I was on a month-to-month double play combo. This February I decided to call and cancel the TV portion of my package. The rep was helpful and tried to get me a better deal. It ended up keeping local TV was only three dollars more a month that internet alone. I said OK that was fine.
What wasn't made clear was that she was getting me a discount by putting me in a two year contract. I believe the verbal agreement was ambiguous about that point, but I can't be sure. When I went to turn in the HD box (which they charged me $10 for, WTF?) for a SD box, the rep at the local store pointed out that I was now under contract. I told him that I didn't want to be on a contract even if it was more expensive. Naturally, he failed to mention that I could have canceled the contract (probably not maliciously).
I'd really love to cancel my service and switch to RCN. The Netflix fiasco (regardless of who is at fault) is driving my wife crazy (happy wife, happy life) and RCN seems to be the way to go for better Netflix peering where I live. Is there anything I can do other than beg and plead with a rep? Is there a way to get the audio of the legal statement that I verbally signed? If I'm stuck, I'm stuck, but I feel a little raw about it.
Thanks in advance.
