Recently acquired a 2nd MI424 router, free. At the same time, the receiver in my H/T started to go, so am going to replace that. THe candidates have CAT 5 connections, which would mean I could add a direct connection to some equip.
I would like to add the new router as sort of a booster at the H/T site, since it will provide me both CAT 5 and wireless.
I'm in my 80s with a low frustration factor. When I look at the FAQ and elsewhere as to how to do this, my eyes cross. All I want the new router to do is mirror and boost the original router which is at the other end of the house. I get as far as taking the coax which comes out of the wall and put a splitter in it, attaching the current feed to one side and the new router to the other. It isn't clear to me what adjustments I have to make in either router to do that, so I have both a strong wireless signal as well as ethernet available.
If someone could advise as to how to properly name what I am trying to do, and which of the options in the FAQ would be the best one, I would sure appreciate it. This is the FAQ of which I speak: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios - item 3.0
TIA
