I currently rent and had my ONT switched over from coax to Ethernet since I only wanted internet service and did not want to rent or buy a router from Verizon. I have been using my own router successfully for a year with this setup.
I just bought a house (closing this coming Monday) and am trying to have my service switched over. I spoke to an on-line representative who told me that I would now need to buy or rent a router from Verizon because the new ONT they would be installing at the house would not support my router. Something about this just doesn't sound right to me. There is already an at the house, though I am not sure of the model type.
A) How likely is it that they need to replace the ONT?
B) Is it true that newer ONT do not support Ethernet-only service and/or only support their own routers?
Or was that representative full of it?
