[ONT] No IP from ONT after switching from coax

Hi all. Long time lurker, blue moon poster here. I've had FiOS since 2009 and I love it. Always wanting it where I move to. I've always had the coax setup (ONT -> (coax) -> Actiontec MI424WR) up until yesterday. That's when I called them and finally ditched the TV part (which technically I hadn't used in over a year) and left me with just internet. I called last night to switch to use the ethernet port so that I could connect it directly to my smoothwall firewall/router on my own network. Well, what I thought would be a 5 minute job turned out to keep me up until 4am and still has me stumped as of now (2am) the next day. Let me give you some specs to get them out of the way: Network adapters on firewall: Realtek 8110SC (x2) Verizon router: Actiontec MI424WR Verizon ONT: http://s7.postimg.org/rlwny8jvf/photo.jpg (Not mine, but found on here. Same model) I connected a CAT-6 cable directly from the ONT to the firewall when I was talking to the verizon guy and it switched over, but my firewall's ethernet port LED was orange. No IP received. I connected the ONT to my laptop. IP received and internet working just fine. I connected the ONT to my desktop. IP received and internet working fine. I connected it back to the firewall. No IP received. I connected it to the WAN port on the Actiontec. IP received and internet working. I switched to use the cable that was in the wall (CAT-5e) rather than the cable strewn across the floor, I got similar results. But this time, when connected to the firewall, I got no activity on either end and definitely no IP. Every other situation was fine. I tested the cable with a network cable tester and it passed fine. I used it on other devices and it was fine. But for some reason will not get an IP from the ONT but every other device will. My goal is to eliminate the verizon modem/router all together. They are sending me a new one after talking with them since this is 2 generations old and I'm not wanting to pay any rental fees along with other reasons. I know this can be done as I have seen it across the web of people doing it. (Not bridged mode by the way, getting an IP straight from the ONT to their router of choice) What can I try? I just tried unplugging the ONT and disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes as this guy did (who had a near identical issue that I had) http://forums.untangle.com/networking/29437-wan-interface-not-functioning-fios.html I feel as if I'm all out of ideas. Is the ONT broken? If so, why does it work for other PCs/laptops? All my firewall is is a Jetway mini ITX with Smoothwall running on it so its a PC, not any specialized hardware. Do I call Verizon and ask if they could send a tech guy out here to look at it? Would they even be so inclined to help since I wouldn't be using their router hardware? Thanks!
