Hello,
I've been a Fios subscriber going on my fifth year now; started with 25/25 but now have the ever so nice 75/35 service. Like most people, Verizon used the MoCA install since I didn't have any cat5e already running to the outside. I've never had a problem with MoCA, as all the coax in my house is done in a "home-run" manner using good quality RG-6; a throwback from my satellite days where I had dual-tuner DVRs in almost every room.
However, recently I ran a cat5e cable out to the shed in my backyard (yes, a shed); and I decided since I had to drill a hole to get the cable in the house; I might as well go ahead and run a second cable to the ONT. I really didn't see the need as I don't think I'm going to go faster any time soon, I largely just liked the idea of having an Ethernet cable going to it.
Before I complete the install on that cable (which amounts to mounting the plug on it); I wanted to find out if there's anything special I need to do besides calling them to activate it. I plan on keeping the Actiontec router and just plugging in to the Ethernet WAN port. I've read that configuration is largely automatic; and that if I pre-hook it up and post in the Direct forum; then the switchover will be rather painless. I'd like to make sure this is the case so I don't have to spend hours trying to figure out why stuff doesn't work. Also, I'm not sure what information will be needed if I post in the direct forum vs calling them; if someone could tell me what to include in my first post there; that'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
