribe to Verizon FiOS 50/50 internet - delivered via Ethernet. I didn't want the VZ-supplied router for the perpetual $10/month. I had an Apple wireless router, which I plugged directly into the Cat5e connection in the room. It worked great, however it would exhibit the same issue I've illustrated above. I decided to get a legit wireless router and went out & purchased the ASUS RT-AC3200. It experiences the same problem. Couple of things to note:
1. It *appears* that this only occurs during heavy usage, but not of the Netflix-variety. More like heavy internet browsing (interaction w/ multiple websites simultaneously with >1 computer on the network). This is purely speculation on my part, however, as the time interval *seems* to be fairly consistent.
2. As I've noted, I simply unplugged the VZ router and plugged mine in. I did not do anything special, for example follow these instructions I've found here after-the-fact: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15991
Any input or anything I could try would be very helpful - thanks in advance.
