I am currently experiencing severely slow UPLOAD speed with my FIOS 75 MB connection. Like many I have the Actiontec Rev1 Router, but have the WiFi transmitter turned off. I use instead the Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11 ac for WiFi in my ranch style house. I have had this sort of arrangement for a couple of years now without a problem. I replaced my ASUS 802.11ac router with the Airport about a month ago, its brand new. For about two weeks now the upload speed tests at no greater than 1 Mbps - usually at half that. (Using Verizon's speed test site) I am 100% Wireless in my house the the Actiontec and Airport are centrally located in the house. My only computer (a Mac Mini) is wireless , we have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads, and three video streaming devices on the WiFi as well. None of the video are operated simultaneously. I have done speed tests with every iDevice and the Mac all with the same results. I called Verizon support for help - and managed to get them to replace the Actiontec, which did not fix the problem. Calling support over three more times only to argue with them when they insist that Verizon guarantees the Speed ONLY ON WIRED networks and not wireless. They insisted that I must test the speed with an ethernet cable directly to the Actiontec then and only then would they make a request up the line to look for infrastructure problems. I maintain that with a well working WifI network the speed test will reflect internet speeds nearly as accurately as a wired connection and with a borrowed laptop I have proven this to be so. I consistently get 75 - 85 Mbps Download speeds and 1 Mbps or less upload speed regardless of what device I use and whether it is wired or wireless. Over the past several days the best I have been able to get from Verizon Support is that they will have to look at it and call me back.
As a retired computer and networking guy I may be old but I am not impaired as far as I can tell. It seems a scam to me to hinge a guaranteed speed to wired only in a wireless world. Further even if the wireless tests were significantly less reliable and subject to more variables, the obvious ability to see a full speed download, but get next to zero on upload already establishes a problem on the WAN side not the LAN whether wireless or not. So I am posting all this here to get the opinion of others regarding this. It seems to me Verizon is taking into account that many of us have no wired equipment and we are being asked to test things that they should be able to do remotely. I know (when I was still working) our company T-1 lines could be remotely tested from Central to the demarc by the service provider. Am I being an old crab or is there something I am missing here besides my mind?
Thanks
