In under 60 days my second, 2 year contract will be up. I'm currently paying around $180 for Fios Extreme triple play as well as 6 HD boxes. It seems like it will be going up around $15 when I run the online renewal. Last time I was up for the renewal I used the new customer as leverage and was able to keep the service close to what I was paying before. This time around it seems that Verizon has started to ding a customer for everything, $150 for the modem (which has been free for me) $35 for the battery backup (free) and the 6 boxes are now $72 (currently paying $42).
I was reviewing Comcast to compare and it seems like they are giving away the HD boxes now for free. That will slash my bill in almost half as I get all the stations I want with the basic service, plus 75 Mpbs (currently at 35).
I will call as ask but it is unlikely that they are going to be matching this deal. Are there any suggestions I can use to negotiate the renewal? I really do like Verizon as it has generally been more reliable with their internet service over Comcast but paying almost double I'm willing to live with a few disruptions.
