I've been reviewing all the options on the Verizon FAQ's page (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077) for replacing the ActionTec router with my Airport Extreme router but can't seem to figure out what the best solution is for me.
I used to have my Airport Extreme solely, connected via cat 6 to the ONT and it worked great. At that time, while I was still paying for VZW triple play, I liked DirecTV's service for TV better than the FiOS offerings (interface/hardware mostly). I recently canceled my DirecTV service in favor of preparing for a "cordcutter" future with high hopes for whatever Apple releases (whenever that might be). When I canceled DirecTV, I dug the old VZW set top I had in the closet out and switched my router to the Actiontec so that the guide data would work. I hate this set top box though: it's slow, the interface is terrible and it looks bad.
I also run a internal home NAS (not available externally) for backup and local media storage with Plex. I love this solution because it has enabled me to get rid of BluRay/DVD players completely.
Anyway, I recently purchased a HDHomeRun PRIME and I should be receiving my CableCard in the mail today from Verizon to still allow me to utilize the TV service that I am paying for and I found a way to tie this into my NAS as a DVR that will then work with my Plex setup.
What I'm wondering is if I can get rid of the Actiontec again and go back to my Airport Extreme or do you think I still need it for the Guide data that the HDHomeRun will consume? If you were in my shoes, what option on the FAQ's (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077) page would you use? What about the options for buying a simple LAN-to-MOCA bridge?
Thanks in advance!!
