I recently upgraded from Rev D to Rev F Actiontec in order to get WPA2. I also added Chromecast. After the new router or the Chromecast, my wireless laptop would drop the signal for a minute or two and I would have to reconnect to the network. This would happen several times a day. I used Netsurveyer to see what was going and noticed that both the Actiontec and Chromecast were using channel 6. The Wireless Settings of the router suggested using channels 1,6 or 11. Since I could see that several neighbors were using 11, I decided to use Channel 1 in order to have the router and Chromecat on separate channels.
I changed wireless settings to 1 but saw no signal on Netsurveyor and could not connect to the network. I then changed the router to channel 10 but got a warning from the router that channel 10 was not optimized (or some such). I kept it at 10 anyway and it solved the dropping signal problem.
Two questions:
(1) Is channel 1 supposed to work but I have a defective router?
(2) Why the warning on channel 10? So far it works ok with no dropped connections
