Hi, I was planning on signing up for FIOS internet (and only internet). I was told by a friend that it's possible to forgo Verizon's supplied router by having a technician activate the ethernet port on the ONT.
Presently I am planning on buying a used MI424WR for ~$60 on Craigslist, asking the tech to activate the ethernet port on the ONT on the day of the installation, and selling the router afterwards. I have several business routers I would much rather use over the provided model, and as I have no TV the coax is useless to me.
My questions are:
Would the tech refuse to install the ONT if I didn't have the Verizon router on the day of the installation?
If so, would it be cheaper/more convenient to rent a router for a month and return it afterwards?
Is there any chance the tech might just flat out refuse to activate the ethernet port on the day of the installation? What should I do in that case?
