Just got FIOS installed, they gave me the Verizon router

I initially wanted to use my own router via Cat5 but this was not possible so I am on coax on their own router modem. The tech said in order to do that they`d need to pull a cat5 cable from the basement up into my apt. Is their router any good? It is the Verizon FIOS Actiontec MI424WR Rev.I. Can I use anything else or am I bound to that?
