I'm moving into a newly constructed house. The builder has run RG6 and Cat 5e for phone and ethernet to a variety of rooms. The phone jacks are already wired, but the coax and Cat5e for ethernet are just unterminated in low voltage boxes in the wall. All of the cables run to a utility room in the basement where they are unterminated (and unlabeled). In addition, there are 2 cat5e cables and an RG6 cable run outside to where the ONT will be placed.
My question is what I should do before Verizon comes for the install. I can put keystones for the RG6 and Cat5e in the rooms where I want that service. In the utility room I can trace the cables and run the cat5e for ethernet into a patch panel and connect the patch panel to an ethernet switch. I can also terminate the RG6 cables in the utility room and connect them to a coax splitter. I have never wired telephone distribution, but I suppose I could do that too.
That's what I *could* do. The question is what I *should* do. What does Verizon include in the Fios installation, and what's the hourly rate for whatever is not included? (I know that Verizon won't supply the ethernet patch panel and switch, but if I provide that to the installer, will he use them?) I have not yet bought a punch block for the telephone cables, but I assume Verizon can supply that.
Many thanks.
