Replace Actiontec on a VDSL setup with linksys 54g

Hello! I'm new to this forum so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I am trying to replace the ActionTec wireless router that is given to me with my own personal router (a Linksys 54g with dd-wrt). I however, do not know anything about VDSL setups. I link in an apartment building which would explain the VDSL I believe. I have a D-Link DSL-6300V modem that plugs into the phone outlet on the wall and outputs an ethernet connection. I also have FiOS TV, so I'm not sure if I need to ActionTec or if I can get rid of it completely (which is the goal). I'd like the Linksys to be my main and only router. Is this possible? If so, what steps do I need to take. Thanks!
